Couldn’t she put her bin back herself

Today around 9am, it was bin day and after the bins were emptied, there was strong breezes.

I was driving out of my road. I had to stop to get a bin that blew onto the road. I just moved the bin to pavement in front of the house - number on bin.

As getting into my car to drive off the woman of the house opened her front door and yelled at me for touching her bin.

Why couldn’t she take the bin in herself? Bins were emptied 1-2 hours before.

What was I supposed to do? Drive over it to damage it and my car?

You can't go around touching others people's bins. She probably thought you were trying to steal it.

Don't be so ridiculous. It's a bin, and OP had just got out of a car.

Honestly.

defrazzled · 03/11/2025 16:28

I'd have starred her dead in the eye and chucked it back in the road. What a massive knobhead.

So what do you suggest she does with the bin in the middle of the road if she's not allowed to touch it?

honeylulu · 03/11/2025 16:31

What were you supposed to do since it was blocking the road? Reverse all the way back since you aren't allowed to touch it? I would have given her a withering look and told her it's a criminal offence to obstruct a public highway. Silly twat.

Are you the neighbour?

Marylou2 · 03/11/2025 16:34

She'll be gossiping about you as a weirdy bin molester on the neighbourhood watch group chat. 😀. I'd pop round with flowers and a written apology.

ComfortFoodCafe · 03/11/2025 16:35

I would of just chucked it back into the road.

Endofyear · 03/11/2025 16:46

Didn't you just tell her that her bin was in the road?!

Cant decide if this is sarcasm

Id have gone back to the bin, looking her dead in the eye and chucked the bin back in the road (behind my car so I could drive off)

No
I live at 60-something. She lived in a single digit number. It’s a cul de sac

Yep, the sort of answer only ever heard on MN.😖

PennywisePoundFoolish · 03/11/2025 17:21

Maybe she's wheelie bin going through a rubbish time

thebluehen · 03/11/2025 17:38

My next door neighbour only gets her bin in the day before the next collection. Leaves it in the middle of a shared access / parking area and drives round it several times a day. I’ve tried putting it outside her back gate (shared access with my property) but it still sits there and then is blocking my back gate. I’ve tried putting it in her parking space so she just parks around it or moves it slightly so that she can park. Anyway, landlord is evicting her shortly. The bin issue is actually the least of the issues.

SeaAndStars · 03/11/2025 17:50

Perhaps her bin is totally minging and she's hoping someone will smash it to smithereens so she can get a free replacement from the council.

Mrstawnyowl · 03/11/2025 17:56

As if you’d want to pinch her smelly old bin anyway.

The bloody bin had blown ONTO THE ROAD!

What kind of a moron would expect drivers to just crash into it or swerve around it? Or tries to defend the twat who owns the bin?

Happyjoe · 03/11/2025 18:01

Yours is a tad strange though - next time take it right to the other end of the street '-)
I would kill for a neighbour who used a bin though! We have a shared alleyway behind the house/garden and she just leaves the rubbish out, sometimes with no bags. It's been torn into over the weeks by rats and foxes, there's food, nappies, all sorts of disgusting stuff. I've cleaned it up twice but had enough now. Tempted to throw it all back into her garden!

So drivers can't move a bin that has blown into the middle of the road? Is this a new law?

I hope you are joking, but unfortunately I don't think you are!

FOJN · 03/11/2025 18:29

Mumsnet gets crazier by the day. Why didn't you just tell her you were moving it out of the road and get on with your day? There is no need to analyse what she could have done or how long it was since the bins were emptied. She was weird, you did a normal thing, end of story.

3678194b · 03/11/2025 19:42

She was obviously waiting for her husband to come home from work to take the bin in. Because it's a man's job! That's why I reckon it was still out.

And yes, I'm female and can manage the wheelie bins alone.
