I think that's unfair. I think they're all OK except for two couples: the former Yorks and the Sussexes. The York daughters, Edward and his family, Anne and her family, and the Waleses are just fine. So are Charles and Camilla. Some of you should read Sally Bedell Smith's incredibly balanced, well-researched, and well-sourced book about Diana, and then follow up with Tina Browne's book. All the below is from them.
Diana had absolutely horrendous mental-health problems - NOT her fault, but sadly untreated, as many were back then. She used to bash Charles about the head when he was praying, her moods were unreal, and her illness nearly drove Charles to despair. He got her mental-health help soon after the honeymoon. He's not as stuffy as you might think, being into gurus and talking to plants, and such. He has a right hippy side.
He says, and all evidence corroborates it, that he did not go back to Camilla until 1986, and the Bedell book says, with sources, that Diana had slept with someone else first.
But Charles never said anything against Diana, and the RF's stance was, she's unwell, so we will not say anything against her. So she won the PR battle. I am not against her at all; there was plenty to admire about her, but it seems she desperately needed medication that we have these days but may not be available back then, plus intensive therapy. 600 phone calls were traced from Oliver Hoare's house to KP. She was really unwell lots of the time, and Charles's friends re-introduced him to Camilla when they feared for his mental state, being trapped in that marriage. I have been married to someone with similar problems, and it feels like being sucked into a dark hole from which there is no way out.
Reading those well-researched books, whose authors were notably not sued by Diana's family, made me see that Charles is not the villain everyone thinks him to be. He made mistakes, including not proposing to Camilla way back when, and allowing himself to be pressured into marrying a young woman he hardly knew, but I think he's OK really. He has loved just one woman his whole life, and to his credit, she wasn't some pretty young thing years younger than him.
