To flash at middle lane huggers?

it really angers me how many people don’t know how to drive on the motorway. Especially the M25.

Why are there so many people who just sit in the middle lane and don’t move over? I don’t want to undertake people. So if I’m being made to slow down by a middle lane hogger I’ll flash at them to move over. More often than not they will move to the outside lane, so they obviously know where they should be?!

I do want to add that I also hate people who weave and undertake but I think they are just aggressive drivers and also if no one hogged the middle lane they wouldn’t be able to!

It absolutely is dangerous in itself. It’s also illegal. Middle lane hoggers cause others to have to change lanes when they would otherwise not have to. Any lane changing adds a potential element of additional risk. Hoggers also cause traffic congestion as people have to slow down or change lanes to have to get past the lane hogger.
Whilst aggression is never, ever justified and people who can’t control their tempers shouldn’t be on the road, neither should people who don’t know the highway code.

You know you’re breaking the Highway Code, committing an offence and can be fined… right? The reason you have to ‘move out all the time’ is because you should only be in the middle lane if you’re overtaking.

I hear you re M25 but if it is between stretches such as J14 (Heathrow) to around J9 Leatherhead - Lane one is constantly changing into a dedicated filter lane for the next junction and I think people find it tedious to keep lane changing, those stretches are 4 lane, was especially bad last few years when J10 was being reworked and the slip road there backed up pretty much all of the time

As are you by flashing your lights to get someone to move out of the way, an action that can also result in a fine.

Wow. Flashing AND beeping someone for their driving speed is scary and aggressive behaviour.

You should only do that to alert other drivers to an imminent hazard, not because you’re pissed off and you want to vent your frustration.

Which lane do you mean they move into once you’ve flashed them? Leftmost (inside) or lane 3/4 on the right (outside)? Them moving to the outside and continuing to be slow would be insane!

I do agree with you this behaviour sucks when you come across it, and that can mean for the whole journey on the m25 😬 but I feel like I just have to put up with it as taking other action like flashing probably makes things worse

I just undertake them I CBA to move over 3 lanes on a quiet motorway with a dick hogging the middle lane.

Driving too slowly in an inappropriate lane because you are only thinking about yourself is a hazard. Inept, dangerous driving.

And if you go to pieces because another driver flashes or beeps then that is only a further indicator that you are an inept driver.

Sorry but if you are either defending hogging the middle lane and/or are a middle lane hogger yourself, you are a shit driver and should not drive on the motorway, full stop. You’re pathetic and should stick to non motorway roads.

So long as you aren't flashing people that are genuinley overtaking but not as quickly as you want.

If someone does this to me I move into the outside lane and keep a steady pace to block the headlight flasher into the middle lane on purpose. Just to piss off the person who has been flashing me. 😁

The 'outside lane' means the fast lane btw. I think you mean they move to the inside lane (i.e. the slowest lane). Counterintuitive I know.

Poll results have blown my mind. Middle-lane hoggers infuriate me… I flash unapologetically sometimes as these people cause so much unnecessary lane jumping and delays…

I note that the OP has failed to answer multiple PP asking why she does not overtake the people in the middle lane.

Or to put it another way she is complaining about people hogging the middle lane through laziness or incompetence when that describes her perfectly.

Ultimately you have to accept the traffic as it is and deal with it rather than getting angry.

middle lane hoggers are APITA, I also hate it when people speed up when you try and over take them, just drive at a constant speed it’s not effing difficult.

Absolutely agree with this.

You decide to stay in the middle lane because you don't like all the overtaking that is necessary in the slower lane.
So you think only of your self, hog the middle lane so YOU don't have to overtake, thus forcing others into the fast lane to do the overtaking you are too inept to do. Dangerous.

How are these people permitted a licence??

everyone know you are not meant to stay in the middle lane, and it should just be for overtaking but the reality is that if you constantly go back to the first lane you get stuck behind slow moving vehicles so you need to constantly go back and forth between the first and second lane for overtaking. It is often difficult to move to the middle lane because it is so busy. So the most efficient way to drive is to stay in the middle lane at the speed limit. If anyone is frustrated at driving at the speed limit they shouldn’t blame the drivers in the middle lane, they should blame the law.

I know, I can't get over the number of people defending what is ultimately dangerous driving.
