Personally I love buying and selling on it

They contacted my DS and he had to pay £350.

He only had to tell them he was selling second hand clothing. If he was selling new or making a profit that’s different

Yes he was making a profit, he has to pay tax on stuff he sells on Facebook and eBay too.

yummyscummymummy01 · 02/11/2025 08:42

Had some great bargains on there, I like getting bundles for my kids. I buy stuff for myself too. I tend to stick to brands I know and can trust. Selling has been a bit hit and miss.

rookiemere · 02/11/2025 08:42

I like it and have been using it to clear my wardrobe of stuff that I feel is too good to donate. I do feel a bit guilty about not giving it to charity , but I am not working at the moment so it’s good to be able to make some money. Unfortunately I now get a page of curated things to buy every time I log in so haven’t actually made much profit.

SwimmingPoolWater · 02/11/2025 08:44

Vinted’s great, I’ve had some lovely bargains on there. Also, join the Idiots of Vinted Facebook group. It really kicks off in there sometimes 😂 Last week an aggrieved buyer and seller were going at it all day, I was agog 😮 😮

I tried to donate last week and was told they had too much!

Screwyoucolin · 02/11/2025 08:53

I only recently started using it to have a clear out and made £300 over one weekend. I priced well though and the brands are popular (Toast, Cos etc) I think a lot of people ask too much for second hand stuff.

Holluschickie · 02/11/2025 08:55

It's true that charity shops these days are crap. Mine used to be so good but now full of Primark and Tesco.

rookiemere · 02/11/2025 08:57

Actually thinking about it what’s crazy is the clothes on Vinted are usually much less than they cost at the charity shops now. I used to go in and browse but as I’m not going to haggle, I don’t generally buy anything in the charity shops these days as far too expensive for second hand.

The limit for which I would sell something at is about £10. The limit that I would buy something at from a new seller would be about £5-10, from a seller with a number of recent 5* reviews up to about £40. For anything over those amounts I would use local FB marketplace to check something out in person or use eBay. So it’s fine up to a certain level that you can risk losing but there are a lot of problems and I personally won’t do higher value things for that reason.

I do this as well. I think of it a bit like gambling. I’ve had I lots of nice bits (great value) so don’t mind the odd dud.

bigchanges1 · 02/11/2025 09:04

I'm currently waiting for Vinted’s decision on the outcome of a pair of trainers I bought as ‘new with tags as didn’t fit seller’, which were sadly very obviously not genuine when I received them.

Really hoping I don’t have to pay the postage to return them and be out of pocket as the seller said they’d take them back if I pay to return them but they wouldn’t cover the postage costs.

I think this may be the last time I use the sites as it’s been hit and miss for the 5 or so bits I’ve bought from there.

Optik · 02/11/2025 09:08

Good for selling cheap clothes but that's it. Would never sell something valuable.
Tried to sell a toy for the first time this week - wrapped it in loads of bubble wrap and it still ended up damaged in transit. Vinted sided with the buyer giving them a full refund saying I didn't package it properly. I've had no response from vinted when I've complained. I'm also suspicious that people can fake damage and make AI photos now to get a refund. It happens too often.

TangyJellyTot · 02/11/2025 09:09

I love it. I’m watching a lady on tiktok trying to pay her mortgage with Vinted sales - very interesting.

I buy and sell on there.

Howlongdon · 02/11/2025 09:13

It’s great for maternity and breastfeeding clothes.

The most annoying thing (that I’ve seen a few other threads about), is how it categorises sizes. A 12 isn’t a standard large and a 10 isn’t a standard medium etc. I think it should separate out the sizes (8/10/12/14 and S/M/L etc).

Wowsersbrowsers · 02/11/2025 09:15

I've had a couple of issues with terrible customer service on higher value items so really wary now. I've noticed a couple of sellers have been selling on eBay too so would always buy through there instead now.

This is particularly true for H&M. Their XL is definitely NOT a 14. I have an XL shirt of theirs which I bought at my largest and which - now I'm around a 14 in most brands - is massive on me but that's the equivalence Vinted's system makes.

armquestion · 02/11/2025 09:58

I've bought and sold for years and found it really good - good customer service, and if it's a higher price I check reviews and photos. Bought a designer bag for 1/3 of the price anywhere else. A friend got a fake item and was refunded and didn't have to send back.

cityanalyst678 · 02/11/2025 12:52

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 22:48

@cityanalyst678 that should be straightforward for a refund as it’s significantly not as described. Assuming that there was no picture of the label showing the size, and that the listing had it as a size 12.

No picture of size - I have sent her one.
The seller has replied that she put the wrong size down. But she also wrote size 12 in the description. If she thinks that’s a 12, she is deluded. It’s enormous on me. Yep - now the hassle of returning it.

PuppyMonkey · 02/11/2025 13:02

I get about 95% of my clothes from there these days. I hate most things that are in style currently in all the shops - wide leg trousers, horrible cropped jumpers, puff sleeved tiered dresses etc - but you can go on Vinted and search for what you’re after and usually something decent comes up. Even if I do see something in a shop I quite like, I always quickly have a search on Vinted first to see if there’s something similar. Saving me a fortune TBF.

I’ve never had any problems apart from one time, the parcel never turned up as it got lost in transit or something and I had to claim a refund, which was pretty easy to do.

Onefortheroad25 · 02/11/2025 13:08

I love it! Slightly addicted if I’m honest.

NinaGeiger · 02/11/2025 13:12

I vowed never to use it again after an appalling customer service experience when my item got lost in the post.

Couldn't communicate with a human, just kept getting bot after bot.

VivienneDelacroix · 02/11/2025 13:16

I only used it for the first time last week and in really disappointed. I bought a wool skirt which was advertised as "very good" condition and it arrived with a very obvious hole that the seller had clearly photographed to avoid.
I was offered a refund (minus postage) and had a week to send it back, but I have been unable to return in the time frame so I'm not left with an unusable item that I paid for.

Redburnett · 02/11/2025 13:19

Mixed experiences, both buying and selling (in most cases trying to sell rather than actually selling). Prices tend to be low, I have had a few bargains, but have also had items described as 'very good condition' with obvious damage or stains. IME not much sells even at low prices, probably not worth the time spent listing.

SushiForMe · 02/11/2025 13:22

I sold for over 1k of kids clothes over the past few years and have used the credit to buy ‘new’ ones. Quite some work involved for the selling aspect, and you should be willing to sell items for a fraction of the price (10-15% from retail price for v good condition branded clothes).
The only flaw is that when you buy and the item is not as described, you are often allow to return but postage is at your cost, and postage is often more expensive than the item itself!

PuppyMonkey · 02/11/2025 13:24

I just sell it on if the item isn’t quite as described or is too small of whatever, can’t be arsed with returns.
