Personally I love buying and selling on it

OP posts:

I ask questions. So many sellers don’t list the fabric and that makes a big difference as to whether the item is worth the price.

Holluschickie · 01/11/2025 21:14

Is it ok to ask sellers questions about length, material etc?

Silverbirchleaf · 01/11/2025 21:15

Rejected some items earlier today because there was only one photo.

Yes, you can ask anything.

Yes I get asked and I ask too.

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 21:16

@Holluschickie yes, sellers should be happy to answer reasonable questions. I’ve been asked about measurements etc and answer promptly. I want to sell the thing, so if someone is interested enough to ask then I will try to help them out.

luckylavender · 01/11/2025 21:17

I think it’s over complicated

Holluschickie · 01/11/2025 21:17

Great, thank you. I will ask in future.

jelllyontheplate · 01/11/2025 21:19

I used to love Vinted. But now there are either people selling tat for far too much, or people offering for too little money for decent/good quality items. I made just over £1k in the last few years but can’t be bothered with it now. People demanding you post things instantly or repeatedly offering ridiculous offers for things that are already priced low at £3-5. It’s not worth my time selling things £1. I had someone leave bad feedback about a, brand new with tags, jumper from Monsoon because the embroidery was gold and copper and they wanted gold and silver. Wild. I do still buy the odd thing but gave up on the selling, far too many entitled idiots.

Holluschickie · 01/11/2025 21:31

I am only going to buy. Selling seems too much trouble.

OnceIn · 01/11/2025 21:35

I’ve bought and sold loads of items and never had an issue. I’ll only sell stuff for a couple of quid and buy the same, so if something does go wrong I’ve only lost £2/£3.

I use it for my retail therapy and only buy if I’ve got funds in the bank of Vinted, so if I want to buy, I have to sell something.

SparklyGlitterballs · 01/11/2025 21:35

I've sold a few things on there but would never list anything of any value. Too many scammers spoiling it now, and there's no protections for sellers. Prefer eBay.

Flipthrfhxsd · 01/11/2025 21:44

It’s ok .

personally I have bought maybe 20 low value items and not had a problem.

however I bought one higher value item, for £80 and had no end of problems. Nearly impossible to talk to a person not ai, currently in the process of doing a charge back through my bank , and just keep receiving threats from Vinted about closing my account if I don’t cancel it 🙄

so from now on low value items only ie up to £10 - money that it won’t be the end of the world if I lose.

also worth noting that they are having ongoing issues paying out at the moment- it’s been going on for about a week…… I wonder if there is more to it?

anyway , I would recommend the Vinted for idiots on fb group if you have it .

lots of advice and updates

I’m addicted. Made about £1500 since April this year.

You probably don't want to shout about that too much. I believe earnings over £1,000 PA from these platforms are now of interest to HMRC.

FlowersFawb · 01/11/2025 21:46

Ĺove it but and sell loads on there. The trick os just to only buy or sell from people with good reviews.

Ilovehighlandcows · 01/11/2025 21:46

I love Vinted!

But, I only sell things for a max of £35 and buy for a max of £50 - although often it's much much less.

Cocolapew · 01/11/2025 21:46

Love it, I only buy, I don't sell anything.
My limit is £20 and I've got some great bargains.

They can be of intrest but you are allowed to sell your old clothes. You could make £10,000 if you wanted as long as you aren’t selling for profit on what you paid for the items. But how would they prove it regardless?

MouseCheese87 · 01/11/2025 21:48

Love it. I've made around £480 since September.

UnsustainableMum · 01/11/2025 21:50

I’ve sold thousands of pounds of my kids old Boden and kids branded clothes over the last couple of years whilst clearing out. No problems at all.

I have noticed recently people are making absolutely ridiculous offers though. It never used to be like that.

Movingtodarkestperu · 01/11/2025 21:53

I started selling clothes and using my balance to buy smaller as id lost 3 stone then I took the plunge and put some of my handmade cards on there. Have sold a few so fingers crossed!!!

Yes, you are allowed to sell your old clothes... however, if you earn over a grand a year whilst doing so, you are now supposed to declare it to the tax man. How would they prove it? Obviously, they might not. Chance you take, I guess... 🤷‍♀️

millymae · 01/11/2025 21:57

I moved over to Vinted after selling on eBay for years. It’s been a real eye opener for me and I don’t know why I resisted for so long. I prefer almost everything about it apart from the sizing catergories and in just over 2 months I’ve made £375 and had no issues at all.
I‘ve restricted my posting options to Royal Mail and Evri - just for my convenience as I have a post office close by that prints labels for both. Despite the criticism it gets on here all but a handful of buyers have chosen the Evri option and every item has arrived on time and without problem.
I only ever list items in a condition that I would be happy to buy myself and always look to see what similar items are selling for before I set my usually slightly lower price. I ignore anyone who asks if I’d sell for less. Some of the offers I’ve received have almost been an insult
Ebay served me well for a long time but when they introduced simple delivery, presumably to copy Vinted, what had previously been a straightforward process no longer was. I did dip my toe in the water again just before I moved to Vinted but when my listings received hardly any views I jumped ship and haven’t looked back.

How would they prove it? Vinted are legally obliged to tell HMRC about all sellers who make over £1k. It’s been in process since January. And if in the unlikely event someone is making £10k per tax year on Vinted they will absolutely be getting a hefty tax bill, because that not just casually selling off your old bits.
