Personally I love buying and selling on it

OP posts:
sheistheslayer · 01/11/2025 22:34

great. Had brand new M&S trousers and jeans for under £8, labels still on
kitted myself out with a whole new work wardrobe

How would they prove it? Vinted are legally obliged to tell HMRC about all sellers who make over £1k. It’s been in process since January. And if in the unlikely event someone is making £10k per tax year on Vinted they will absolutely be getting a hefty tax bill, because that not just casually selling off your old bits.

Selling your old unwanted clothing isn’t trading.that only applies to trading. You can’t pay tax on selling things you’ve already paid tax on. Unless you were selling for profit.

pteromum · 01/11/2025 22:39

I love it. But I wish you could narrow the filters more.

so say I want
summer dresses age 6 and age 4

I can filter that. But not from same seller.

so then I can spend ages checking is anyone selling both sizes, to then save on postage and faff.

im very rural though so it’s a drive to collect on top of the postage.

I just often think of the 999 results many of these will be selling both sizes. How do I filter to that ?

cityanalyst678 · 01/11/2025 22:45

Opened a parcel today. I bought a brand new Cos skirt…. They described it as a size 12, but it’s a 16.
i am gutted as I was so happy to have purchased this. Waiting for the response from the seller….

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 22:48

@cityanalyst678 that should be straightforward for a refund as it’s significantly not as described. Assuming that there was no picture of the label showing the size, and that the listing had it as a size 12.

Vaninees · 01/11/2025 22:51

Where I live Evri is abysmal and totally unreliable. Vinted has zero customer service. So, for me it’s a bit of a lottery.

PlaceIntheClouds · 01/11/2025 22:51

Generally it's faster moving than Ebay which is great for selling although prices you get are lower.

Be careful when buying through because some peoples definition of 'very good' condition is rather different to mine.

NannyOggsScones · 01/11/2025 22:54

I love it - never bought a thing but sell lots. I go through the family’s wardrobes and have a blitz every few months. Use what I earn as spends when we are on holiday. Never had a problem apart from one parcel that was lost. Vinted refunded the buyer and paid me so it was ok in the end.

DarkEyedSailor · 01/11/2025 22:54

I love it. Most of my daughter's and my clothes are from Vinted. And my shoes.
And my costume jewellery, and books, and many other things.

HRTQueen · 01/11/2025 22:58

I love it have bought some realy nice clothes/shoes/boots and bags and all in very good condition or new

recently lost a lot of weight and bought most my new wardrobe from vinted

a few things I haven’t liked in and have been given to charity as I know I will never get round to putting them on Vinted

Zempy · 02/11/2025 07:17

Jumpingthruhoops · 01/11/2025 21:45

You probably don't want to shout about that too much. I believe earnings over £1,000 PA from these platforms are now of interest to HMRC.

Yeah my DD regularly makes more than that and has never been contacted.

If I need to pay tax on it then of course I will.

Viviennemary · 02/11/2025 07:25

Never used it. I just use Ebay.

Peccary · 02/11/2025 07:52

My favourite use for it is getting bigger sizer versions of things daughter has grown out of but is attached to. Also managed to kit us out for an Arctic holiday this year from there. So far very positive, only issue is auto cancelation as seller listed the item a while ago and doesn't send but am now wise to that.

I do have a pile of stuff to sell when I can be bothered

GiveMeWordGames · 02/11/2025 07:54

I've only just started using it since losing a load of weight on MJ. Mostly it's been great and I've got some amazing bargains. I stick to New with or without tags. The only time I didn't, the "very good, long size 16" jeans I bought had clearly been through a tumble dryer once or twice. They were intended as a very cheap stepping stone to a lower size so no big deal.

I tried an Evri locker ONCE and never again. My gloves just went round in circles for two weeks as there was no availability, allegedly. Anyway I ranted to Evri and got them delivered to my home. Seller was lovely, we bonded over the idiocy. I stick to home delivery now.

Only crap seller I've had so far never sent the thing, even though I agreed an extension. I was a bit gutted, just because they were a lovely bargainous new pair of shoes from my favourite brand. Automatic refund on its way.

Cannot be arsed to sell, though.

Smittenkitchen · 02/11/2025 08:08

I have used it a lot for buying and selling and it's been great for my fluctuating size as I had DC, kids clothes and also after I had a seasonal colour analysis, selling a lot of my old clothes which weren't in my palette and replacing with items which are.
There are disappointments at times when buying, things that are worse conditions than they appeared/were advertised, things not fitting but there are certainly more successes than failures. I've had very few problems when selling.
For me a huge motivation is to reduce the impact on the environment of buying new clothes.

Holluschickie · 02/11/2025 08:10

As a newbie, how do you know new with tags or new without tags are genuine? They could just tie on an old tag.

Stinksmum · 02/11/2025 08:19

I used to love it, but lately it's pissing me off. For instance, I bought a pair of boots 3 days ago. They've been listed for 3 months. The seller hasn't even "been seen" for 4 days so the sale will probably be cancelled. Last week another sale was automatically cancelled as the item wasn't posted. If they haven't got it any more just let me know and delete the listing. That way I can look for something else.

I’ve sold thousands of pounds of my kids old Boden and kids branded clothes over the last couple of years whilst clearing out. No problems at all.

I have noticed recently people are making absolutely ridiculous offers though. It never used to be like that.

I love it and buy and sell loads of kids clothes. I’ve noticed the same thing, though. Sometimes I think it’s just people being clueless about the brands but actually I think some are just being ridiculous. I’ve also noticed a lot more people listing items as new then putting in comments ‘only worn for a wedding’ or ‘worn once or twice’. I may be being petty but I don’t buy even if I want it when they do this - if it’s been worn then it’s not new!

Yes there are some sellers that forget. I asked a question last week on the size of a bag. Seller didn’t respond and I ended up buying another bag from a different seller. The first seller responded a week later. Lost sale.

This sounds exactly like my useless ankle boot seller.

FastTurtle · 02/11/2025 08:32

It’s not for me, I’ve bought 6 items, 2 were nice and the otheres not quite right. I’ve decided I’m better off buying clothes that I can try on first.

Haven’t had any that aren’t obviously new. The new with tags clothes look brand new and the tags need to be cut off. I think there are a lot of people out there that buy and never wear.

Oh. I find it strange that people are selling huge bundles of clothes. I have maybe one unworn thing in my closet but I buy very little.
Today, am annoyed by sellers not listing material of the coats.

Oh I’ve never bought from someone selling bundles of clothes. Usually the items I search for are sold by sellers like me . You can view their items and picture and reviews.
