Don't boys get enough bad press anyway?

Why can't we have ones that say 'hero', or (for the babies) 'sweetheart'.... instead we get numskull, here comes trouble and suchlike

FGS - yuck!

i thought the "little terror"/"cheeky monkey" ones were silly enough

RubySlippers · 06/06/2008 13:33

i really struggle to buy DS's clothes as i don't want him covered in slogans

SoupKitchen · 06/06/2008 13:34

Yes I loathe those "I'm badly behaved" - type t-shirts for boys, they make me absolutely fume. I just can't believe it is so widely accepted to label tiny boys as trouble and think it's just a jolly joke. Then we all wring our hands over gangs and teenage delinquents and blame THEM when their t-shirts have been telling them and their parents since they were babies that they are trouble. I mean obviously t-shirts ae not solely responsible for crime, but what a dreadful message to a child. Meanwhile the girls' ones basically say "Focus on your looks and femininity above all else."

However this reminds me of my friend doing a double-take when she saw a women's t-shirt in the window of Next. It actually said "Go on, spoil me" but it had a crease in it and so she saw "Go on, soil me"

I bet I win on outrageous slogans- "My parents shake me"
I spent some time trying to think of another connotation, but could find none.

scorpio1 · 06/06/2008 13:47
Blush
mustsleep · 06/06/2008 13:48

are the ones saying "Bone Idol" acceptable then? or is it all slogans

tbh i think that there is a bug difference between that and a label declaring your child is a bitch or a pimp though

TsarChasm · 06/06/2008 13:48

I hate hate this And what makes it worse is that it's laughing at the children not even with them because they don't understand (thankfully or should that be hopefully) what some of it means.

slogan t shirts are very tacky, also hate those smug ones like "my mummy is a yummy mummy" or "made with 100% love"...yuk!

Botbot · 06/06/2008 13:54

Hear hear, snowleopard. My dd came home from nursery in someone else's T-shirt the other day. It was pink and sparkly and had said 'Biggest heartbreaker in town' on it. I was not happy.

posieparker · 06/06/2008 13:55

I saw a girl of about 8 with a top that says 'if you think I'm a bitch you should see my mother'.
Awful awful awful, next is pretty grim at best.

crokky · 06/06/2008 13:55

I hate these T shirts, but I KNOW who buys them! My stepmother buys them as gifts for my DS. Wear once during visit by giver, then send to charity shop!

justkeepswimming · 06/06/2008 13:56

oh dh and i so hate these kind of t-shirts!
agree it seems to send a negative message about the child when they are only tiny!

mil insisted on a getting a 'priceless' one for ds1 which at least was a positive message but we still didn't like it. he wore it once then oh dear it was too small

as for the shaking one, wtf??

ll - will browse that site too thanks.

cheesesarnie · 06/06/2008 14:00

i hate them.especially the ones for boys.do all childrens designers/retailers think boys are horrid/mean/fighters/silly?if its true(which imo it is) that if you label a child(naughty etc) they become just that because they feel they must live up to the title.-then what on earth are these tshirts going to do.

HappyNewYearFeet06 · 06/06/2008 16:00

I agree that alot of slogan tee's are awful but did buy dd a boys one from Next the other day cos it said 'My Daddy is Mr Lazy' on the front and a picture of Mr Lazy from the Mr Men books.

I thought it was soooo true I couldn't not buy it. Tee Hee!!

Flibbertyjibbet · 06/06/2008 16:03

I also am fed up of slogan t shirts for boys.
So I made my own for ds1 to attend his little friends party in last week.
Marker pen and white t shirt ..... it said

'Lock up your daughters'

Ha ha everyone loved it.

Hatrick those are just bleurghghghghgh

MamaG · 06/06/2008 16:07

The only ones I would EVER consider are

"big brother" "big sister" when a baby is born, to make the older child proud

PeachyWontLieToYou · 06/06/2008 16:10

we is making t-shirts for the older two as a rotest- we decided on gentleman in training for ds1, and manners maketh me for ds2 - ds3 is gewtting ray of sunshine

at least it'll be positive for a change!
