Why does all children clothing have Stitch on?

Bex071509 · 31/10/2025 21:47

Went shopping today with my 13 year old (petite girl, so still in older child section).
Why on earth is Disney’s Stitch on so much stuff in so many stores.
We found Stitch clothing in Zara, H&M & Primark. But I’m sure it’s probably also on clothing in other stores.
AIBU to not understand the choke hold Stitch currently has on the child clothing market? I truly don’t know many children/teenager who even enjoy the movies.

Why is anything currently in trend?
Bows are in trend at the minute. Loads of clothes with bows on.
Or replace with anything else that's on trend.
And yes my child liked the movie

purpleme12 · 01/11/2025 02:06

And yes mine is 12
She's got two stitch t-shirts
And a stitch tracksuit on order
So yes she wears them and likes them

The live action movie but also because stitch is very very popular in Japan so presumably the china churns our the stitch stuff for their marker and then flogs anything left over to the UK

Nice just so story, except there’s none of this in shops in China. We’re all about Cinnamaroll, Kuromi, and Ultra Man at the moment. Oh and also Pingu. 🤪 Pingu is enormous in China rn. The only disney IPs big over here are Judy Hopps and bizarrely, Lotso Bear.

Do your children love the movie? I am very curious as I haven’t heard of many/any children enjoying the movie.

Strange because I only knew kids who adore the movie and the character! Pretty sure he’s the most poprular at Disney with a plus 3 hour queue

Lucianno · 01/11/2025 02:18

Barely any of the 6 year olds in DS's class have actually seen the movie but they all have the clothes the cuddly toys the accessories etc. It's weird. I heard it was a deliberate marketing plan from Primark - but how true that is and why they did it I don't know, because I think the craze has been around quite a lot longer than the live action film even came out.

And there's loads of live action films recently but none of them are causing this stir.

Yeah they do. They aren’t obsessed with it but enjoyed the original and were excited to see the new release. They mainly think stitch is funny, cheeky and cute

HollyGolightly4 · 01/11/2025 05:26

I noticed it all over adult clothing too- grim!

Yamamm · 01/11/2025 05:32

Had the same thought when I was in Primark this week!
Plus I was there to replace my adult daughter’s animal onesie that she got from Primark 10 years ago and had worn to death. I thought they would have a few but they only had one. A Ratatouille rat. Why? I quite liked it but it had ratatouille badges all over it so left it. Hasn’t that been out for about 15 years? I just wanted a bear or dog or something.

Pingu? That’s very random lol

Yes, I don't know how it became so popular. My daughter never liked the initial film and we never bothered watching the live action one this year despite stitch being popular amongst her peers.

Though don't even get me started on boys clothes - drab colours when little, mostly dinosaur themed, and then when you reach 8 it's all gaming (which my son at that age wasn't aware of).

RhubarbCrumbs · 01/11/2025 06:57

My 10-year old niece wears stitch clothing constantly and absolutely loves the film! Has been this way for around 3 years so far.

At least it makes gift buying easy 😂

bookworm14 · 01/11/2025 07:04

My 10 year old loves Stitch and bought a Stitch bag when we were at Disney recently. He’s been massively popular with kids and tweens (particularly girls) for years, even before the live action film. I think they just think he’s cute! DD did also watch and enjoy the film though.

Yes, dinosaurs dominate with some cars and space themes. It is a bit depressing.

HollyGolightly4 · 01/11/2025 08:59

There seems to have been a massive increase in Disney themes. I know Primark has had it for a few years, but I was in Selfridge's yesterday - so much Disney merchandise (albeit fewer clothes and more teddies, ornaments etc). It was shockingly tacky though, as in didn't look genuine.

LookAtMeWithStarryEyes · 01/11/2025 09:04

There are obviously clothes with it on but Tbf, most clothes don’t have it on, so it’s not like it’s hard to find stuff without it.

Bananaramad · 02/11/2025 08:33

My neices aged 4 + 3 are obsessed, bought them patent boots in penny's (primark) last month. 2 very happy girls

Figgygal · 02/11/2025 08:36

It's been a common theme on things for years its longevity has surprised me as the original movie was pretty rubbish.
Definitely everywhere now as is stranger things which is odd when in the kids range as it's pretty brutal

GehenSieweiter · 02/11/2025 08:38

I adore Stitch, you all leave him alone.

taleforthetimebeing · 02/11/2025 08:38

I think lilo and stitch have had a choke hold at primark for a few years now. I don’t understand it. I think they even have adult clothes. It is a bit confusing.

Moglet4 · 02/11/2025 08:39

Probably because the live action came out this year

My 8 yo niece did love the film and have clothes with Stitch.
I remember it was the same few year ago then our youngst was younger. She had Stitch school bag.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 02/11/2025 08:40

Live action remake this year, lots have access to the old movies on Disney plus. My nearly 11yo loves it, and her classmates do too. She's getting a onesie and slippers for her birthday.

It was a brilliant movie, good overall message - none of us are perfect, we're all just trying our best, and families (not necessarily biological) look out for and love each other.

Is it the movie they love, including teens? Or just the merchandise?
Just very interested in knowing if this merchandise push is a huge marketing spin & people are buying into the stitch stuff without loving the movie?

interesting to know teens wear the hoodies near you as well.

My kids ages 4 and 5 love Stitch merchandise and it has been requested for Christmas but they’ve never seen the movies. My 5 year old tells me that the Stitch Labubu is one of the rarest Labubus. I have no idea what that even means but maybe this Labubu stuff is also pushing up sales and interest in Stitch toys
