Would you go to Canada for a week during child's GCSE exams?

DH's friend lives in Canada. He is getting married next June and has invited me and DH. We have 4 kids, ages will be 19, 16, 14 and 6.

I don't know this friend well at all, met him once at a party and barely said two words to him so I'm not too fussed if I miss the wedding but I would love to go to Canada.

My 16yo would be in the middle of her GCSEs and so I'd told DH I don't think I can leave her during such a stressful time, our youngest DD has also never been left for more than one night.

He says they'll be fine and I should go, they'd be looked after by grandparents and eldest DD. We don't usually have the opportunity for long haul holidays. Would you go?

Mine did hers this year.
not a hope in hell would I go.
@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing is spot on. You just have to keep things ticking along at home whilst,
being ignored one day, have your ear chewed off the next and then back to being ignored the day after.
its a rollercoaster!

No.
A long time ago now but due to family abroad going through a martial break-up, my mother went to the USA for 3 weeks, during my ‘0’ levels, leaving me to support my dad running the family business and also doing all the cooking, cleaning and looking after 2 dogs.
I never completely forgave her

No. I just wouldn't feel ok. I was let doen very badly by my parents. I will not repeat that. If something important is happening for my children, it is important to me.

Can you not visit all as a family another time?

Marital, not martial of course!

If the children will be with their grandparents, and the grandparents are happy to look after them, then I can’t see a problem in going. I don’t see what difference it makes if your daughter will be doing her GCSEs if she’s got adults looking after her.

I can see a difference/ it’s the first set of major exams that a child will take

exams that can affect the child’s future

when having mum around matters because it’s new and scary and hard and important
