Oddly, I cannot seem to relax enough to fart when around others but when I leave work I get in my car and suddenly there is loads of trapped air coming out with ease. Is this normal? I'm not purposely holding it in when around others, I genuinely don't feel the need but then when alone I can trump away.

if having minimum self-respect and standards is being "Hyacinth Bucket", I take that 😂

nothing worst than crude people "telling everything like it is" and sharing their bodily function. Grim.

Honestly, the absolute hysteria you lot have around those who are more open with their loved ones is quite deranged. I mean, I don’t care what you choose to do and don’t think it reflects on you as a person. You on the other hand are determined to label others as crude and having no self respect. It’s really quite odd.

SwingTheMonkey · 29/10/2025 23:00

Of course you’ve farted in your sleep. Do you really think you can control it while you’re unconscious?!

don't call people "fucking Hyacinth Bucket" and hysterical and then complain they reply 😉

Wingedharpy · 29/10/2025 23:07

I have staff that do that sort of thing for me.

DoolallyDrifter · 29/10/2025 23:08

Ex cabin crew ...something about the cabin pressure builds alot of gas. I always held them in except for when I had a vile annoying rude entitled pax. Then we would share the seat number and let them rip beside them whilst carrying out cabin service. Engine noise blocks any fart noises. Nastier the pax hopefully smellier the fart.

Oh I don’t think I complained that you replied did I? Reading comprehension is your friend. I said that the extreme hysteria people like you exhibited to those who are more ‘free’ with things like that (saying they aren’t decent people etc) makes you sound like Hyacinth Bucket. All of the ridiculous name calling comes from your side of the camp.

Exactly. Call me Hy.

You really wonder how some of these people were raised. To seem proud of being nasty and uncouth.

You’re just proving my point. Nobody is ‘nasty or uncouth’. Just different to you.

As I said, all the nastiness comes from your side.

Nonsense.

No doubt the people exposed to the shitting and flatulence don’t think it’s quite as amusing as the, err, “source” seems to believe it is.

Look, whatever you want to believe. You just look a bit silly. Other households work differently to yours and that’s ok. It doesn’t make anyone uncouth, undignified or whatever insult you choose to sling. Some people are happy farting in front of family, some aren’t. There’s no right or wrong, despite your attitude.

Good job you don't come to my Pilates class

Kids generally find farts funny. Which is why my kid was so bewildered when his friend’s car fart went unmentioned. My child has 3 siblings and car farts attract lots of attention.

Do you do the sly look over your shoulder first to check there’s nobody behind? That’s what I do 😂

And take an ear pod out to monitor the volume of emittance 🤣 If the mood called for it, you could toot to the rhythm of a tune? Tears For Fears from the 80s is a fave "Shout shout, let it all out" 🤭

Married many years I would never fart infront of husband or anyone else and I don’t particularly want to breathe in what’s coming out of another persons body. Once had a dog with no manners who farted constantly. It was gross 🤢

SingtotheCat · 30/10/2025 08:31

lowdownuphigh · 29/10/2025 21:48

What I meant really is that I don't get the urge or need to fart unless I'm alone. I can be at work for 8 plus hours with no issues but as soon as I drive away from the carpark it's like I've opened a bottle as they fire out! I'm not consciously holding them in so maybe it's subconsciously that I do it!

Yes, I am like a deflating hovercraft in the car coming home from work.

Only if they are raised to find coarse or scatological things “funny.”

No, they get it from their friends too.

There really isn’t anything wrong with finding ‘coarse’ things funny.

I guess I’m just not a prude who pretends that they don’t have a working digestive system

@HeavenInMyHeart

So according to you if you don’t laugh at someone farting, you’re a “liar”

And If you don’t broadcast family that you are not just going to the toilet but also that you’re doing a poo or changing your tampon - then you’re a “prude”

I imagine your home being a smell judgey place to be!

And families that don't do it are not 'prudes' or denying basic bodily functions, as stated in PP. All families work differently and have different ways of interacting. What I don't get is why everybody has said they wouldn't at work if they could help it, but then half say no problem at home in front of their partner. If you don't think it is acceptable in front of a colleague why is it in front of your partner.

platinumanddiamonds · 01/11/2025 10:23

OMG we are currently on holiday. Last night my husband had mussels for dinner. I had to. Sleep with a spray deodorant next to me. Seemingly it’s a high sulphur food. He was minging! due to smelly wind. He’s threatening to have them again. I’ve told him he’ll sleep in the balcony if he does. Yuk!

There’s lots of things I’d do in front of my partner but not in front of work colleagues or strangers!

Exactly.

No one wants to smell the contents of one's alimentary tract, least of all the person who hopes to be sexually aroused by one.

It always amazes me when people do gross things around their "nearest and dearest" but control themselves in front of others. I would expect at least the same amount of respect from family as I get from Jane in accounts or the postman.
