Im being silly about buying period pants

I think I want to buy new period pants, I bought 4 Modibodi pairs but then I shrunk them/got fatter and then I bought some from m&s that were so uncomfortable I threw them in the bin. I looked at buying more Modibodi ones but theyre at least 15 pounds each so two pairs a day (which i think is what I'd wear?) for my 4 day period is going to cost £120. £120 to spend just on pants seems nuts. I dont want to have to remember to wash them during my period, I know what I'm like I wont remember.

I don’t think it’s silly. It seems like a lot of faff to me.

I like using them (as much as I like using any period products) I dont like pads, tampons are okay but sometimes uncomfortable, dont fancy even attempting a moon cup as that does seem like a faff with all the washing etc

Could you use a combination of period pants with washable pads? That's what I tend to do - it halves the number of pants you have to buy. I put a pad in the pants in the morning, then take it out at lunchtime/afternoon and then use the pants. I don't know if Modibodi do pads, but I use the Wuka ones which are great.

Screenager · 28/10/2025 17:39

Have you considered a mooncup?

I’ve bought dd12 three pairs of modibodi for when she starts her period… a pair lives discreetly in her school bag. As they seem like they be easier or less embarrassing for her if she starts in school. But once she’s started she can use a combo of those and pads. You can buy paper pads now, which are better environmentally

StrumpersPlunkett · 28/10/2025 17:39

I have modi body ones, I am fortunate in that my period is rarely more than 3 days. Over time I have bought when they're on offer so I have 6 pairs, 3 night time and 3 day time.
Would a compromise be doing a mix of old and new or M&S and Modibody?

LittleSoo · 28/10/2025 17:42

I use the M&S ones and like a previous commented, I use a pad during the day then take it off for the afternoon. I'm lucky thought that I only have 2 heavy days and then 2 really light days and I WFH so I can time it to wash and dry pants and not need to buy a lot of pairs.

Brightbluesomething · 28/10/2025 17:46

I bought the M&S ones for my DD as I point blank refused to pay the other branded prices. They’re good and comfy.

DoYouReally · 28/10/2025 17:57

The Primark heavy flow ones are as good as any of the ones I've tried.

Not sure of the UK pricing but it's 3 for €12 in Ireland.

It's worth trying them first before spending more money.

HollaHolla · 28/10/2025 17:58

I'd say how old are you? As in, how many menstruating years do you have left? I bought some when I was 40, then went through menopause at 42. So, got a couple of years out of them....

user1473878824 · 28/10/2025 17:58

Rinsing them is a faff but I find them such less faff than anything else

I was going to say that I have a few pairs of the Primark ones and they have been ok so far.

OP if you feel that the modibodi ones are better maybe get Primark ones for night time / home use and fewer pairs of modibodi for when you are out and about

CurlsLDN · 28/10/2025 18:09

Black Friday is coming up, get on the mailing list for modibody, wuka etc and you might get a good saving

I've probably got 15 - 20 years left of periods

I might get the modi bodi 3 pack for £32 but then you still have to pay a fiver for delivery!

Tesco high waisted period pants are brilliant, and I think £15 for a pack of three. I’ve never looked back. I usually wear a pad with them for the first couple of hours and then take it out and just have the period pants and I love it.

ToffeePennie · 28/10/2025 18:15

I use the M&S ones (ultra heavy flow) with a size 6 nighttime pad to get through each day. Without them I couldn’t cope, so absolutely, spend the bloody money. If you need them and they make things more comfy why not?

Werp · 28/10/2025 18:17

The M&S ones come in different heights and cuts so could be worth trying there again?

HollaHolla · 28/10/2025 18:17

On that basis, I’d invest

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 28/10/2025 18:18

I have several different brand ones, the modibodi ones are my favourite, but the primark ones are a close second and a lot cheaper. M&S ones are ok, don’t like cheeky wipes ones, flowette are quite good and fairly cheap, but need to size up.

I don't rinse mine immediately. I have used reusable period products for decades and period knickers for years. Every pair I take off goes into a wet bag. When my period has finished I put them all into the washing machine on a rinse cycle. My machine also has a "rinse hold" which means after the rinse is done in 8 minutes I set it to no spin but instead to hold the water in the machine. I let them sit in the water for 20 minutes, then drain it, then wash them usually with some bathroom towels to fill the machine.

I use Dettol Laundry Cleanser in the load and they are dried on an airer. My period knickers are WUKA (Wake Up Kiss Ass) there is no ass kicking, more veg on the sofa as I have endometriosis.

OP if the ModiBodi ones are comfy then get those. Yes it is an expense but you will reuse them again and again. I am 51 and my body shows no signs of stopping periods.

I hadnt thought about it that way so thank you!
Though a little depressing to think I still have 20 years of periods to go 😂

PomPomChatton · 28/10/2025 18:20

I get mine from Next. They are cheaper than the branded ones. I've even bought my daughter a random make from Amazon that are OK. They don't need to cost a fortune.

Terrytheweasel · 28/10/2025 18:21

I still only use tampons with a cardboard applicator as I cannot imagine it’s possible to use period pants or a moon cup without a hell of a lot of mess. I guess if you have awful in periods that leak through everything, they would be useful to wear alongside something else like a tampon.

I cannot get past the mess factor

FishPie2 · 28/10/2025 18:22

Buy them - I am well past period time and use them for wearing on long coach or car journeys, just incase of small leaks which do happen as you get older.

FoxRedPuppy · 28/10/2025 18:24

I have next ones. And the M&S ones come in different fabrics and styles.

I don’t rinse them, just chuck them in a normal wash!
