Im being silly about buying period pants

I think I want to buy new period pants, I bought 4 Modibodi pairs but then I shrunk them/got fatter and then I bought some from m&s that were so uncomfortable I threw them in the bin. I looked at buying more Modibodi ones but theyre at least 15 pounds each so two pairs a day (which i think is what I'd wear?) for my 4 day period is going to cost £120. £120 to spend just on pants seems nuts. I dont want to have to remember to wash them during my period, I know what I'm like I wont remember.

Don’t you feel sticky and hot down there? I imagine they must be quite tight and made from synthetic material?

What happens when you take them off? Do you have to boil wash them?

Sorry, lots of questions!

No. The closest comparison I can think of is gym kit that wicks moisture and is slow to smell.

They are not at all hot and sticky as they wick moisture away from the skin.

I was incredibly sceptical before trying but people raved about them so much I got a pair as a back-up for night-time and surprised myself by really liking them.

I have always used tampons as I never liked the "awareness" pads give, but there is none of that. Honestly on a light day it's hard to know if you even bled.

Putthekettleon73 · 28/10/2025 20:28

I've also had the period swimwear and was amazed that it worked! That's a real game changer too.

EveryMeandEveryYou · 28/10/2025 20:28

edit because my MN is glitching

EveryMeandEveryYou · 28/10/2025 20:28

Just checked modibodi and the 6 pack (heavy flow) is down to £94 atm
We tried M&S but the waist band was thin and dug in.

I put them under my feet in the shower and stamp them like red wine ! Then back in the wet bag and back in the wash!

easiest way to rinse imo

What an amazing idea! I will start doing this.

PerkyCyanPoet · 28/10/2025 21:13

Another vote for the Primark ones. I have the normal briefs and the thongs which are good for under leggings for the gym - obv not suitable on their own for mega heavy flow days tho!

JadziaD · 28/10/2025 21:35

I have built up my collection over time. As a rule I use one in the day, one overnight. I buy the most absorbent ones in the full brief or short snd they cope very well. I have a few pairs that are more high leg/bikini etc and those are good too but I dont wear them on my heaviest days, or if it do, I wear at home so I can change if necessary.

OP because I only have 4 pairs of the super hard-core ones but have about 2-2.5 days of heavy bleeding/flooding, i am quite good about washing and rewearing within one cycle. So this morning I put the 2 pairs of shorts (for overnight, worn Sunday and Monday) and the pair i wore yesterday in the wash. I will wear the shorts again tonight and the day pair tomorrow as I will be in the city all day so want my moat hard-core pair even though my bleeding will have slowed down by then.

Works for me.

I can see how they’d have their uses but I don’t do a load of washing everyday so I can’t see how they’d work for me! I have been tempted by the disposable incontinence pants for night time though

hereismydog · 28/10/2025 21:43

I bought the Primark ones for after I had my DS, I wore incontinence pants for a couple of days but they were so uncomfortable and the waistband kept rubbing on my C-section wound so I couldn’t carry on like that! The Primark period pants are very high-waisted and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. I didn’t have a huge amount of lochia, though.

You don’t need to? You just rinse and store them until you do a load.

Cougarintown · 28/10/2025 21:56

I have wuka ones and I love them. They regularly do discounts for buying a few pairs. I now have 10.

I don't even rinse them. Just chuck them in the laundry hamper then in the wash, whenever wash day is.

I might get the modi bodi 3 pack for £32 but then you still have to pay a fiver for delivery!

Still cheaper than 29 years of tampons.

Why not try the Primark ones? If they're not great you can always use them as 'spares!

Also look out for modibod on sale?

I don't understand the practicality of period pants? Wouldn't you need to change them at least twice a day to feel comfortable and dry? And how is the changing practical at places like work ehne you have to fully strip off your bottom half on your lunch break?

It probably depends how heavy your period is but my daughters find a single pair lasts a school day. Most of the time they only need 1 for a whole day, change at bedtime. Some of them advertise they hold equivalent to 3 or 4 tampons.

Also those who think they're messy you're wrong. We never rinse, just literally chuck them straight in the washing machine. Dd has a lidded bucket to keep them in until ready to wash. Basically you rarely even see the blood.

I can’t imagine that going down well in my house. They’d absolutely stink.

They don’t. Thats the point. Liquid is held inside.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 28/10/2025 22:09

I used to love my mooncup. Got along great with it.

Yes but it being held inside the pants doesn’t stop it smelling. I think your deluding yourself if you think bloody pants can sit in the washing basket for 4-5 days and not smell!

mindutopia · 28/10/2025 22:12

I have 3 pairs, but rarely need more than 2. Washable pad on at night, take it off in the morning and period pants all day until the evening. I do washing nearly every day anyway, so wash those and wear the other pair. They’ve lasted me years, maybe 4-5 years at this point. Money well spent given cost of disposable.

pinkpony88 · 28/10/2025 22:14

Im reading this with interest and might have to invest in some of these! I had no idea how good they were. Weird question but how do you know when they are “full”?

It isn't a weird question. I'm not sure mine have ever been "full." I just change them when I shower morning or evening, or sometimes if I am about to go out.

I rinse mine out and wash pretty quickly so I can't be sure, but I have not noticed them smelling. That seems to be the point: they have an antibacterial action in the absorbent bit. They don't smell like pads or tampons.

BettysRoasties · 28/10/2025 22:22

DD’s has a lidded bucket. They rinse and then tell me when the bucket needs to go though the wash. Roughly every 2 days.

Can’t say it smells anymore offence than wet washing. Though I just cannot bring myself to put them in with the regular washing they get their own wash.

Isabella40 · 28/10/2025 22:22

My daughter uses period pants. I find they can take awhile to dry. We are still testing different brands - m&s are ok but she’s had a few leakages even on the super heavy ones. Looking at buying modibody.

How do people dry them quickly?

Thanks for that. Not sure why I’ve never considered these. Think in my mind I’d just filed them under “things that obviously won’t work”! 🤣 how wrong I was. Was supposed to be having an early night but now I’m online shopping for period pants 🤭
