To be very impressed by this coach drivers zero tolerance stance?

Travelling home on a National Express coach this morning.

When we had all boarded, the driver did a couple of safety announcements and then she said "Headphones must be used if you're watching or listening to anything on this coach, nobody else wants to hear your music, and believe me I won't hesitate to stop at a service station and make you get off if you ignore this".

Someone near the front just started having a conversation on loudspeaker and the driver immediately yelled "turn that off please, you all heard what I said before we departed Victoria" Grin Loudspeaker was switched off and peace reigns again.

I might actually email NX and tell them how much I appreciate her, in the hope that they encourage all their drivers to take the same stance.

which 'man'? 🤔

Oh at least read the thread if you're going to try and be sarky 🙄

FOJN · 27/10/2025 13:49

If this is not company policy you could get the driver into trouble. I would email them without including the details of the journey and tell them how much you appreciated the drivers stance. I would also tell them why you have withheld the details of the journey.

Crikey, it seems Nanny No Dumps from Viz has travelled from the past to grace us with her faeces free presence. That takes me back. Your medal's waiting for you.

Haha brilliant! NannyNoDumps 😆

It's great until someone's earphones are leaking a horrible repetitive, tinny bumf bumf bumf the whole way.

TheGander · 27/10/2025 14:03

Good on her! Recently I plucked up courage to ask someone on a train who was on loud speaker phone conversation ( apparently with his wife) to not be so loud, surprisingly he complied immediately . I think we are often too timid.

I'm 61 and have never pooed in a public toilet. I have IBS. It's amazing what the brain can do.

And the award for strangest boast of the day goes to….

Soontobe60 · 27/10/2025 11:55

We had a similar message when we got a coach down to Southampton for a cruise - with the addition of “no solids down the onboard toilet please - no one wants to smell your poo” 😂

Ok no solids, but what about diarrhoeic liquids that come out of your arse?

I am with @sidebirds , which man are you talking about ?
Before you get sarky perhaps you should read @SmellsLikeTeenArmpit 1st post.

@SmellsLikeTeenArmpit I agree with other pp , definitely send a email to NX praising the driver for standing up to inconsiderate passengers and her upholding NX policies.

I was on a coach trip in California many years ago. At the start the driver announced that at every stop he would tell us what time to be back at the coach and he would not wait for latecomers. He was true to his word and as we pulled away from the first stop, two couples could be seen running after the coach, frantically shouting and waving their hands. He ignored them and drove on. It was a beautiful moment for the rest of us who had been on time.

forestaremagic · 27/10/2025 14:22

Our local bus company now has these announcements, was surprised to hear, some one was playing videos without headphones and next minute this announcement said please be courteous and wear headphones or something like that. Same voice as bus stop announcements so obviously added this for the driver to press. Also heard another one asking not to vape. Also now announce when last stop, or if stop is closed or diverting. Bus drivers must have a long list to pressand things they can announce.

And again, before you bothered replying, you should've bothered to read the thread 🤷‍♂️

Had you done that, you'd see that I'd misread and apologised?

Better to misread than not bother at all.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/10/2025 11:59

I was wondering the same thing.
It's an odd thing for the driver to say.
It's not like they have to clean the loos themselves.

They do have to clean them. Pretty outrageous I think, it should not be their job.

But still an odd thing to say, it's simple biology - food in, waste out!

Troubadourr · 27/10/2025 14:31

This should also encompass parents who allow their kids to play peppa pig without headphones.

redjeans28 · 27/10/2025 14:33

badstrict · 27/10/2025 12:08

Right. But is using headphones listed in your link?

I imagine it would come under these stipulations

(vi) Play any music players, musical instruments or electronic devices that are audible and distracting or annoying to any person on any Coach, or which interfere with, or render less audible, any public address system or other equipment;

Comply with any request or instruction from any driver of a Coach or any National Express Representative

Use mobile phones and other electronic devices considerately on all Coaches and in any Station.

And most people are fine.

It's those who aren't who are important here.

It'll be one of the reasons they chose a coach with a toilet in the first place.

Which I acknowledged in my original post. For some people using the toilet is essential. But most passengers will be able to wait for the services. I am not suggesting for one minute that someone with a medical need should not use the toilet. It’s people who can’t be arsed getting off at the services who are the issue.

Sartre · 27/10/2025 15:04

Fantastic. I would also email, you don’t have to go into full details but just sing her praises in the hope it gets back to her and she’s rewarded in some way.

Coffeetime25 · 27/10/2025 15:05

def email and give the praise more drivers should follow this drivers example

milveycrohn · 27/10/2025 15:11

The last tine I did a long coach journey in the UK, someone spoke loudly on their phone for the entire journey.
It was another passenger who complained.
Some people are very selfish. I did not want to hear her intricate phone conversation.

StrawberrySquash · 27/10/2025 15:16

I'm behind the coach driver. And behind an appreciative email!

SmellsLikeTeenArmpit · 27/10/2025 15:53

I've emailed, just saying the coach number/time and how much I appreciated the driver enforcing the rules about electronic noise!

Perfect driver

Drachuughtty · 27/10/2025 15:58

Great you've emailed them! Sick of how many ticket collectors on trains just walk past the business suited blokes shouting about Excel spreadsheets in the quiet coach for hours.

MissyB1 · 27/10/2025 16:01

I remember being on National Express last year coming back from Heathrow, a woman started kicking off loudly because a couple had booked the two seats her and her dd were sitting on, but the woman didn’t want to move. There were plenty of seats at the back! The driver warned her he wouldn’t leave Heathrow if she didn’t shut up and move. She moved, but when he had only been driving about 5 minutes she started shouting again. Driver turned around, drove back to Heathrow and asked the transport police to remove her and her dd. He was firm, calm and professional. The rest of us were so grateful!
