Motherfucking fireworks

How is this allowed past 8pm, I don't understand.

Cat is terrified, kid took 2 hours to get to sleep only to be woken up 10 min ago by more frigging fireworks.

how on earth is this still allowed??

I hate this time of year.

It's f** triggering. These twats should go and help in Gaza, I'm sure they would not be firing frigging fireworks after that experience !!

thanks for listening :( :( :(

I didn't realise literally burning money to create huge bangs was essential for living life 🙄

Well, now you do.

This year is the first time we have had a pet in our house at firework season. Adult DD is on holiday so we are cat-sitting. He is just over a year old and completely a house cat.

Last night at about 9pm someone started setting off fireworks near by. He shot up awake out of his bed so I was ready to go and provide comfort and reassurance. However, it turned out what he really wanted to do was go sit in the window sill so he could watch! Grin

Yep. You can tell you’re not experienced- the cat was startled and on high alert keeping watch looking for approaching danger- he was prob highly stressed. That initial startle and continued stress has led many animals to suffer heart attacks both domestic and especially in the wild

Well, now you do.

Actually we don’t, we just know someone making big explosions in the sky, in the most recent case to celebrate some made up stories is more important than the lives of sentient beings.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 21/10/2025 12:37

I think they should restrict them to organised displays tbh. Diwali, November 5th, NYE. Other events need a licence via council.

It’s sad but people shouldn’t be allowed to buy them otc

How would a loud bang suddenly cause a blockage in an artery?

Fireworks are a feature of daily life. Every day and every night there are fireworks going off here. Could be 3pm or 3am seems to make no matter. Someone is having a display every single evening, it’s often better now as they are often between 8-10pm whereas when it doesn’t get dark until 10pm they are often let off 11pm-2am. Many of them are just the noise ones so nothing to actually see, too,

Hearing and seeing them every day is so normal and unremarkable that I wonder each time I see these threads complaining about one evening. I didn’t notice any unusual fireworks this week, just the standard amount.

It does seem to calm down a bit in the spring, I’ll admit. Feb to April is only occasional but always every day/night all summer, autumn and Christmas/new year season.

er .. thanks for enlightening me... I know it's Diwali... I live in London. In fact I attended a Diwali party yesterday, but their fireworks stopped at 7pm. Can it just not be kept under control? And kept within some normal hours???

Normal hours? Fireworks are used at night. If you set them off at noon it wouldn't create such an effect!
I do feel for animals, but 8 pm is not late.

Once a year here.

Gunfire is far more common.

Those of you nobs that reply with 'but-but it's only one night or it's Diwali', can you please explain how people coped celebrating Diwali and Guy Fawkes Night before ear drum shattering mortar bomb fireworks were invented?????

Is it really fucking necessary to upset so many people and animals just because you're bored? No. It's not. And most of the twats setting off fireworks buy them and set them off because they fucking well can, not because they give a shit about religion or tradition. I doubt most of them have even heard of Guy Fawkes. God this country is full of twats. Rammed full of them.

I doubt anyone alive can remember that far back. It was a very long time ago.

Where do you live??

I am South East, and while there's a bit of an exaggeration, I agree it's still all year round.

There are fireworks for Proms, for weddings, now for engagements - I discover that after an uproar on a local group about another random but very extensive display 😂- for New Year (and that's a good 3 weeks for New year!), the whole of November,

it's weekends, it's on weekdays

And I am not including the little private ones, small but still a disturbance for presumably birthdays, parties, christening. It's all the flipping time.

It's a good thing for me I actually like them, but I do feel sorry for all the wildlife and the pets going crazy at home - and people who really can't cope.

Hmm I also live South East London and I never hear them except from around this time. We have Indians neighbours a few houses up and they have partied for days with lots of people out in their garden (must be hundreds) and constant fireworks. So anti social!

I was born in 1958 and remember the fireworks were nothing like as loud as they are nowadays!

I love the look of them but the really loud bangs add nothing to a celebration of Light. They should be banned and leave in the really spectacular visual ones.

I’m a similar age. While I’ll agree that the really loud fireworks were not as common, I do remember them from organised displays both in the UK and abroad.

I like them. That said, I think that fireworks should only be on sale to the general public for the week before Bonfire Night like they used to be.

Well, animals don’t have the right to live fireworks free either. 🤷‍♀️

Humans are above pets really, nuisance though it may be.

You have a dreadful attitude.

I don’t mind organised events for guy fawkes night as it is a national celebration and important part of our history, we do need to make sure everyone understands what it’s about - and yes the fireworks should be scaled back - kids maybe encouraged more “penny for the guy etc”. - but it’s important we have national and local traditional events. But it’s a big no for weddings and minority religious celebrations

Staringintothevoid616 · 21/10/2025 18:39

Tiebiter · 21/10/2025 09:32

Fireworks and pets are equally 'unnecessary'. Fireworks and pets both bring joy. Fireworks and pets both cause injury.

its not just pets though is it? It’s wildlife.wildlife is necessary. Pets exist in this country and for the vast majority of people are part of the family. Fireworks cause issues for pets and wildlife. It causes stress and death. Fireworks have no feelings. If someone thinks constant fireworks in the sky, at a wedding or minority religious festival are more important than and animals health and life that’s not someone I want to have any contact with - we are a nation of animal lovers

I agree with this

Also you can buy quieter or low sound fireworks...there is no need to have the huge bang to enjoy the display other than selfishness

XWKD · 21/10/2025 19:18

I'm in Ireland, and Halloween is the big fireworks night, but the weeks leading up to it have fireworks as well. The ones this year sound like bombs going off. Fireworks are banned here, but it doesn't make any difference.

Ontobetterthings · 21/10/2025 19:26

We had it last night. Really loud fireworks til 1am. My kids couldn't sleep they were that loud. They were exhausted this morning for school. I think its so inconsiderate esp as its not a weekend.

  1. It's Diwali, so there's a clear reason for them and you know when they'll be and can plan accordingly.
  2. The biggest public celebration (Leicester) was cancelled due to safety fears. So people can't just go to public celebrations. There are also far fewer of them.
  3. Because Diwali is a new year celebration, they can go until 1 am, just like all new year celebrations in this country.

If we're going to get rid of one of the fireworks days, I vote for New Year which only recently acquired fireworks or Bonfire Night which celebrates a failed attempt to kill the king in 1604 and is therefore far less culturally significant.

Do you not have to get up for work and till 1 a.m. on a working night is very selfish imo

It is Diwali. It is a known date for fireworks, just like Nov 5th.

First post nails it.
