I have horses 😅 they eat up most of my free time.
I read a great deal, if DH goes out for the night I read all night!
Not quite a hobby but I'm very active in my church.

Before marriage/dc I also did kickboxing and cycling and gym but I didn't have horses then!

I went through a phase of dolls house stuff which was amazing. But then I got bored and now I don't have space.

We crossed posts with our doll’s houses.

I’m pretty much brand new (2 years!) but have somehow reached 3 dogs already 😂 Probably soon to be divorced!

I also walk my dogs a lot but that’s more in the chores list during winter.

Easily done 😅 I remember the days of 3! I daren't tell you what we're up to but let's just say, it's not just my fault as DH and DC are into it too! The dogs outnumber us all by about 3 to 1 🙈😅

GreenGodiva · 21/10/2025 18:20

All arts arts crafts but currently focusing on stained glass and beading.

I bake my own sourdough bread and ferment my own sauerkraut.

I keep tropical fish.

I have an allotment and greenhouse.

All that Kris me very busy and I love it. Hoping to get a kiln for Xmas so I can start glass fusing.

It's not a better question if what you wanted was hobbies inspiration, which is what the OP said.

I teach full time, have older teenage children (one at uni) and a thoroughly useful dh, fwiw. I still don't have enough time to spend much of it on my hobbies.

Ok, fair enough. And sorry that you don't have enough time.

I do think I'm right, though, that the answer to those questions will correlate closely with the ability of most women to have hobbies at all.

And since we are on a women-dominated site, where a huge segment of posts reveal that women are disadvantaged in terms of almost everything by an almost-universal unfair split of domestic and caring duties (by which I mean, anything that isn't a genuine 50/50 split of thinking about and doing all caring/domestic/home stuff) - I think I'm within tolerance to post this.

BTW your description of your DH as 'useful' implies that you are grateful for him 'helping', and accepting of the fact that it is your role to be the engine that drives the family and home, despite the fact that you work full time. This is exactly the kind of unjust split I'm talking about.

You may have mis-spoken. Alternatively, perhaps that is why you were sufficiently stung to respond to my post.

No, he's genuinely useful. I was very part time for a looong time while the kids were younger and I did the majority of the home stuff then, but he was always a capable parent (requiring no guidance or instructions, which apparentlymost fathes do) and did loads when he was home. The moment I went back to work ft he took on probably more than half the home stuff. It wouldn't have occurred to him not to.

I can answer that.

I'm a teacher. Teach full time and I'm in school 7.45am-5.30pm 5 days a week.

My children are adults now but I've always had hobbies and prioritised time for myself. Even when my exh and I separated and the children were younger, my hobby time was protected and he fully supported it.

That's not quite the same thing.

thestudio · 22/10/2025 14:29

MusicWoman · 22/10/2025 00:09

What's not the same thing?

I meant that being 'supported' to have hobbies is not the same thing as a 50% share of the domestic/caring load.

For eg, if someone says 'oh darling, why don't you leave the dishwasher/bathroom clean, go and have a swim' it's not the same thing as knowing that they have taken responsibility for those things and will do them without being asked, so you can go and have a swim without having those tasks waiting for you when you get back.
