To think it's far too early (and bloody annoying) for fireworks?

I have a young baby, the fireworks sound like gunshots outside his window, currently trying to get him to sleep. I have no problem with fireworks on the allocated days, I even enjoy them as they are expected. Am I being unreasonable to think they should happen on allotted days only? Also, poor dogs.

Put on some white noise

It’s Diwali

It’s Diwali

IPM · 19/10/2025 19:11

On what allocated days?

FWIW I think they should be for displays only, but there are no 'allocated days' that I know of.

Latenightreader · 19/10/2025 19:11

We had some round here but it is Diwali tomorrow.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 19/10/2025 19:12

Are you in Oxfordshire? It's Oxfordshire Day. Also Diwali so you probably should expect some.

Amammai · 19/10/2025 19:12

It’s Diwali tomorrow - so they might be to celebrate that?

I know I sound like a killjoy but I would ban them outside organised events

JaneEyre40 · 19/10/2025 19:14

I'm an idiot, I didn't even know it was Diwali 🙄

It’s Diwali. One of our neighbours posted on FB to give our village advance warning, I think he said the main days for letting them off would be Monday and Wednesday, so expect them for a few more days (then a lull until Bonfire Night!)

JaneEyre40 · 19/10/2025 19:14

Thanks all

If they were for bonfire night then YANBU but I suspect, as others say, these are for Diwali. Hopefully you’ll have a bit of a break before any more start up.

Nopenott0day · 19/10/2025 19:58

They should only be for bonfire night and NYE.

We haven't had any round here as it's slatting it down.

Bloody inconsiderate any other time.

squashyhat · 19/10/2025 20:06

In Sussex the bonfire season is well under way. I love it.

Diwali is tomorrow, as I've been reliably informed by a neighbour who celebrates it.

We've heard random bangs for the last week or so and tonight have heard a large distant display from a nearby estate where an illegal ebike rider has recently met his thoroughly predictable end.

The general public continue to prove themselves utterly incapable of behaving sensibly with fireworks and therefore shouldn't be able to purchase them alongside their weekly groceries.

BallerinaRadio · 19/10/2025 20:14

You've only just got them? Lucky you we've had them for months. Like a PP says I'd do a blanket ban on the wretched things

Tiredofwhataboutery · 19/10/2025 20:23

There’s been complaints on the community Facebook group for weeks now. It is ridiculous. We’re really rural as well so could walk to far side of park or cross the river and it would have a much lower impact but no round the back of a block of flats 🤦‍♀️ I think should be banned for public sale.

I do like fireworks so I’d go to a display.

100% if I know it's happening and it's one day here or there fine. It's all this 'practice' leading up to an event that is annoying. However, again I did not realise there was a reason tonight.

Why does it have to go on so long into the evening though

it should stop at 10

We still had them going off at 3am this morning ( live in an area with a large asian population ). Dog was terrified all night and we got no sleep. Expecting it all to continue until aft least tomorrow as that is the main Diwali day.

Echobelly · 19/10/2025 20:42

I was a bit 'What the hell?' about the fireworks today and then I rememebred Diwali normally falls a bit before 5th Nov.
