To think it's far too early (and bloody annoying) for fireworks?

JaneEyre40 · 19/10/2025 19:10

I have a young baby, the fireworks sound like gunshots outside his window, currently trying to get him to sleep. I have no problem with fireworks on the allocated days, I even enjoy them as they are expected. Am I being unreasonable to think they should happen on allotted days only? Also, poor dogs.

They should only be for bonfire night and NYE.

We haven't had any round here as it's slatting it down.

Bloody inconsiderate any other time.

@Nopenott0day

says who? What about Diwali? Who gets to decide what event is more important than another?

It wouldn’t usually bother me , however Im at my parents’ house and their dog is hyper sensitive and barks at everything and anything !

suburburban · 19/10/2025 20:44

Can’t they light some candles instead

it’s raining and it’s still going on

so inconsiderate as it seems excessive and bad for the environment

I admit we’ve done fireworks in the garden in the past at Guy Faulks but they were about an hours worth at the most as they were expensive

ObliviousCoalmine · 19/10/2025 20:45

I don’t think you should be able to buy fireworks unless it’s a proper organised display. Ridiculous that you can see them off wherever and whenever you fancy.

Funsies · 19/10/2025 20:45

We're lighting some up for Diwali today. It's fun

Is it? What’s fun about it?

Fairydustand · 19/10/2025 20:47

Yes, I agree.Well Actually I would like them only at displays. Not for sale to the general public. They are too noisy and can be dangerous.

SheSpeaks · 19/10/2025 20:48

Fireworks every night here, haven’t had a night for months where they aren’t going off. Most commonly for an extended display between 10pm and 1pm at some point. Although occasionally they are at a more reasonable 9pm they do randomly rocket them at 3am sometimes just to keep us on our toes. Although it’s just the noises we can’t see them.

Often hear them during the day also. But fireworks are always nightly and I can’t remember the last time they weren’t going off. Highly populated area here so must be dense with babies and dogs, I’m assuming they all must be used to them too.

Put on some white noise

Sure

At what kind of volume?

They sound like bombs going off

How is "Calming Sounds from Cbeebies Radio" going to help

They are fucking explosives

TheNightingalesStarling · 19/10/2025 20:49

As a heads up, with bonfire night being a Wednesday you get two weekends of "official" fireworks this year.

Should 0.5% of the population cause everyone else annoyance?

LessOfThis · 19/10/2025 20:52

Fireworks should be banned until humans can behave in a less selfish manner. My compromise is to allow organised displays only.

Fairydustand · 19/10/2025 20:54

I dread this time of year when the bangers go off, if I am out.I feel terrified ,as once upon a time I had one thrown at me and a colleague .I have also seen a drifting firework land on a child at a display, where they were let of too close. They are explosives. They should be banned in shops.

@Nopenott0day

Well, not “everyone else” is gonna be annoyed by it 🤷‍♀️

You clearly are, but you can’t speak for everyone, plenty of people aren’t bothered by fireworks one iota!

The short answer is yes.

Because whilst they're available to all adults in high street shops, there is no hierarchy of worthiness.

I don't feel bothered by it on another occasions. I like seeing the colours in the night sky and the sound doesn't bother me. Id understand if there was a large risk to the human population, but I'm not gonna get upset about a few dogs being scared

Sarah2891 · 19/10/2025 20:58

They definitely should be for organised displays only.

PoliteRaven · 19/10/2025 20:58

In my area for the past few years fireworks are going off regularly, most weeks - all year round. No idea why. Feel sorry for people who live right near and any pets in the vicinity.

I don't feel bothered by smoking in public places. I quite like the trail of smoke and the twinkling lit end of my cigarette.

It doesn't pose a massive risk to anyone else and I like it.

See where that attitude get us as a society?

Blimey, where do you live? I’ll never move there, that’s for sure!

Perishing things, one of the reasons why I’d not get a dog.

Milliemoons · 19/10/2025 21:02

I feel for you, my 5 month old was woken 3 times last night by enormous firework bangs and the poor dog had to sleep in the bed with us (he never does) because he was so frightened. On the third baby waking I was so angry I nearly shouted out the window that they could come and breastfeed her to sleep this time :/ I hate it. By all means celebrate but not with great big bangs in the middle of a residential estate. There are so many fields and event spaces near here that could be used instead. But no. Literally in the garden next door instead…

Nah, me either.

they’ll get over it.

In Sussex the bonfire season is well under way. I love it.
Sussex Bonfire

Seaford was awesome last night.

I love Sussex bonfire, I also prefer organised events rather than home fireworks.

Cant wait for the glorious 5th in Lewes.

WellYouWereMythTaken · 19/10/2025 21:14

They’re going off here too. It’s Diwali tomorrow as others have said so probably mostly to do with that.

I’m on the fence about fireworks- don’t hate them don’t really like them- but I think Diwali is a much nicer celebration (festival of lights) than Guy Fawkes night, which is the celebration of brutally executing a man several hundred years ago.

IPM · 19/10/2025 21:24

Is it Diwali tomorrow?

I only ask because no-one's mentioned it 😁

We might need to cancel the cheque too.
