Induction hob emergency

Please help! I am about to cook for 10 people who have paid good money for my cooking and I can’t make more than 1 of these rings work on this stupid induction hob.

AIBU to ask WTF do I press?!

The on switch bottom right seems to turn the bottom right ring on. Pressing the top 4 buttons does absolutely nothing. I can change the temperature of bottom right fine with the + and - buttons.

Help.

Are you absolutely sure that pressing the top buttons does nothing? Press and hold?

AutumnTimePolice · 18/10/2025 16:00

Mine does this sometimes. Wipe it with a towel and try again.
It’s def the top buttons.

Fleur405 · 18/10/2025 16:01

What make is the hob? You can usually find instruction manuals online

AutumnTimePolice · 18/10/2025 16:02

Also wipe your fingers, mine doesn’t like greasy fingers 🤣😆

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 18/10/2025 16:02

Have you tried holding the key icon down

rwalker · 18/10/2025 16:03

Have a look see if you can see make if hob and google instructions
at a guess press and hold the inductor button at top for which ring u want to use then use plus and minus to turn up and down

DeafLeppard · 18/10/2025 16:04

Are you sure that’s induction and not radiant/ceramic?

fost · 18/10/2025 16:04

Pretty sure that's not an induction hob as it's glowing and they don't glow.

Regardless, have you tried the bottom left button, the arrow circle, i'd assume that cycles through which hob the + and - buttons are referring to at any given time.

JudgeBread · 18/10/2025 16:06

God I hate hobs like this, it's like the stupid Tesla one we've got in our kitchen, as soon as I can afford to get rid of it I will be.

As others have said give it a wipe, a single drop of water on the panel of mine makes it completely non functional (or all the rings will turn on 9 and you can't turn them off again).

You should be able to touch the button for each ring, it'll display zero then you can turn it up and down with the + and -. In theory.

themerchentofvenus · 18/10/2025 16:06

@TheRozzers induction hobs don't usually glow red. Are you 100% sure this is an induction hob????

(you can test by turning one on VERY LOW and put your hand on it - if it starts heating up with your hand on it, then it's not induction!)

You should be able to just press down for a couple of seconds on the one you want then the number below should flash, which you then just increase to whatever temperature you want.

TheRozzers · 18/10/2025 16:15

Update!!! I got a second ring working but fuck knows how I did it. Pressing the top buttons doesn’t seem to do anything

Thank you for the suggestions so far

The make is Morris

Mine has to have the pan on the ring to work. Induction and all that

GellerYeller · 18/10/2025 16:18

Has the key icon been pressed? On mine(induction) that locks the control buttons for child safety/cleaning. I think holding it down unlocks it if that’s the case.

Hayley1256 · 18/10/2025 16:18

Do you need to put a pan on the right bit first?

sittingonabeach · 18/10/2025 16:22

If induction you need a pan on the ring

WonderfulSmith · 18/10/2025 16:22

That isn’t an induction hob. They don’t glow or get hot in any way without a pan on them.

TheRozzers · 18/10/2025 16:22

Thanks I tried the pan thing but sadly didn’t work

It’s not an induction hob. Having the pan on it will make no difference.

Dartmoorcheffy · 18/10/2025 16:26

Good luck. Im a private chef and I absolutely hate getting to a clients and being faced with hobs and ovens that I've not used before.

GellerYeller · 18/10/2025 16:27

Is the hob owner present? Can they show you how it works?

Flibbertyfloo · 18/10/2025 16:28

Try taking a picture of the whole hob and asking Chat GPT or posting it here. Chat GPT is surprisingly good at working out appliances.

sittingonabeach · 18/10/2025 16:28

Is it this one?

Do new ceramic jobs only work with certain types of pan like induction hobs? Is it failing to work with your pans, or are they the client’s pans? Clutching at straws sorry.
