Hi everyone!
Im due my second baby at the end of this year and am struggling with names!
I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share the names you’ve called your children or names of grandchildren/neices/nephews etc.
Sometimes I think it’s nicer to hear about people’s actual choices, whether they regret or love their choice, how it suits their child etc.
I have read through almost every list going - thought this might be a different way to get some ideas!
Thank you so much

I have three adult children - two boys and a girl. I won't say their actual names but some we considered:
William, Oliver, Richard, James, Charlotte, Bethan, Adele, Briony.

Violinist64 · 17/10/2025 23:49

Also Rosalind.

Mansionscoldandgrey · 17/10/2025 23:59

Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy.

BoudiccaRuled · 18/10/2025 00:04

Lucy always appealed but was voted against by husband and baby's big sis.
Hephzibah would have been amazing, but it's shortened version is Eppie (see Silas Marner) which at the time was used as a slur on epileptics so also vetoed.
ALSO Zuleika as in Zuleika Dobson, but our surname is even worse than Dobson 😂

Sportsdaywinner · 18/10/2025 00:06

Horace

Zoono · 18/10/2025 00:10

I liked emilia and sienna but then partner vetoed those names and we went with a different name that we both loved. Most people on here will not tell you their child's actual name , as why use mumsnet, if anonymity isn't important to you.

I don't see how this could really be outing.
I have a Henry and an Edward. Love both their names, Edward gets Eddie or Ted as NN. I loved Jacob at the time but a friend stole it first 😅

What's your first called and do you know the sex of second? X

You don’t think it’s outing because you have a Henry and an Edward. My child has a name so unusual the numbers weren’t listed individually for his year of birth — which I think means fewer than three that year.

OP, other options were Sadhbh, Iarla and Fergus.

Driftingawaynow · 18/10/2025 00:13

Hephzibah

shampop · 18/10/2025 00:15

Jacob Rease Mog called his 6th sextus (6 in latin)

Actually the Victorians did that all the time, e.g. Septimus . . . .the man is in every way a throwback!

sparkleghost · 18/10/2025 00:52

I liked (but didn’t use) Robin and Poppy.

Miniaturemom · 18/10/2025 01:25

My two have VERY common names. Mine is uncommon and even though people get it wrong quite often I do like it. I let my husband choose and even though the names themselves are lovely, I can’t stand hearing them everywhere and hesitate when I call after them or tell people their names when we meet them for the first time.

WaryHiker · 18/10/2025 01:31

We used to refer to our older children as Thing One and Thing Two. The rest of them were just referred to as The Others!

We did mostly use all their names though.

I heard of a family who had four girls and named the first three Faith, Hope and Charity, and the last one Barbara!

mathanxiety · 18/10/2025 01:31

I considered Clementine for one of them but I'm glad she has a different name as a redhead named Clementine would have been too on the nose.

You can't call a kid number 2.

My second is called Deux.

My mum called me daughter number 2

Katemax82 · 18/10/2025 07:20

One of my kids is called Toby (Tobias on his birth certificate)
I thought I was being original cos there were no Toby's at me daughter's school, also I'm a big fan of the film labyrinth. Not long after when I would go shopping if always hear mum's yelling at their kids (TOBY!! STOP IT!!) it always seemed to be to us getting yelled at.

OrangeAxolotyl · 18/10/2025 07:22

My dad had a shop with 4 female shop assistants. He frequently called me and my sister by one or other of their names. Sometimes he'd go through all of them before settling on the correct name.

Katemax82 · 18/10/2025 07:24

Other names we considered but used as middle names were Charlotte and David. I wanted to call my firstborn David as my dad who died when I was 10 was David. Unfortunately my stepdad is bloody David so everyone would have assumed it was after him, also my husband's bil is David! There's about 5 more in the wider family. I really wanted to call my next son Ike. That was shut down immediately and somehow we ended up with Toby. My 4th child i really wanted to call him Theodore so he would be teddy. But that also got shut down as Toby chose a name which we went with

I go through all my kids names before getting to the right one, even worse since my 4th has a name similar to Toby!!

PaddlingSwan · 18/10/2025 08:52

hyggetyggedotorg · 17/10/2025 19:40

I will as mine are all top 20/30 & all are adults so very few security issues.

Jack, Thomas, Poppy & Mia.

It's for passwords. That's the security issue.
