Hi everyone!
Im due my second baby at the end of this year and am struggling with names!
I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share the names you’ve called your children or names of grandchildren/neices/nephews etc.
Sometimes I think it’s nicer to hear about people’s actual choices, whether they regret or love their choice, how it suits their child etc.
I have read through almost every list going - thought this might be a different way to get some ideas!
Thank you so much

ThePoshUns · 17/10/2025 22:42

Maisie
Barnaby
Isabella
Arthur
Noah
Wilf
Amelia
Arlo

Although I’m sure there’s nothing there you won’t have thought of yourself as all quite popular names at the moment.

Okay I realise maybe this isnt going to get me any sensible ideas so maybe just names you considered for your children or names you liked but couldnt use??

I wanted something that wasn't out there unique but also not a name you hear too often so went with Damien, hence the username 😁

Irritatedandsad · 17/10/2025 22:54

Ethel and Edna.
Not really it's too outing. But I do think Ethel should make a comeback :)
I always wanted Estella for a girl, from Great Expectations.

Just your card number please

ScrambledEggs12 · 17/10/2025 22:57

Why not just ask your friends, Google or ChatGPT?

PickAChew · 17/10/2025 23:00

Ogbert and Nigel.

There's Norway he was swimming at that age.

AngelinaFibres · 17/10/2025 23:08

If I'd had girls they would have been Eleanor Catherine and Harriet Alice. They came out with penises.

MinnieMountain · 17/10/2025 23:10

DH’s aunt knew a Thor, but she lives in Norway. I’m not sure it would work in Britain.

AngelinaFibres · 17/10/2025 23:11

Always wished I was named Clemency. Clemmie for short. Sadly I was born in the mid 60s and given a name that eleventy billion other girls born in the middle 60s were given.

I'm Thor.
Ooo I'm Thor too. You can get cream for that.

ThePoshUns · 17/10/2025 23:13

Spartacus

YerAWizardHarry · 17/10/2025 23:14

Ours are Oliver William and James Alexander, two very common names I’m sure so not worried about it being “outing” at all.

Imanautumn · 17/10/2025 23:15

Ivy
Martha
Ned
Stanley

I feel your pain. My name was top three for something ridiculous like 20 years! You cant throw a stone without hitting someone with my name. There were four of us in my (small) primary school class alone.

Horrible as you became "Jane B, Jane L and Jane T" (not my real name) Although in DD's class there were two Lily-Maes and Gracie-Maes. Although I did laugh when an insufferable woman I used to work with chose the dreaded Neveah as it was "unique", and fuck me didnt she go on about it, and then there were two others in her DD's reception class.

AliTheMinx · 17/10/2025 23:27

My DS is Theo Alexander. I wanted 2 strong names (they are both Greek) and as he was a rainbow baby, I chose Theo as it means Gift from.God.

If I had had a girl, I would have chosen Annabelle Elise. I also found a name in my family tree that I really like - Alexina.

LuckyKoalaBear · 17/10/2025 23:39

Girls names we loved but didn't use
Lucia
Emily
Gabriella
Alba
Sophia

Boys names
Oran
Lachlan
Brodie
Harris
Ruairidh

DH is Scottish and my family are European so in the end we picked names which worked in both languages

Fifthtimelucky · 17/10/2025 23:42

NotSayingBotBut · 17/10/2025 19:26

It was going to be Thomas and Henry but my DH said they sounded like tank engines, so they're called something else non- train related.

If I remember rightly from my years of watching Thomas the Tank Engine videos, Henry (like Edward, Gordon and James) was a tender engine not a tank engine!

For boys, we never managed to agree on a shortlist, but my personal one would include:

James
Edward
William
Richard
Sebastian

For girls, we liked

Sarah
Caroline
Catherine
Charlotte
Emily
Elizabeth
Eleanor
Victoria
Alice
Lucy
Stephanie

Our two daughters and two cats all had names from that list!

MsSmartShoes · 17/10/2025 23:43

If I’d had my way:
Marnie
Elenie
Genevieve
