To be somewhat proud of being vaccinated?

With all the anti vax bollocks going about at the moment I’m somewhat proud of myself for actually going and getting vaccinated. I just think it’s mad that people won’t!

Vaccinated against what?

Iamfree · 17/10/2025 12:25

You do you.

valianttortoise · 17/10/2025 12:26

Yellow fever free and PROUD

Vaccinated against what?

Everything. Mainly inspired by getting my flu jab today and a lot of people at work being horrified that I would

Everyone has a choice.
Be proud all you like, but don't think it makes you better than someone who isn't vaccinated, just means you've made a different choice from them.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 17/10/2025 12:28

Sorry, people are horrified at you getting a flu jab? Why?

BruisedNeckMeat · 17/10/2025 12:28

As someone who ended up in hospital and needing three blood transfusions after a Covid jab I cannot be judgemental about anyone who is now wary.

Holluschickie · 17/10/2025 12:29

I am getting mine.but I am not particularly proud about it.

GoodVibesHere · 17/10/2025 12:30

Proud is a bit of a strange way of thinking of it. Getting vaccinated is just something you get done or don't get done.

poshcrisps · 17/10/2025 12:30

I've just paid to be vaccinated. Shingrix. Total nearly £500. Just had first one.

AgDulAmach · 17/10/2025 12:30

There was a huge amount of blatant lying that went on around the covid jab, which created unnecessary distrust around other vaccinations. It really isn't fair to criticise people for being wary when they were so obviously treated like idiots.

GreyCarpet · 17/10/2025 12:30

I won't be getting a covid jab. I've nol caught it and I was really ill after the first compulsory one.

I've never had a flu jab because I've never had flu either.

I'm not proud of it though. It's hardly an achievement!

Bluestitching · 17/10/2025 12:31

It’s a bit weird to be proud of getting your flu vax.

people make different decisions one of my kids couldn’t have her baby vaxs on the normal schedule. I wasn’t ashamed. It was just one of those things. And I wasn’t proud of my kids who got theirs on the normal schedule.

McSpoot · 17/10/2025 12:31

That's a seriously weird flex (I say this as someone who is up-to-date on my vaccinations).

because of all the anti vax shit going around in the press. I’m genuinely flabbergasted.

You do realise what the flu jab is for?

It's a weird thing to be proud of. Different people make different decisions. Especially around flu as only limited people qualify for it on nhs.

i do qualify for flu on nhs and do take it up each year, but mine isn't until end of november

It’s £15 for a private one. It keeps everyone safe and to be honest unless there’s a bona fide medical condition that means you can’t get it, i do judge people who don’t get vaccines.

Flu..?

Holluschickie · 17/10/2025 12:42

Bloody hell the Covid vax is £90. I don't qualify on the NHS.

Ohmygodthepain · 17/10/2025 12:43

My sister wasnt vaccinated as a kid but as soon as she got to 18 she got everything as quickly as they could schedule them.

Why would you not want to take advantage of the most successful and widespread medical advances of the 18th/19th/20th/21st centuries?

That I consider very neglectful of your parents.

Other people have different priorities for money. And flu is an awkward one to be proud of as it doesn't always stop you catching flu.

i honestly don't care who gets vaccinated and who doesn't for flu. I'm not entirely convinced that I would bother with it if I didn't meet the requirements for it on NHS.

your judgmental mentality says far more about you than others opting for different things than you.

Luckily I don't give a monkeys about your judgement.
I know too many people who have had bad experiences after flu / covid vaccines so I don't have them.
Childhood vaccines are a different story (MMR, etc.) - I trust those.
Be careful your pride doesn't start sounding smug, you can lose friends that way...
