Neighbour parking issues..again

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:07

Had ongoing issues with neighbours inconsiderate parking. Just as that seems to have resolved, we now have ANOTHER knob head parker. This guy doesn't live on our estate but has started parking his huge van and trailer on the road into our street. He also has 2 cars and a jeep which he said he parks in our neighbourhood as its safer than where he lives several streets away. I totally get this but he is taking up all the parking spaces in our little area and it's causing real issues. Now he said he is going to start parking his other huge industrial vehicle with a trailer on the road at the side of our house for at least 6 months. It's a monstrosity and it'll be there all over Christmas and new year when we have friends and family visiting. I am devastated, we worked hard to move into our little estate and now it looks like a shit hole. I know he isn't doing anything illegal but im still gutted...myself and another neighbour estimated that he is taking up 11 parking spaces. Am I just being a dick to be upset by this?

I do not advocate damaging the vehicle, but I would be contacting the council and anyone else who could make his life difficult.

In the OP it's not just one car, it's a number of vehicles. And not parked on the street the owner lives in.

my post quoted the post I was replying to (HINT not the OP)

Such a pity when vehicles have their wing mirrors broken, wipers ripped off and paint remover sprayed on them by persons unknown in dark clothes and a hoodie.

WashYourDamnRice · 17/10/2025 16:40

No advice, OP but a lot of sympathy. We have similar in my street. There's a garage two streets up who uses our residential street as their own personal parking lot. He buys old junkers, presumably for parts, and leaves them on the street for months at a time. There's not a lot of parking round here so it drives the residents mad, especially if you have to park your one car ages away because he's got ten dumped on the street!
Unfortunately, as long as theyre taxed and MOTd, there's not much that can be done. Very selfish behaviour though!

I presume you've already gone down this avenue but I thought I'd it was a business they're not allowed to leave 'commercial' vehicles on a public road. It's definitely worth checking with your council if you haven't done so

ScarilyClose · 17/10/2025 16:44

Who did he say this to? Why didn't they challenge him on it?

BlueMum16 · 17/10/2025 16:48

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 15:03

He actually shouted it at me as he was driving off in his van (which was actually parked on the footpath, blocking the whole access at the time)..and I haven't seen him since but he has the whole estates nearby on edge cos we don't know when this ginormous vehicle is going to land

How old are the houses you live in?

Where I live (new-ish estate/under 20 yrs) we have restrictions in our deeds about no commercial vehicles. Just a thought.

LardoBurrows · 17/10/2025 16:58

I'd definitely be contacting your local councillor to see if there is anything they can do. I'd also be looking at the possibility of putting a skip or large trailer in the space he is threatening to use.

Also, as he is self employed I'd be making a call to HMRC suggesting his tax affairs are not entirely accurate. Once HMRC get their teeth into you they are a bugger to shake off.😈

Your friend it would suck for I get that. I haven’t actually met a taxi driver that doesn’t also have a personal car.

I do think though if you run a business and that business has vehicles then parking those should be taken into consideration. In his case it’s his daily car and work car so a bit different and it’s not additional vehicles.

We had 6 dpd vans parking up every night for a week just lining the street like we lived in the depot. Two tow trucks fill the lay-by every day and I do mean in the day so not being used just sitting there.

Well conversely, of all the taxi drivers I k ie (which is a LOT) none of them have a 'private' car, bar one who has a 2 seater sports car he's had since before he was a taxi driver, which he garages. It's too bloody expensive to run two cars when you can only drive one at a time.

it will vary in different parts of the country as some areas are far more restrictive to the cars that drivers must use than others.

my friends is a Hyundai Tuscon with a little 'taxi' light on the top (no other signage) impractical to take the sign off every night. Not necessary, it's just a car.

yes, we have a window cleaning company around here. With about 8 well sign written vans parked all over. I don't think his staff all live that locally 🙄. But on the other hand, he's a nice bloke & the vans are immaculate. They don't really bother me. Not like one the bloke across the road parks on the grass out front of ours (huge white long wheel base, beaten up old thing!) ESPECIALLY when he has plenty of space on his driveway.

I don't think big companies like DPD should be able to park several vehicles up like that. But if it was just one that was a neighbour's work vehicle I guess that's life.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 17/10/2025 13:19

I know this is funny but its classed as tampering with a motor vehicle and you could be prosecuted

Maybe drop a bag of nails 😂

That'll make your neighbours happy...

Xiaoxiong · 17/10/2025 17:09

In our borough, goods vehicles over 2000 kg, business vans, lorries, and buses are not eligible for residents parking permits at all. For non-resident street parking, they're only allowed to park in residential areas if it's "not a regular occurrence".

I think that's meant to cover deliveries or having some short-term work done that needs commercial vehicles to come and go, but to prevent what your arse of a neighbour is doing.

It's definitely worth checking with your local councillor.

Ponderingwindow · 17/10/2025 17:17

Talk to the council. If they have little recourse, you could ask them to make your street permitted. It’s a headache for the residents, but absolutely worth it sometimes.

Pilfer · 17/10/2025 17:24

AutumnCosy2025 · 17/10/2025 11:58

I think that's a bit harsh.

my friend is a taxi driver. He lives in a 'social housing' house and doesn't have a drive - can't afford to buy & no SH houses were available with driveways.

his wife works, their kids go school locally. They can't just up & move elsewhere.

its just a car - and his only one.

what would you like him to do??

the guy across the road annoys me though. They have a big driveway, plenty of space, but he parks his work huge van (ling wheel base) (self employed) on the (what was) grass outside our houses.

Edited

what would you like him to do??

That does sound hard, probably to vary where he parks a bit.

Most down our street se to be skodas or minibus type ones. Then they have a nicer car for their car, wife tends to have the mum wagon 7 seater. No hate there ours is a 7 seater. Sometimes a banger as well I assume for the future learner or maybe just a spare car.

There is one house that has multiple taxis so the skoda 5 seater then the minibus plus the others. Maybe more people want taxis here 😅. Even the ice cream van houses seem to have more than one ice cream van but only use one obviously as like you say can’t drive two at once.

I hate verge parking. It’s actually a offence where we live but try getting the wardens out when someone’s actually doing it. Zero chance.

Buy a lemon, SORN it and park it there?

£2,500 fine for that .

themerchentofvenus · 17/10/2025 18:14

@Ereerenownow I'd start by leaving a poor business review stating that you hope he works with more care and attention than he does dumping all his work vehicles on residential streets so the neighbours can't park and that you wouldn't employ someone who was so inconsiderate.

LemonJellyLegs · 17/10/2025 19:32

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:22

Thanks we did talk about this but we all go out to work roughly the same time unfortunately so it's difficult for someone's cars to be there all the time x

I would buy an old banger taxed and MOT'd and just leave it parked there. I would do it too

Just tax it. Its worth the pennies it would cost

Our estate is the same but built in 1998. Worth checking your Deeds. Tell your neighbours to check theirs as not all Deeds on an estate are the same.

MeridianB · 18/10/2025 08:10

Speak to your council parking team and report every time his industrial vehicles get parked there, especially on footpaths. As PP said industrial vehicles are often not allowed to park on residential streets.

Contact your local councillor, local MP. You can email them with photos and ask for help. Get them to come and look at the problem, Good luck!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/10/2025 08:17

Is this not anti social behaviour?

OK, I do see that.
But it doesn't help OP, which was the point of the thread.

Not every post on a thread has to help the OP. It's not how conversation works.

YANBU but I doubt there’s anything you can do.
