Neighbour parking issues..again

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:07

Had ongoing issues with neighbours inconsiderate parking. Just as that seems to have resolved, we now have ANOTHER knob head parker. This guy doesn't live on our estate but has started parking his huge van and trailer on the road into our street. He also has 2 cars and a jeep which he said he parks in our neighbourhood as its safer than where he lives several streets away. I totally get this but he is taking up all the parking spaces in our little area and it's causing real issues. Now he said he is going to start parking his other huge industrial vehicle with a trailer on the road at the side of our house for at least 6 months. It's a monstrosity and it'll be there all over Christmas and new year when we have friends and family visiting. I am devastated, we worked hard to move into our little estate and now it looks like a shit hole. I know he isn't doing anything illegal but im still gutted...myself and another neighbour estimated that he is taking up 11 parking spaces. Am I just being a dick to be upset by this?

I’d be shocked at how every single one of these these vehicles managed to get a flat tire overnight 🤷🏼‍♀️ (a ballpoint pen does the trick)

Haha too many cctv cameras round here..which is probably why he wants to park here!! X

It would be a shame if a load of bird seed were to fall on the roof of his car when he does park it there.

Ask someone from elsewhere to come over and go along the street one night with a hoody & cap on then leave?

Ok that’s a bit extreme perhaps but I feel their behaviour deserves consequences. Classic example of how one bloody man feels entitled to cause inconvenience and stress to others in order to avoid him putting up with the shit situation he’s caused in the first place.

markopolo2002 · 17/10/2025 11:26

Essentially he's taking the p*ss and knows it. If someone is operating a business and causing issues for residents, there are some options available to councils and I would explore them fully. It does depend on how the council interpret his actions and his business but generally someone running a business cannot simply cause a residential area to be in a disadvantaged state which is an advantage to his business.

Councils can act under The Environmental Protection Act 1990 (nuisance or business use in residential areas) and/or planning laws (if they’re operating a trade from home).

DonewhatIcando · 17/10/2025 11:27

The trouble with turning a street into residents only parking is some councils charge.
My Dfriend had her street turned to residents only (walking distance to town and train station) one car per household received a free permit, 2nd cars or visitor permits were £360 per year.
I agree with pps to speak to your council or local councillor first

Inertia · 17/10/2025 11:27

Speak to your local councillor- there may well be local regulations about parking commercial vehicles on the street.

JohnofWessex · 17/10/2025 11:29

If they are Commercial then The Traffic Commissioners might get involved

outdooryone · 17/10/2025 11:48

If it is a business then name and shame if/when he does block all 11 spaces. The local press love a nice 'angry of Middle Row' picture and tale and 'we reached out to the business, but they did not respond' type response...

Your area is 'safer' he says? Hmmm........ Areas can change.

They can can't they & sometimes literally overnight

Goalpace · 17/10/2025 11:57

I know someone who face similar, and they ended up buying a very cheap banger between them and a few neighbours and parking it there. They decided they would rather look at a clapped out Fiesta than a lorry all the time.

BettysRoasties · 17/10/2025 10:39

That sucks. I get it’s legal but it shouldn’t be to clutter up streets with work vehicles.

Id totally ban lorry’s/vans/taxis/pick ups and minibuses from being allowed permanently parked on residential streets. Driveways/ car parks and actual business’s premises only.

We had tow trucks, ice cream vans, mini busses, dozens of taxis and vans all constantly parked down the street and the they all have their personal cars feel like I live in a carpark some times and we all have drives but they have too many vehicles.

sorry for my rambling moan.

Hire a skip and get it places right in the middle of where he would park the lorry. 😅

I think that's a bit harsh.

my friend is a taxi driver. He lives in a 'social housing' house and doesn't have a drive - can't afford to buy & no SH houses were available with driveways.

his wife works, their kids go school locally. They can't just up & move elsewhere.

its just a car - and his only one.

what would you like him to do??

the guy across the road annoys me though. They have a big driveway, plenty of space, but he parks his work huge van (ling wheel base) (self employed) on the (what was) grass outside our houses.

I'm always surprised by how many people say this, but surely that's not going to bother the owner if they're just going to park them up and leave them in situ.

Infact quite the opposite, an excuse to say they can't move the vehicle due to having a flat tyre and no way to remove wheel/inflate it to hand.

I'd ask your local councillor for advice, more helpful if it's a combined neighbour inquiry.

suburburban · 17/10/2025 12:07

If it’s a huge lorry is it allowed to be parked on a residential street?

he is really cheeky in the first place

A tyre left completely flat on a vehicle for many months will often render the tyre significantly damaged and in need of replacement.

Not voting for or against doing it but it will cost the owner a small fortune to replace that many tyres.

Edited

Your friend it would suck for I get that. I haven’t actually met a taxi driver that doesn’t also have a personal car.

I do think though if you run a business and that business has vehicles then parking those should be taken into consideration. In his case it’s his daily car and work car so a bit different and it’s not additional vehicles.

We had 6 dpd vans parking up every night for a week just lining the street like we lived in the depot. Two tow trucks fill the lay-by every day and I do mean in the day so not being used just sitting there.

Abitofalark · 17/10/2025 12:26

You can apply to the Council for changes to parking, waiting or loading arrangements if they're causing a problem around your own property or neighbourhood.

There's a process for the council to follow and probably public consultation.
Where I live, every so often the council publishes a list of these changes to parking, waiting and loading arrangements at specific named residences and locations.

Get together with affected neighbours to work out some ideas of what you would propose to resolve the problem and then go to the council.

Blueuggboots · 17/10/2025 12:46

Buy an old banger and put it there to stop him!!

I know this is funny but its classed as tampering with a motor vehicle and you could be prosecuted

Maybe drop a bag of nails 😂

JohnofWessex · 17/10/2025 13:36

Thinking about it.......

Prince Charming has decided to do something that will get the neighbours up in arms.

This means that all the 'enforcement' people, Planning, Police, Traffic Commissioner etc will start to look at his business.

There are it seems quite a lot of rules around 'Light Commercials' that he could come unstuck on to say nothing of Planning.

The mans a genius! ie stereotype small business/farmer

Hayfield123 · 17/10/2025 14:08

see if you can borrow a trailer off somebody and park it there. You’re allowed to leave them in the road and then move it when you know he’s found somewhere else to park his large vehicle

Erinsborough · 17/10/2025 14:12

Visit to b&q for some nails or something similar sharp, its so frustrating when you buy something like that and the bag bursts on the road maybe he might get a puncture maybe he might not. Honestly we have a similar gripe with parking in our estate and it makes me so bloody angry. Hope you manage to get it sorted.

SapphOhNo · 17/10/2025 14:19

Wouldn't it be awful if the area suddenly became less safe. Oh no... someone slashed the tyres and put paintstripper all over them.

Nov902 · 17/10/2025 14:38

If he is running a business which requires him to need to park up 11 different vehicles and a bloody trailer he needs a proper work space/yard to do so.

Absolutely contact your councillor and get other neighbours to do so and provide as much info on this person as possible. I can’t see how they can say it’s fine. He’s essentially running a business from a domestic property with inadequate outside space to run such business.

MikeRafone · 17/10/2025 14:39

Park your car there in the middle of where they park, and don’t move until another car can take your place

BuildbyNumbere · 17/10/2025 14:42

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:22

Thanks we did talk about this but we all go out to work roughly the same time unfortunately so it's difficult for someone's cars to be there all the time x

Club together and buy an old banger to stick there.
