Neighbour parking issues..again

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:07

Had ongoing issues with neighbours inconsiderate parking. Just as that seems to have resolved, we now have ANOTHER knob head parker. This guy doesn't live on our estate but has started parking his huge van and trailer on the road into our street. He also has 2 cars and a jeep which he said he parks in our neighbourhood as its safer than where he lives several streets away. I totally get this but he is taking up all the parking spaces in our little area and it's causing real issues. Now he said he is going to start parking his other huge industrial vehicle with a trailer on the road at the side of our house for at least 6 months. It's a monstrosity and it'll be there all over Christmas and new year when we have friends and family visiting. I am devastated, we worked hard to move into our little estate and now it looks like a shit hole. I know he isn't doing anything illegal but im still gutted...myself and another neighbour estimated that he is taking up 11 parking spaces. Am I just being a dick to be upset by this?

If he’s parking huge works vehicles there then complain to the council.

user1471538283 · 17/10/2025 14:44

You all need to tell him he cannot park at all on your street. And then tell your MP and councillor. Surely having industrial vehicles makes it unsafe for children and the elderly.

He's trying it on. Paying for a yard to keep them in is expensive. He can park in his own street

GasPanic · 17/10/2025 14:49

The problem is parking is getting out of control in many places and is affecting peoples quality of life.

It is another way in which increasing the population of the country affects everyone. The more people, the more vehicles and the more vehicles the less space is available for them leading to arguments, aggravation and even crimes being committed.

It's hard to come up with some rules though regarding parking and what people are and aren't allowed to do with commercial vehicles that aren't going to affect some people unfairly.

MyDeftDuck · 17/10/2025 14:57

Club together with the neighbours and buy a couple of old bangers to park on the area he intends to use……..as long as they’re taxed, insured and have an MOT there’s nowt he can do about it.

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 15:00

Thanks for the responses everyone, much appreciated. Its so frustrating as him and his family of 4 bought a house several streets away with no parking spaces at all knowing that he has all these vehicles. His son will be coming up to driving age soon so that'll be more vehicles parked in our little area. So angry that he's causing so much stress and anger in our little community and he doesn't give a shit as he's probably making loads of money.

So who has he told this to , that he plans to dump his behemoth vehicle in your road for six months.
Would that person say to him " No you bloody well aren't doing that Barry, that is a selfish dick-move"
He probably thinks he can just crack on as no one has said anything ( pay my vehicle excise tax, you don't own the road blah blah)

Bananaandmangosmoothie · 17/10/2025 15:03

That really is inconsiderable. Is there not a local Facebook page to shame him on?

He actually shouted it at me as he was driving off in his van (which was actually parked on the footpath, blocking the whole access at the time)..and I haven't seen him since but he has the whole estates nearby on edge cos we don't know when this ginormous vehicle is going to land

One space - annoying but whatever
11 spaces?! That’s very annoying

Wadadli · 17/10/2025 15:05

Ereerenownow · 17/10/2025 10:20

I'm in and out all day and I don't know when he's going to bring it to our area. I know him a little bit and know he'll wait until we're not in to park it

Club together and hire a 16yd skip and cover it with a tarpaulin.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/10/2025 15:06

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 17/10/2025 13:19

I know this is funny but its classed as tampering with a motor vehicle and you could be prosecuted

Maybe drop a bag of nails 😂

I don't see bags of nails as an option, you cannot guarantee that some innocent driver won't pick one up . Expensive, annoying and potentially dangerous.

Bird seed otoh . Act of God is his car gets shit on. Bird seed never hurts tyres. Ok , the bird Pooh could damage his paint but he's running that risk by leaving it static.
I parked my car legally and considerately at my parents. It was under a tree. No bird seed but my car looked like Mr Bobby after 24 hours. I had to jet wash it more than once

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/10/2025 15:08

A lot of residential areas round here have residents only parking for an hour or two a day, mostly to stop commuter parking though. I’d get you and some neighbours together to speak to your local councillor to see what they can suggest.

Easilyforgotten · 17/10/2025 15:11

I understand what you're saying about people being out in and out during the day, but surely it wouldn't take many well spaced cars to effectively stop a monster trust getting parked?

Iwantmyoldnameback · 17/10/2025 15:15

We have a similar issue nearby, sadly the bloke is definitely well connected to the local council.

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 17/10/2025 15:29

Studyunder · 17/10/2025 11:15

I’d be shocked at how every single one of these these vehicles managed to get a flat tire overnight 🤷🏼‍♀️ (a ballpoint pen does the trick)

Two words:

Ring doorbell.

Or another word:

dashcam

Henesseyus · 17/10/2025 15:41

Big girl pants, OP. He’s entitled to park where he wants unfortunately.

Nocookiesforme · 17/10/2025 15:42

We had this issue with a man who lived a few roads away who has a delivery franchise (one of the well known ones) with about 10 transit vans. The drivers would arrive each morning take a van and leave their own car in the space to save it for their return later.
We complained to him for months and he then moved his van parking to a small carpark a few roads up and took up all but 2 of the spaces there so that people visiting the shops there had nowhere to park.
In the end we took it up with the parish council and borough council who sent him a cease & desist letter. He was then publicly shamed in the council newsletter when he ignored it. At that point he was told that the council would introduce parking bylaws to stop him if he didn't find somewhere for his vans to go and he did end up renting hardstanding at a nearby farm.
The council went ahead and put in parking limitations because a local car dealership decided to use the shop parking as well and now we're all happy.

You probably need to contact your local councillors to bring it to their attention pointing out that road parking is not for commercial vehicles or to facilitate private businesses and that roads, pavements and verges are going to be severely damaged - case in point with the person's previous parking arrangements.
The other consideration is how much the road is being narrowed and whether that's a safety issue - can an ambulance or fire unit get down the roads unimpeded with large commercial vehicles parked there? Is it near a school, aged living or high family housing density?
Can you and your neighbours club together to buy an old car and park it in the space near your home that the CF has his eyes on? Who owns this land? Can it be bought or fenced off by the owner? All things to have a look at.

PGmicstand · 17/10/2025 15:48

AutumnCosy2025 · 17/10/2025 11:58

I think that's a bit harsh.

my friend is a taxi driver. He lives in a 'social housing' house and doesn't have a drive - can't afford to buy & no SH houses were available with driveways.

his wife works, their kids go school locally. They can't just up & move elsewhere.

its just a car - and his only one.

what would you like him to do??

the guy across the road annoys me though. They have a big driveway, plenty of space, but he parks his work huge van (ling wheel base) (self employed) on the (what was) grass outside our houses.

Edited

In the OP it's not just one car, it's a number of vehicles. And not parked on the street the owner lives in.

LilacReader · 17/10/2025 15:51

There are a lot of rules it seems on large commercial vehicles over 2.5 tonnes incl. having parking lights on overnight, not within 10 meters of a junction and facing direction of traffic. If he does park, just keep making complaints until you have a whole list of them - hopefully that will help.
I know what it's like as we have a right knob on our close. Unfortunately not business use. He doesn't use his drive and parks his car, girlfriends car and large motorhome nicely spaced so no-one else can park. I have no idea what to do 'YET' but as they say, revenge is a dish best served cold!!!

chattyness · 17/10/2025 16:13

Never mind bird seed, some nice chunks of white bread will attract crows and seagulls their poop is the worst, it's messy and smells like rotten fish too.
in Scotland you get fined for parking on the footpath is he doing that a lot? If so see if you can find a parking inspector who would be delighted to ticket him every day.

momtoboys · 17/10/2025 16:17

This situation would drive me mental. It just doesn't seems fair.

DabOfPistachio · 17/10/2025 16:23

No advice, OP but a lot of sympathy. We have similar in my street. There's a garage two streets up who uses our residential street as their own personal parking lot. He buys old junkers, presumably for parts, and leaves them on the street for months at a time. There's not a lot of parking round here so it drives the residents mad, especially if you have to park your one car ages away because he's got ten dumped on the street!
Unfortunately, as long as theyre taxed and MOTd, there's not much that can be done. Very selfish behaviour though!

defrazzled · 17/10/2025 16:24

We had this, I got a second hand trailer and packed it with the kids outdoor stuff - as if it was a shed, tarped it and left it there. Easy to move when friends arrive and need the space but big enough to take 2 spaces if badly parked the rest of the time. It was £120 off ebay.

Purplerain869 · 17/10/2025 16:24

If you’re on a new build estate is your estate council adopted or under your management company? Also also of these estates have regulations about commercial vehicles being parked.

If he leave a vehicle blocking the pavement - then you report this to the police if the vehicle has an engine - if its a trailer or caravan without an engine then report to council. Don't let either council or police tell you it's the other authority in a way of fobbing you off. Better still put it in writing by email and say "if a person is hurt in walking around the vehicle on the pavement" " as its very dangerous" As this pre empts a crash that then the police should have taken action..
