What’s for dinner AND is it from a packet/box?

Be honest!

These threads usually attract replies from busy mums saying ‘aubergine orzo with lemon chicken’ and I think ‘from scratch, at 5pm, with 2 hungry kids??’

Please let me know!

No box here, cottage pie from scratch just gone in, steamed asparagus to have with it.

Tomorrow will be veggie lasagne from the freezer, but I made it from scratch a fortnight ago.

A packet of curry from Iguana and adding coconut milk, frozen sliced peppers, fresh chicken pieces and a diced onion. Serving it with microwave packet jasmine rice. First time I'm trying it.

Flat mushrooms stuffed with breadcrumbs, garlic and cheese, with salad leaves and lots of cucumber. Followed by a fresh cream choux bun and a cup of tea. Mainly courtesy of Tesco’s, I just had to take it out the packets and put the mushrooms in the oven for half an hour. Being lazy as only me home.

Got some chicken breasts out of the freezer, did some mash and carrots to go with them; the freezer also contributed frozen peas and frozen yorkshire puddings. Made some gravy to go with the mash.
Best of all someone else is clearing up!

Rice, chicken and courgette with Korean bbq sauce. Sauce came from a packet. Everything just thrown into the frying pan. I had made a roast chicken earlier this week, so I'm using up the leftovers. Also had some (homemade) plum cobbler for dessert. Had to use up the plums...and it's half term here, so I was home.

DS was meant to have dinner at the birthday party he went to. He didn't, so had a reheated kebab box with chips.

Sausage mash and broccoli. Sausage are Aldi 🤤

QueenClinomania · 15/10/2025 19:28

I had a (micro)chip butty and a bottle of water while lying in bed browsing mn and reddit and watching futurama.

Queen of multitasking.

Spinach and feta quiche, home made but with bought pastry, baked potatoes, sweetcorn and peas

LovesToWalk · 15/10/2025 19:31

Teens - spaghetti and meatballs left over from Monday
Me and DH - Spag bol - (I think it’s Bol, it might be chilli but I can’t see kidney beans or peppers so 🤞) from the freezer.

It was meant to be salmon, but apparently everyone was ‘too busy’ to cook, but I walked in the door less than half an hour ago so they can KMA. In case you hadn’t guessed, it’s a bit of a sore subject at the moment.

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/10/2025 19:31

I put chicken breasts, Carolina mustard bbq seasoning and a load of veg in the slow cooker this morning so had shredded chicken with salad for dinner.

Took about 1 minute to empty the pack of chicken and packets of sliced veg into the cooker this morning then about 3 minutes to shrewd the chicken up and put it on a plate with bagged salad. Technically a home cooked meal, and definitely healthy but incredibly easy and low effort.

Home made toad in the hole, home made chips, frozen vegetables, bistro.

Skimama123 · 15/10/2025 19:34

DH is cooking a meal from a Gousto box. I’m not entirely sure what it is as he’s just text asking if I want mash or naan with it. I have some questions about what goes with both?! 😂

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/10/2025 19:34

Jacket potato, cottage cheese, red onion, brown onion, spring onion, bit of pecorino on top.

Autumnincoming25 · 15/10/2025 19:35

Roast chicken on a Weds

Thesummer · 15/10/2025 19:36

Homemade pizzas loaded with veg and pepperoni. Usually make our own bases with yoghurt and flour but we had some yellow sticker garlic flatbreads that needed using so used them as a base instead.

Just used passata with lots of dried mixed herbs as a sauce for the pizza, not sure if that counts as a sauce 'from scratch' or a packet job, as passata is literally just sieved tomatoes. I stopped using actual jar sauces a long time ago when I realised how much sugar they all have.

Farmwifefarmlife · 15/10/2025 19:38

Sausage & mash + veg

BrunchBarBandit · 15/10/2025 19:41

I was late home from work so had a pre- made-batch cooked chilli and rice from the freezer. DH did him and DS2 dinner from fridge (pork chop, rice, veg) and DS1 will be home later and will have pizza from freezer.

It’s not usually so fragmented but today was a logistical challenge

Magicmushroomsauce · 15/10/2025 19:41

Jacket potato beans and cheese. So yummy!

Blappengrap · 15/10/2025 19:43

We literally don't have packets or boxes in the cupboard (except cereal) we always cook. Tonight the kids had something quick though, pasta and pesto with cheese. Husband will cook for us later.
But nothing we cook takes longer than half an hour, so I don't think we cook fancy, we just don't use boxed stuff.

BellissimoGecko · 15/10/2025 19:44

Cannellini, chorizo and pepper stew with rice. Made from scratch (but very easy).

BitterSweetBirthday · 15/10/2025 19:44

Bolognese made from scratch last week but taken out of the freezer this morning. I boiled the pasta to go with it.

Thesquaregiraffe · 15/10/2025 19:46

Chilli and rice. I had a jar of sauce but decided to make it from scratch at the last minute - my son was pleased with the effort and there’s enough left for the freezer which will make a quick meal another night. I’m feeling quite pleased with myself this evening 😁

Surroundedbyfools · 15/10/2025 19:46

So many nice sounding dinners here !!

im having chicken mash and veg. Cooked the chicken myself. M&S fancy micro mash ! For me I’d consider it a home made dinner !

SoEasyToFallInLove · 15/10/2025 19:47

Cottage pie, meal prepped from the freezer
