What’s for dinner AND is it from a packet/box?

Be honest!

These threads usually attract replies from busy mums saying ‘aubergine orzo with lemon chicken’ and I think ‘from scratch, at 5pm, with 2 hungry kids??’

Please let me know!

Tofu and veg stir fry. Tofu is marinading as we speak, about to get it all together.
Noodles are from a packet, rest is prepped by me.

And tomorrow night will be ready made stuffing from last Christmas, carrot and swede mash out of a tub and baked beans.

I feel sick just reading that lol.

Prawn curry for three of us. That is from scratch but it is from a cookbook of specifically minimal effort recipes. My youngest won’t eat it so she’s got paneer butter masala. That is technically also from scratch but I make it in bulk and freeze in portions for her so it’s not from scratch today. To be honest, I used to cook a lot more but this is actually a more unusual night for us now. I’m just too busy and too tired.

@ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine what’s the name of that cookbook please? My energy and motivation has been low lately.

Takeaways all round tonight! DS birthday treat and he picked Five Guys so he and DD are having that, DP is having KFC and I’m having a Chinese takeaway.

TubeScreamer · 15/10/2025 18:44

Chicken casserole with mash and dumplings, all home made.
It’s very rare that I have a weeknight evening in, so it was nice to make a bit of an effort.

bollockyness · 15/10/2025 18:45

Chunky fish fingers, from frozen.

Lastandfirst · 15/10/2025 18:46

MoonBugs · 15/10/2025 18:49

Talipesmum · 15/10/2025 18:50

Salmon curry - jars of korma sauce, with some added veg and the salmon and frozen spinach. And rice.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 15/10/2025 18:50

Mac and cheese. Made the sauce from scratch.

pastapestoparmesan · 15/10/2025 18:51

Fish pie. The puff pastry came out of a box.

Dweetfidilove · 15/10/2025 18:51

Salmon, white rice and broccoli.
An hour from scratch.

Pineconesandterracotta · 15/10/2025 18:51

Loving all this dinner inspiration! We def do a mixture of shove in the oven and cook from scratch. Tonight was a very quick cook from scratch prawn and salmon pasta in a creamy lemon butter sauce with peas and broccoli. First time making it and totally clean plates all round.

Tarkan · 15/10/2025 18:53

I’ve been at Pilates tonight so I grabbed a pre-made chicken Caesar salad from Morrisons on my way home. I was slightly regretting my choice walking past all the different takeaways near my house on my way home as they all smelled amazing. I stuck to my salad though LOL.

DC are feeding themselves with whatever DD brings home from work when she finishes. DH starts work soon so he just grabs microwave meals on his way if we don’t have any leftovers in the house to take.

FluffytheGoldfish · 15/10/2025 18:54

Eldest Dd was going to do her seasoned chicken and chips tonight but has come home from work with a migraine so DH (our usual cook) will do her and other Dd sausage and chips when she is well enough to eat.
DH and I are having ready meals as they need eaten up. ATM we are prioritising visiting my DParents every evening for care reasons so food from scratch is a luxury. Hence keeping ready meals in the fridge to cut down on takeaways.

justjuggling · 15/10/2025 18:54

Cottage pie, no packets involved!

Bimblebombles · 15/10/2025 18:55

Duck breasts with oven chips and gravy plus a bag of stir fry veg - random one tonight

Favouritefruits · 15/10/2025 18:56

Stir fry, rice (from a microwave packet) and chicken Kyiv (definitely not homemade)

stargirl1701 · 15/10/2025 18:56

Lentil soup, crusty bread and a sticky toffee pudding from the local farm shop.
