Be honest!

These threads usually attract replies from busy mums saying ‘aubergine orzo with lemon chicken’ and I think ‘from scratch, at 5pm, with 2 hungry kids??’

Please let me know!

Macaroni cheese with crispy bacon from scratch

But we all had breaded chicken with salad and oven chips last night so balance!!

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 15/10/2025 18:10

Meatballs, spaghetti, jar of sauce, mushrooms and onions.

Home made steak pie with sausages, shop bought puff pastry, home made mash, carrots and frozen peas. Home made apple and bramble crumble for pudding.

Oh my god this sounds amazing

Holluschickie · 15/10/2025 18:11

Eggplant parmesan.

mbosnz · 15/10/2025 18:12

Teriyaki salmon and vege stirfry, with udon noodles, and yes, from scratch. I'm lucky to have a husband that actually finds cooking enjoyable and relaxing, bless him!

Jacket potato and cheese. I am exerting myself to cook this from scratch.
Just add a load of butter and coleslaw and it would be a perfect tea! I quite fancy that now instead of my lentil.soup!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/10/2025 18:16

You’ve caught me out!

Tonight we’ve had supermarket pizza (pizza express ones because they were half price) with a side of carrots.

Very unfair as I do normally cook from scratch - I can because mine are secondary aged - but today I’ve been at work 1.5 hours away delivering training so I’m knackered.

To be fair though it is lovely when the kids can just get home before you and it doesn’t matter at all.

thisishowloween · 15/10/2025 18:17

I have no idea yet, but lunch was leftover pizza eaten cold, straight from the box, followed by some Morrisons trifle Grin

Runhomejack · 15/10/2025 18:17

Bag of chippy chips, with home roasted salmon fillets and salad. Perhaps an odd mix but proper treat for me, my favourite foods and minimal effort. So boxed/wrapped and technically home cooked as well.

WhatICallMyUsername · 15/10/2025 18:17

I am starting with a cold and DH is out so DS and I have just had our usual tea when DH isn’t here. Chicken nuggets, cheesy hash browns, tortilla wraps, served with cheese, mayo and sweet chilli sauce, I could not care less right now 🤧

Ohthatsabitshit · 15/10/2025 18:18

Steak and chip shop chips and green beans.

jill5676 · 15/10/2025 18:18

Lentil Bolognese - frozen soffrito mix, a pouch of puy lentils, tinned tomatoes and herbs. 20 mins from start to finish.

That sounds good, would you share the recipe?

I would also like to know please!

Made beef cheek and red wine stew in slow cooker this morning. Just popped a suet pastry on and waiting for it to come out. We got home at about 5.40 after a full day in the office and two separate pick ups. Should be able to start eating about 6.25

marriednotdead · 15/10/2025 18:20

Stir fry- freshly cooked rice, leftover roast chicken and frozen mixed veg.

thebeautifulsky · 15/10/2025 18:20

Couscous with some chopped dates and apricots. Chicken, green beans, onion, peppers. I gave the chicken and veg a rub with Moroccan spices before pan frying. We've just eaten it and it was surprisingly tasty considering I just raided the fridge for sorry looking vegetables.

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 15/10/2025 18:21

Pasta with tuna butter and cheese

Stir fry- freshly cooked rice, leftover roast chicken and frozen mixed veg.

Did you use any sauces etc?

OP posts:
zingally · 15/10/2025 18:21

Burgers from the freezer, potato slices from the fresh prepared veg section, and fresh green beans.

BananasFoster · 15/10/2025 18:23

Wednesday is beige night for us always. So frozen chips, fish fingers from the fish section of the supermarket and peas.

Buxusmortus · 15/10/2025 18:23

Sausages from Sainsbury's, roasted honey carrots, jacket potato, shallots and mushrooms fried and then a bit of cream added to make a sauce, followed by a slice of homemade victoria sponge and probably an apple from my own tree, so all from scratch( apart from sausages obviously- do many people make their own sausages?)

BurntBroccoli · 15/10/2025 18:23

Pre-made by me yesterday jacket spud, tuna and sweetcorn mayo topping with side salad and homemade dressing.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 15/10/2025 18:24

Prawn curry for three of us. That is from scratch but it is from a cookbook of specifically minimal effort recipes. My youngest won’t eat it so she’s got paneer butter masala. That is technically also from scratch but I make it in bulk and freeze in portions for her so it’s not from scratch today. To be honest, I used to cook a lot more but this is actually a more unusual night for us now. I’m just too busy and too tired.

chloeriver · 15/10/2025 18:24

Salmon, spicy sweet potato wedges ( home made), cous cous (from a box), roasted veg and chick peas, last night was a fish fingers sandwich

autumn2025 · 15/10/2025 18:25

Chicken drumsticks marinated in lemon and tyme with coconut rice and carrots, peas and sweetcorn.
