Be honest!

These threads usually attract replies from busy mums saying ‘aubergine orzo with lemon chicken’ and I think ‘from scratch, at 5pm, with 2 hungry kids??’

Please let me know!

KFC,so from out of a bucket.

SmoothCollie · 15/10/2025 18:26

Bolognese, made from scratch but from my freezer. I cook when I can be arsed and freeze a lot, I don't like to eat UPF and don't have the time or inclination to cook a full meal everyday.

RobertaFirmino · 15/10/2025 18:28

Just chilli con carne with rice for me. Batch cooked from scratch (I even grew the chillies myself) and taken out of the freezer this morning.

Londonmummy66 · 15/10/2025 18:29

Beef and lentil hotpot. Technically made from scratch but I have some beef stew left from the other night and the potatoes for the top are left over from yesterday. I'll add lentils as not enough beef - they will be from a tin though.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/10/2025 18:29

Bacon fried rice made from scratch

This is really sneering. People can cook from scratch even at 5:00pm. We’re having sheet pan roasted salmon and broccoli tonight. It takes about 20 minutes. I’ll use leftover couscous as the carb base.

Ddakji · 15/10/2025 18:31

You have unleashed people using the phrase “from scr*tch” so YABU for that, OP. Just say “homemade”!

Tonight we had a leftover homemade veggie tagine thingy with couscous.

Next meal with be a supermarket quiche with mash and some kind of veg.

It’s a complete mishmash of homemade and not here, DD doesn’t really like my cooking 🤣 and often I just can’t be bothered. Cooking for her as sucked the joy out of cooking for 15 years 🤣🤣🤣.

I like cooking for me and DH.

daddysgirlnot · 15/10/2025 18:31

Chicken curry made with Mayflower curry.

Everythingthatmatters · 15/10/2025 18:32

Honey glazed salmon with mash broccoli and peas. Sounds fancy but takes about 15 minutes

Wizardpumpkin · 15/10/2025 18:32

Leftover slow cooker chilli. I didn't make the guacamole myself though 😂

NeverCouldGetTheHangOfThursdays · 15/10/2025 18:34

I made roasted pumpkin soup yesterday so I'm having that and DH is having beef casserole (made from scratch and frozen in portions) with new potatoes and veg.

I think this is possibly the first time on one of these threads that I've been able to say we're having food I've cooked from scratch 😂

Redpeach · 15/10/2025 18:35

Ooh, I need to get a slow cooker, any recommendations?

I think OP was just trying to be lighthearted Hmm

Tofu and vegetable stir fry. All cooked from scratch including the sauce. We really don’t eat any ultra processed food.
we’re retired and so are not time poor when it comes to preparing food, our grandchildren and their parents all also eat as we do and they are much more time poor.

TheFluffiestCat · 15/10/2025 18:37

DH and I are having Aldi spinach and cheese lattices, DD’s having Quorn nuggets and instant noodles, and we’re all having broccoli and sweetcorn. We’ve had ‘from scratch’ meals since Sunday, and today DD’s been knocked flying by a bigger kid and is mostly made of plasters, so I’m happy for her to have the crappy noodles that only come out once in a blue moon. Tomorrow, shock horror, we’re going to the chip shop on the way home from a meeting at school. I’m not working Friday so will probably make a curry.

itsgettingweird · 15/10/2025 18:37

Jacket potato.

not sure you can do
anything but make that from scratch but I’m also pretty sure I wouldn’t class it as cooking from scratch either 🤣

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 15/10/2025 18:37

Home made dark chocolate and banana bread. Can't be arsed with proper dinner.

2025mustbebetter · 15/10/2025 18:38

I just had tempura chicken (fresh packet), rice (boil in the bag), peas (frozen) and katsu sauce (fresh pouch).

Pretty standard for me but Fridays are for ready meals.

Tbh if I was feeding just me I'd have microwave rice and sardines 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some of our meals are scratch but easy /inauthentic recipes and some involve jars etc. I could cook a curry but someone else has done it for me in a jar so....

I don't buy bolognese sauce or white sauce as they're so quick to make and taste better. That doesn't mean I'd never use it though!

Dropko · 15/10/2025 18:39

“Homemade” sausage roll using shop bought pastry and a pile of microwaved veg with gravy. 5 minutes worth of effort and very comforting. I feel like Martha Stewart when I pull that out of the oven

mamagogo1 · 15/10/2025 18:40

Pesto from jar with pasta, fresh veggies stir fried

Hatty65 · 15/10/2025 18:40

I put pork, veg and spices in the slow cooker first thing, so we've just eaten that with pasta. I don't really cook from packets, but I don't faff if I've been at work. You can cook something fresh in 30 mins generally.

Poonu · 15/10/2025 18:40

Chicken in a roast bag, spinach, tender stem vn

MaplePumpkin · 15/10/2025 18:41

Chicken and chorizo done in the slow cooker with Passata, lots of paprika, peppers and onions. Served with rice, sour cream and grated cheese!

TheDandyLion · 15/10/2025 18:41

Chilli - mince, onions, garlic, tomatoes, chilli powder, black beans, spices etc.
Potato wedges - potatoes, spices and veg oil.

PeonyPatch · 15/10/2025 18:41

Tonight, teriyaki salmon (fresh salmon fillets with a teriyaki marinade I poured over it), egg noodles (dried from packet) and soy and garlic roasted tender stem broccoli. It’s actually fairly quick and simple, delicious and lots of protein x
