Things you wouldn't admit to in real life

Light hearted. I dislike my mum's boyfriend. I am sick of his constant grunting when i ask him a question. It is like he is incapable of saying yes or no to a simple question. He is a terrible bus driver. He drives like he is on a race track.

Have you considered that your kids might want to look at it again? Or how they might feel when you realise you didn’t give enough of a shit to keep any of it? Or is it all about what you want?
Extraordinarily selfish of you. Horrible.

For the record, I was trying to be kind to you and show you a situation where parents do love their children despite the fact they are not keeping their childhood mementos. I was hoping you could find some solace in that fact for yourself. Instead you called me selfish and horrible. Well done. Continue feeling sorry for yourself, you don't sound bitter at all. No need to respond to me further.

then surely she is a just a member of the same group as you and not any kind of friend let alone a close one?

We used to be very close. But she hurt my feelings over and over and over again to the point where I just lost all affection for her.

Being in her company leaves me quite distressed for a couple of days afterwards. I don't know if she's oblivious to the fact that she constantly hurts my feelings or if she does it deliberately and doesn't care.

People think im mute because i stopped talking at 6 years old.
I just stopped talking full stop.
I can talk im not mute but everyone around me thinks i am mute.
The things ive learned about people i can read the room and people before they even open there mouths.

This is really interesting. I wonder if you would consider doing an AMA?

I'm wondering how you avoid phone calls, or asking for things in shops. I'd think it would make life difficult / restricted.

But most of all, why?

beanbaggirs · 15/10/2025 15:54

@NetZeroZealot It's my opinion, normally the most beautiful people aren't the skinniest ones.

People think I’ve got a habit of not thinking before I open my mouth and say something tactless. Well actually, I’m saying it because I’m sick of your bullshit and I want to shut you up. It’s not accidental.

I deliberately low-key annoy my two teammates by telling those rambly all over all-over-the-place stories, you know, the ones that go like this:

'Funny story!, I met him in Harrods, oh no wait, it was in Primark and said Hi and he said....- actually...wait a sec, you know what it was, it was in Marks and Spencer, Oh yes I remember now, because they have those jeans, the ones with the great turnups - anyway....'

It drives them spare, and I have built a solid reputation that if you start talking to me, you will never get away.

I am not like that at all in real life - but it means someone will only approach me if they absolutely have to, and I am left in peace.

I don't know about ESA, I don't get that as I work full time, but I also get full PIP despite having similar considerable assets.
It isn't means tested so there are probably large numbers of people in this position.

Wouldn’t admit it IRL though

Oh my gosh me too! It does me in. I hate them. Such a faff. I had a loss recently and my house was full of them and I couldn’t wait to throw them out. I felt so guilty that large expensive bouquets kept arriving. I’d far rather have a plant or something for the garden. The only flowers I buy myself in Spring is daffodils as they are joyous.

Someone I know recently lost her husband & specifically said I have masses of flowers but only 2 vases & it was stressing her out.
I suggested that if folk wanted to send something a Just Eat Voucher would be welcome in case she didn't feel like cooking.

I use sign language.
My life is not or ever been restricted.
Why well i was told to shut up i did just that.

TeenToTwenties · 15/10/2025 16:04

@muteme Thank you. Do you ever speak when alone? Or sing?

I fancy Vladimir Putin.

Ew I’d be definitely keeping that one to myself. 😱

TwinklyStork · 14/10/2025 23:17

I think David Bowie was overrated.

Not even sorry.

It's The Beatles for me.

They were good and I enjoyed some of their songs, but I don't get why everyone thinks they were the absolute dog's bollocks. There have been plenty of bands just as good and many that are/were much better, in my opinion.

Also, that Diana, the late Princess of Wales was not a great beauty. She was a ordinarily good looking young woman who scrubbed up quite nicely as any ordinarily good looking might if she had enough money. However, even with shitloads of money her hair never looked anything other than awful.

I understand childless people who go for surrogacy but I hate the thought of a child conceived for payment. Since I read about two men who raped a baby to death I want to start a campaign against gay men adopting . Not bothered about gay men but I’ve never heard of lesbians killing a child though there may be. I live in a very “ liberal” city.

Lesbians have killed a child. Google Jennifer and Sarah Hart.

I don’t like receiving flowers. I’ve never told anyone, as lots of people have bought them for me over the years and it’s a very kind gesture. But I don’t like them.

I love flowers but my whole life I’ve received the same bunch of purple and white supermarket flowers over and over again from my ex DP and my now-DP and now my DS is turning up with them on birthdays and Mother’s Day! 😩

TheShyMumX · 15/10/2025 16:15

My partner is white and he very seriously asked me once why all my Jamaican ‘aunties’ chose to go to the supermarket on a weekend and get in the way and make our shop so much longer as we always bump into them! he is absolutely not wrong these aunties know what they are doing and enjoy it😂

TattooStan · 15/10/2025 16:16

I think my good friend is fucking up her child's life, having pursued an autism diagnosis for the child and now heavily leaning in to the fact the child is autistic, and arranging special treatment in every situation they're in.
The child may have been diagnosed according to modern criteria, but is an ordinary kid. A bit introverted, and a bit shy, but otherwise totally "normal".
The child now won't stand a chance in the world, being told "You're going to struggle with this situation you're about to face because youre different".

Loubelou71 · 15/10/2025 16:23

Anotherdayanotherpound · 15/10/2025 06:53

I feel the same. Have persuaded most of the adults in my family to stop doing the unwanted present swap at Christmas!

I hate having to think of ideas for other people and get worried I'm a terrible gift giver. I'd love to not have to buy from that perspective.

Shocking that you think you know better than the child psychiatrist that assessed your “good friend”’s child

DRose3 · 15/10/2025 16:25

I had an undiagnosed under active thyroid which meant I gained 20kgs gradually despite exercising and watching what I ate. Over the course of 2+ years. Had multiple issues like weakness and joint issues which meant I kept getting injuries while exercising too, the doctors said everything was normal. Finally, a private specialist flagged my low thyroid levels.

Haven’t managed to get back down to my previous size 8/10 body, and been struggling as a size 14/16. Having a baby and entering my 40s haven’t helped. Never been fat, or struggled with my weight previously.

Thin privilege is real.

Daisy12Maisie · 15/10/2025 16:25

I would love to live with a partner so they could help with the bills and help me when things break. That sounds sexist because if I had a male partner why would they know how to fix things when I don’t. I just mean having another person to help to share the stress. So if they wanted to cook and clear up that night then I could ring around finding the plumber/ electrician/ handy person to fix whatever it is.
I am absolutely fed up of being a “strong woman” which just means struggling all the time on my own. I have a full time managerial job plus I run my own business. When things break in my house there is no time in my schedule/ no head space to sort it out. I want a helpful boyfriend who I live with to help me with practical tasks. I don’t want equality where I can date someone and pay for 50% of dates but ultimately be 100% responsible for my house, bills and broken things. I want my life to be easier if I have a boyfriend jot harder as I’m still doing everything but also trying to find the time to date.

Sounds like you are very very far from “close friends” with this person!

I get £13k a year in ESA and PIP but have assets of over a million pounds.

Think this one vindicates @UncharteredWaterspoint

Daisy12Maisie · 15/10/2025 16:27

I agree with the present giving as well. I would love to give to my mum and children plus my little nieces and no one else. Not possible as I have a godchild I feel pressurised into buying for even though I never get to see her. I have managed to cut a couple of people off the list this year though.

DRose3 · 15/10/2025 16:28

We do family Christmas lists within a budget which prevents unwanted tat & keeps spending reasonable. Different items at different price points. Works to reference for bdays too & gives you an idea of what people actually like and want, even if it is smtg one might consider boring.
