I'd melt at that temperature!

So just out of interest if you were in a room with complete independent control of the temperature, and no sun coming in to confuse things, what would you set the thermostat to to be comfortable?

HScully · 12/10/2025 20:22

Not yet, I'm in the north, it was 4 degrees this morning. But I was warm enough in bed and just make sure I wear appropriate clothes.

Currently the thermostat says 16.5c Im fine in pyjamas and a dressing gown.

tripleginandtonic · 12/10/2025 20:23

No, hoping to get to the end of October if the weather stays mild

BetteButler · 12/10/2025 20:24

Yes

Same, I'd have a splitting headache.

Crochetandtea · 12/10/2025 20:24

Heating not on the automatic timer but I have had it on for the odd hour here and there We have been lighting the fire every evening for last week or so.

YourWinter · 12/10/2025 20:25

No, and it’s unlikely to go on for at least a month if not more. I’ve literally only just shut the door to the garden, which has been wide open since 0800 as it was still and dry.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/10/2025 20:25

I put it on for 10 mins Ystd, I’m in a new build and the house is currently 21 degrees so it’s not needed yet.

LittleCarrot12 · 12/10/2025 20:25

Had it on twice to help dry washing. I’m not really cold although I’ve looked out my throws .

FurForksSake · 12/10/2025 20:26

I’d feel ill at 22, ours is set to come on twice a day at 18.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 12/10/2025 20:26

Living room currently at 23 Ne Scotland..so no heating on yet.

IncessantNameChanger · 12/10/2025 20:27

Put it on last night for 45 minutes just to check it's not completely smudged up. We have problems with it every year. I'm sure the system and boiler is old as the house. Until it's hots 16 it will be off most of the time. It's too expensive and that makes me sad as my parents was much worse off than me but we was warm as kids. I can't keep my kids warm. But that's partly my fault for buying this house. Lovely house. Shit heating. Micro bore pipes cemented into the floor and gas pipe to small to the boiler to change to a combi. Never mind.

My heating is set to 17 when I turn it on. That's my perfect indoor temperature. In the winter months it'll often get down to 12 indoors during the day when I'm working from home. I'm ok at that temperature but thats when the fingerless gloves come out. I hate central heating. It feels stuffy and heavy. I much prefer cooler, fresh air.

IPutASpellOnYou · 12/10/2025 20:28

No not yet, I’m on the South coast and it isn’t cold here.

Garamousalata · 12/10/2025 20:29

Absolutely not! It’s not cold enough yet.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/10/2025 20:29

No. Haven't used the central heating for years.

ViciousCurrentBun · 12/10/2025 20:31

Yes first time today, this evening from about 30 mins ago.

Teenagerantruns · 12/10/2025 20:31

Put it on this evening, im cold, l have enough credit not to worry, life's to short to be cold.

ReignOfError · 12/10/2025 20:32

Mine’s set to 18 for 45 minutes in the morning and an hour in the evening, 16 during the day, and 5 overnight. It’s clicked on the last few mornings and evenings. I do have my bedroom and bathroom windows open all the time, and the back door and downstairs windows open for some of the day.

Growlybear83 · 12/10/2025 20:53

i live in London and we’ve had our heating on since mid September. It’s usually set at 23 degrees but I’ve turned it down a bit for now until it gets colder. I’ve also turned it off at lunchtime a few days.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 12/10/2025 20:56

No. I have an old cold house, oil CH (oil needs a top up).

Weve had the fire lit. The warm pjs are out, and the winder bedding (brushed cotton or fleece for the kids) i may have had a hot water bottle. But no heating yet.

Farmwifefarmlife · 12/10/2025 20:56

GreyCloudsLooming · 12/10/2025 19:58

No, it’s not particularly cold.

I agree

Wyeh · 12/10/2025 20:56

Yes, it’s been on quite a bit over the last couple of months, clicks in automatically when temperature gets below 18 but I’ve bumped it up a few times too through some of the cold stormy summer weather we had.

PeonyPatch · 12/10/2025 20:57

No. It’s not cold. Based in Kent.

TheatricalLife · 12/10/2025 21:00

Not the central heating, but we have got the open fire lit tonight. It's not really cold, just nippy outside. Has warmed up the house nicely.
