Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

Have I mentioned anything about his race 🤔 NO!! Please don't try and throw that shit out. I said ut because I believe he is a very shitty person and a God awful Mayor

Yep. I get that. Why do you think that? What has he done or not done?

How about in Greater London?

But of course why should he give a shit about us. We don’t vote for him.

The congestion charge is a tax on the poor. If you’re rich enough it’s fine to pollute apparently but if not fuck you.
and if you live in Greater London there’s no tubes and public transport is not great.

There is no Congestion charge in "Greater" (presume you mean Outer) London and many parts of Inner London. The boundary is Euston Road, Park Lane, Vauxhall Bridge, A3204 and Tower Bridge.

Which you would know if you actually live in London

@Everythingwillbeokeventually44 All he sees in Tommy Robinson and not the everyday hardworking Brits from all walks of life & faiths who are worried for the future of this country.

What about the everyday hardworking Brits from all walks of life & faiths who are worried for the future of this country but think that London specifically is fortunate to have a mayor who's doing a pretty good job on the whole, despite facing government cuts to London funding and the generalised hatred ranged against him by people who, amongst other things, seem to think that he should be solving problems that are nothing to do with the Mayor of London?

He shouldn't be sorting problems out of his jurisdiction, he should however work on the ones he has.

I'm mot stating some people don't like him but many, many others don't. It's a difference of opinion and I am entitled to mine as much as you are entitled to yours.

Nothing. He is an absolute disaster. Totally ineffective and thick as mince. But the far left love him so they’ll defend him on this thread.

And all the londoners who vote for him

Yes certainly, I have watched many debates he's partaken in and one specifically stands out which is a debate with Susan Hall, she was asking completely appropriate questions and he just laughed and was belitting her as he's done with other woman. His behaviour makes it look as though he thinks woman are beneath him.

He is constantly bleating on about protests about migration and the devision of the country, the treatment of the police. He only ever refers to these protests though baring in mind there were 25 arrests at 13th September protests, 890 and Palestine action protest and although not a protest there were 423 arrests at Notting Hill Carnival but he fails to mention the latter two. He also shuts people down completely when anyone mentions the rise in crime in London especially knife crime. He is in denial that the country & the capital are in a rapid decline. Even Mexican citizens have been advised not to travel to the UK.

He condemns any normal British person who has genuine concerns about the current state of the country. Everyone has a right to protest and express their concerns about things that are important to them and one group should not be singled out. People are raising very valid concerns and just get called racist of fascist and it's disgraceful. All he sees in Tommy Robinson and not the everyday hardworking Brits from all walks of life & faiths who are worried for the future of this country.

Susan Hall? The woman who has repeatedly used racist tropes? Called Khan the “nipple high mayor of Londonistan?” Implied that Khan was a supporter of FGM? That Susan Hall? I don’t think he thinks women are beneath him-I think he thinks Susan Hall is beneath him.

literally no idea where all these Khan lovers are coming from. Pretty much everyone in Greater London thinks he’s awful.
If Greater London was split from Inner (which it should be) he would never win in the outer parts as he is always trounced by the conservatives (despite most of their candidates being utterly useless)
And it’s because of things like this-
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/sadiq-khan-budget-city-hall-met-police-tube-mayoral-election-susan-hall-b1133141.html

he absolutely hates women and there are numerous videos of him in the assembly speaking to them like shit.

You realise that Inner London is part of Greater London and contains the bulk of the population? Do you mean the outer boroughs?

I didn't for an instant suggest you're not entitled to it as I am entitled to mine.

But our individual opinions, though important, matter less than the sum of the opinions expressed as votes. And by that measure, he's doing pretty well.

On mumsnet yes where many people with an opinion can't vote for him. Overall though, will he be voted in again? I hope personally hope not.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/10/2025 08:27

@Gymrabbit outer and inner London combine to make Greater London.

If you all hate being part of London so much, then organise a vote to rejoin the various home counties.

God no, we don't want them! Imagine having Croydon or Merton or Sutton back. We were well shot of them in 1965.

Redpeach · 09/10/2025 09:54

Curlewcurfew · 09/10/2025 08:42

This is the only thing we dislike about him, here: the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street means a lot of traffic and congestikn for residents (in the side streets) and makes it harder to get anywhere, e.g. my elderly parents can't get the bus to hospital appointnents without difficulty. The air quality has been something we've been desperate about, the pollution was horrific and killing us and nobody seemed to care.

Otherwise, well, nearly everyone I know votes for him.and is very happy about the drastic change in air quality (my asthma has pretty much vanished), free school meals and affordable are obviously essential. His integrity is refreshing and also his bravery – coping with the death threats must be traumatic.

I have only heard negative things about him wrt Oxford Street local residents.

I assume the hatred you see online is mainly racism.

Isn t part of the reasoning that it reduces over all traffic in the area, much like LTNs have done in other oarts of london. And isn't the local hospital UCLH, a stones throw away

No, not on Mumsnet - at the polls.

I hope he will get voted in again. You don't. That's the mechanism for us to express our preference.

However, I'm just pointing out that the proportion of for-and-against implied by your "some like him, many many don't" observation was not seen to be the case the last three times that it was put to an objective test.

Also Susan Hall who went on tv claiming to have been mugged on the crime-ridden tube to try to slate SK. Even when it was proven that she was lying through her teeth and had simply dropped her Oyster card our of her pocket..and it had promptly been returned to her, she doubled down and insisted she'd been mugged.
Loathsome woman.

Sadiq is hated in London, only on here is he revered. Free school meals?! No, that was cross party policy. London’s property market is crashing, investors are deserting London and the trains are constantly cancelled due to suicides and strikes. Apart from that it is all going swimmingly.

Sadiq is hated in your small london bubble you mean?, time to expand your horizons

CurlewKate · 09/10/2025 10:04

@GymrabbitIf there are numerous videos of him treating women like shit, why do we only ever see his run-ins with Susan Hall?

JillyJoy · 09/10/2025 10:06

Surely most of the improvements to air quality are due to engine technology in newer vehicles and the loss of old polluting ones. Especially the old bus and black cab engines that were in use up to about 2018. When my diesel car, 8 years old, is tested it gives results that are only just measurable.
School meals; easy to be popular handing out meal vouchers.

London is really lucky to have the congestion zone. The last few times I’ve visited, the air has been much improved and the reduction in traffic in some residential areas is great. It gives the areas a lovely atmosphere.

I with we could have something similar in my city which has had illegal levels of air pollution too but the car people just loose their minds whenever a scheme is set up to improve things.
