What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

I do a mini fry up so quail egg, cocktail sausages, cherry tomatoes, button mushrooms, cut the streaky bacon small and hash brown bites/ mini waffles, its fun and not too filling xx

SALaw · 08/10/2025 20:53

Bacon rolls and scrambled egg rolls

Jk987 · 08/10/2025 21:01

Croissants with cheese, warm and melted. Serve with cucumber. Not too sweet and won’t make you feel stuffed like a fry up would.

Mueslikid · 08/10/2025 21:03

We do a Continental-style breakfast and everyone helps themselves.
Hot rolls, croissants. Big panettone dusted with icing sugar and cut into wedges as a centrepiece.
Cheese, sometimes smoked salmon and cold meats if it’s a big group.
Fresh fruit or fruit salad, dried/crystallised fruit, nuts
Jam, Nutella, butter etc
Granola, variety packets of cereal.
Yoghurt
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, milk.

It doesn’t take much effort as most is cold, you just have to heat the rolls and croissants in the oven, but it looks like a big spread and everyone can find something they like, and have as much or as little as they like.

pizzaHeart · 08/10/2025 21:04

We do porridge with blueberries or any other fruits, orange juice and usual tea/ coffee.

@Ponderingwindow could you share your casserole recipe please? It sounds really interesting.

MsSmartShoes · 08/10/2025 21:05

Make Smoked salmon pate and serve with crusty bread.
mini pastries

tedibear · 08/10/2025 21:14

Nothing special as dinner is the main event! So usually just a roll and bacon or roll and sausage. Maybe toast and bacon if no rolls.

Sturmundcalm · 08/10/2025 21:18

we vary but often do breakfast rolls - whatever combo people want of square sausage, bacon, fried eggs and potato scone (so obvs the veggies are on the latter stuff!).

i do sometimes do pain au chocolat but the problem is that if we're going sweet most of us would rather just cut to the chase and have christmas chocolate with a cuppa...

Toast with turkey dripping and salt.

definitely not posh 😁

BeaTwix · 08/10/2025 21:26

Poached or scrambled eggs.

828Pax · 08/10/2025 21:28

Always smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and Buck's Fizz!

nam3c4ang3 · 08/10/2025 21:29

We have cinnamon rolls, Buck’s Fizz and champagne.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 08/10/2025 21:30

Sliced brioche with scrambled eggs and avocado, smoked salmon for the fish eaters, or brioche French toast with berries.

DappledThings · 08/10/2025 21:33

Nothing particular. There's plenty going on foodwise later in the day. If anyone can really be arsed having a special breakfast too they can make it themselves.

WeNeedToTalkAboutIT · 08/10/2025 21:36

I'm team salmon, eggs and avocado on toast. Get some nice sourdough, make Guac the night before, poach eggs and stick toast on once enough people are up, happy days. Even vegans should be happy with avocado on toast!

Leapintothelightning · 08/10/2025 21:36

Bacon and/or sausage rolls!
tea/coffee and Buck’s Fizz. We are simple creatures!

Winter42 · 08/10/2025 21:37

We always have bagels with smoked salmon, creme cheese and dill and bucks fizz. My husband usually makes the bagels a couple.of days before. They freeze well.

MuddyPawsIndoors · 08/10/2025 21:46

gingercat02 · 08/10/2025 20:38

Once your kids are teens, breakfast is no longer 7am, I think a glass of fizz at 11am is fine.

My youngest is 22 😁

VikingLady · 08/10/2025 21:54

We do those bake your own croissants (Jus Rol) and add chocolate or honey to the middle, and have them with smoked salmon and scrambled egg with cream for those with the internal capacity for it. And coffee.

Back pre menopause when I could still stomach alcohol, we’d also have Buck’s Fizz and/or Irish coffee.

Londonrach1 · 08/10/2025 21:55

Croissant and chocolate du pain....

DingDongJingle · 08/10/2025 21:58

Screamingabdabz · 08/10/2025 18:10

Jeez I’m a fatty big eater but how on earth do you all eat that rich breakfast AND a full Christmas dinner a few hours later? I just can’t reconcile the MN size 6 mentality and what is on this thread at all!!

Well, you’re assuming that everyone eats Christmas dinner ‘a few hours later’. We eat in the evening on Christmas Day, starting around 6pm (usually finish around 9pm). So we have a good breakfast to see us though. Usually Eggs Benedict with champagne.

Katflapkit · 08/10/2025 22:06

Frozen waffles, lay on a film shelf heat up in the oven, then serve with a selection of sweet/savoury topping.

Fruit compote - frozen berries warmed up with icing sugar so it thickens plus clotted cream.

Maple syrup/clotted cream

Scrambled egg, smoked salmon, bacon.

Good orange juice, coffee, champagne of you are going fancy

DingDongJingle · 08/10/2025 22:06

Zov · 08/10/2025 18:33

This. ^ Smoked salmon, bagels, bucks fizz, sourdough, croissants with cheese and honey, and pork pies - for breakfast! 😖Do people really eat this stuff for breakfast?!

Christmas day or not, I still have a bowl of cereal, or a yogurt and a banana. And no, I'm not a bloody teeny tiny. I just don't have a big breakfast.

And yes, I would never be able to eat my Christmas turkey meal a few hours later if I ate all of that for breakfast!

Some of the 'Christmas breakfasts' on this thread are wild! Shock Who drinks bucks fizz for breakfast?! Batshit!

We also don’t have ‘Christmas turkey’. Not everyone does! And I’m perfectly happy drinking Buck’s Fizz for breakfast 😁. That’s when it’s supposed to be drunk.

I just have my usual breakfast - multiple coffees spread throughout the morning.

We have Christmas Dinner at lunchtime (around 1.30/2pm) and then will have dessert a couple of hours later and then a sandwich & chocolates later in the evening.

It’s a day of eating to be honest….

The kids will eat chocolate if hungry in the morning. It’s the one morning it’s acceptable. But if they need something more substantial there is plenty to choose from.
