What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

Bagels or pancakes with range of toppings

hattie43 · 08/10/2025 22:28

Here we have breakfast about 9am . sourdough, smoked salmon , scrambled eggs washed down with champagne. Dogs have pigs in blankets .
mum then does horses , I take the dogs for a good run on the beach . We meet back and Christmas dinner is served about 2pm .
desert / cheeseboard usually comes out around 7pm .

I would very much like the recipe please!

it will be tomorrow morning.. time difference here...will tag you with it

FluffMagnet · 08/10/2025 22:31

Smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis. Massive plate, everyone helps themselves. We never want anything huge given lunch will be massive. Also, there are always chocolates on the go from first thing, because it's Christmas!

Janie934 · 08/10/2025 22:35

panettone
pandoro
fruit salad
pigs in blankets

in past years we've done croissants or pain au chocolate (the frozen ones that you bake at home)

SheSpeaks · 08/10/2025 22:40

We don’t have breakfast on Christmas Day, or lunch, because it’s a feast day. Same as Sundays, just one big long dinner and dessert later in the day.

AngularMerkin · 08/10/2025 22:43

We have croissants - smoked salmon and whipped cream cheese for the savoury then I put out jams and chocolate hazelnut spread (or pistachio cream) for sweet. In your shoes I’d sautee some mushrooms or cherry tomatoes with a bit of garlic and rosemary to go with the croissants and cream cheese for the vegetarians.

Is it just Christmas that a lot of people start on the booze at breakfast, or do you do it for birthdays etc?

Depends really. Sometimes for a birthday with friends we’ll go out for a champagne breakfast/brunch. Probably doesn’t happen more than 3-4 times a year. Why do you ask?

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 22:47

See also the airport. One of the only places it’s acceptable to have a pint or a large g&t at 7am on any day of the year.

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/10/2025 22:47

I do eggs Benedict and bucks fizz for Christmas day breakfast.

CalmFox · 08/10/2025 22:53

Wonder what Mary ate in the stable🤔

I'm just curious.

I didn't realise how many people do it.

longtompot · 08/10/2025 22:53

We have scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, cream cheese and toasted muffins with Buck's Fizz and just plain fizz

Baby cheeses.

Cluelessasacucumber · 08/10/2025 23:05

We mix it up each year as long as it's a bit special. But if I'm feeding a crowd id just down a really good, proper hotel style continental. Pastries, coffee, juice, cereal selection, lovely yogurt, posh farm shop bread or rolls warmed up, selection of fancy spreads, fruit salad, continental cheeses, boiled eggs, salad veg, maybe some olives or antipasti, continental meats for non veggies. Minimal cooking, it's just getting preprepared stuff out and people can nibble at as much or as little as they want but it still feels like a treat

Cantbleedingcope · 08/10/2025 23:19

Cordee · 08/10/2025 17:51

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Could you not make the scrambled eggs a bit posh on their own? Reserving the smoked salmon for the non veggies. Use thicky sliced rustic bread, a dollop of crème fraiche and a little bit of chopped chives? Covers both veggies and non veggies then

Seems a good savoury option and easy to do alongside your proposed cinnamon buns and fruit

We do pretty much the same with eggs - plain scrambled eggs for some, smoked salmon for me DP and DD then with bacon for the rest

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 23:22

Mary had a sushi boat, seven types of soft cheese and a pint of communion wine.

Avie29 · 08/10/2025 20:53

I do a mini fry up so quail egg, cocktail sausages, cherry tomatoes, button mushrooms, cut the streaky bacon small and hash brown bites/ mini waffles, its fun and not too filling xx

That is flippin' adorable!

ThankGodItsAutumn · 08/10/2025 23:56

I do cinnamon swirls and pain au choc with fruit, coffee and Buck's Fizz. Used to do smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toasted brioche.

i think your suggestion sounds good, maybe add some bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese?

Endorewitch · 09/10/2025 17:48

S.oked salmon and scrambled eghs. Delicious but wont spoil lu c. And croiiants.

snowynight · 09/10/2025 17:48

Eggs Benedict - delicious and veggie, although potentially a bit of a faff if you've got a big crowd.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 09/10/2025 17:54

Croissants, bacon, jam, fruit, Buck’s Fizz and tea/coffee

AlleycatMarie · 09/10/2025 17:55

Always do smoked salmon, scrambled egg, with toast or bagel and Buck’s Fizz!
