What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

If you’ve not a sweet tooth why do that? I’d buy really nice quality Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with lovely bread and avocado. Maybe roast some tomatoes you could have pastries alongside.

My mum - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with blinis and Greek yoghurt. Plus Buck’s Fizz.

My dad - poached eggs on English muffins with Ceasars.

The in laws - Toast with marmalade and a cuppa.

Mine - Poached pears done in cinnamon and all spice with brown sugar. Mine with Greek yoghurt, DH with cream. Plus a coffee and sparkling apple juice.

Smoked bacon sandwiches or alternatively served in a hot croissant with side of scrambled eggs. Washed down with bottle of bucks fizz.
DC have the above with chocolate coins for "Christmas breakfast pudding" washed down with a pot of tea between them or glass of milk.

Similar to a pp, I've made the full fry, the pastry selection, the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, but the one that is hoovered up every time is the easiest.

A savoury bread and butter pudding using garlic bread. I fry up the filling/topping the night before which can be any old thing like sausage meat, white and black puddings crumbled, finely chopped mushrooms and onions, crispy bacon and whatever else you like. Add to the garlic bread in the dish on the day, top with egg and milk/cream mix, leave to soak for a little while, top with grated mature cheddar, into oven and allow to cool slightly when ready. Carve into portions and serve it with a side of baked beans and a dish of different breads to mop it up. Yes more bread I know, but our dinners are at 5pm.

Wow!! This sounds delicious...might be a little to heavy for our family as a breakfast as we have dinner around 1 , will definitely be trying this another time thankyou!

We have bucks fizz, juice, croissants and pancakes.

AhBiscuits · 08/10/2025 20:30

Smoked salmon, bagels, soft cheese, champagne.

ThankYouNigel · 08/10/2025 20:32

We have toasted bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon and lemon juice. It’s quick to prepare but it feels like a real treat. We have a glass of Buck’s Fizz with it, again which is a treat at breakfast time! 🥂

Selection box

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/10/2025 20:35

Champagne for breakfast, Christmas dinner at 4pm, bed by 7pm

ohgolly72 · 08/10/2025 20:36

Salmon, cream cheese bagels for the adults. Chocolate chip pancakes for the kids. Loads of coffee and loads of chocolate.

Whichone2024 · 08/10/2025 20:36

Buck’s Fizz, mini bread rolls (the ones you buy part baked), scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, lime & capers

MuddyPawsIndoors · 08/10/2025 19:11

I'm rather partial to a drink but I just couldn't face drinking alcohol at breakfast 😁🤮

Once your kids are teens, breakfast is no longer 7am, I think a glass of fizz at 11am is fine.

Katherineryan1986 · 08/10/2025 20:39

Scrambled or poached egg with avocado and smoked salmon on toast all washed down with Bucks Fizz.

Blarn · 08/10/2025 20:39

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 20:10

@Blarn it wouldn’t be mumsnet without a suggestion of a massive salad! 😆 You can make them really indulgent with avocado AND feta or adding a dressing. Brussels sprouts make fantastic salads. 😆😆😆

A salad like that would be very welcome at some point over Christmas, whe you reac the point where you can't face another sandwich filled with leftover mest and cheese. But not Christmas morning!

MidnightPatrol · 08/10/2025 20:40

Bagels, salmon and fresh fruit.

You don’t want anything really heavy when eating all day.

SemmaLina · 08/10/2025 20:40

Home baked croissant selection ( the bag of frozen ready to bake from the supermarket )
Nice jam ( Bonne Maman )
fresh OJ ( out of a bottle , usually Tesco do a nice one with bits )
Coffee ( for me ) Tea ( for DH )

Starters for lunch ( will start the wine then )

Christmas dinner at about 5 pm

HollyGolightly4 · 08/10/2025 20:42

Cordee · 08/10/2025 17:51

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Bagels with cream cheese and cucumber instead

Salmon for non veggies

Lacto free Philly available too!

LizzyEm · 08/10/2025 20:42

We have the Christmas eve ham with bread, piccalilli etc for brunch.

Bourneo · 08/10/2025 20:43

Croissants and strawberries

nonevernotever · 08/10/2025 20:44

Citrus and ginger fruit salad (grapefruit, orange, Clementine slices with stem ginger, some of the syrup and a dash of orange flower water) . If I've got other people coming I'll bake some of those frozen croissants and offer those with a selection of things like butter, sliced cheese, smoked salmon , cream cheese, jam etc. But we eat Christmas dinner at lunchtime so we're quite happy not having a huge meal

Nothankyov · 08/10/2025 20:45

We do smoked salmon with fig chutney and cream cheese and chives, poached eggs with hollandaise, sourdough toast, avocado. And to wash it down some champagne. Preferably rose but can also be normal for those who like a mimosa!

Carzycat · 08/10/2025 20:48

I enjoy croissants with smoked cheese and ham. Ex liked smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, vegan DD went for smashed avocado on toast. DS - chocolate 😊

Kendodd · 08/10/2025 20:49

We have a big fruit salad in a trifle bowl, yogurt, home made granola and pastries with fruit juices and coffee.

AxolotlEars · 08/10/2025 20:52

Porridge made with milk and topped with cream and soft brown sugar.... my favourite
Cinnamon rolls
Tropical fruit salad
Summer porridge (like over night oats)
Ham and cheese croissants ...made up and frozen
Monkey bread...no bananas involved 🙂
Bacon sandwiches/croissants....bacon cooked in oven
Just cereal 🙂
Any of the above! I try to avoid intense cooking for breakfast

Cinaferna · 08/10/2025 20:53

We do smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, buck's fizz with freshly squeezed OJ and if anyone wants something lighter, a really good Greek yoghurt with fresh berries and honey. If people are hungry I might bake some cinnamon buns or warm some croissants too but usually bagels are enough.

Edited to add - I do scrambled eggs with fresh cream and chives for the vegetarians.
