What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

We normally do porridge and freshly baked croissants but we have Christmas dinner at 6pm and a lunch in between, for something more substantial I’d do super buttery scrambled eggs on posh bread with bacon for meat eaters and roasted tomatoes for veggies. Could do some grilled halloumi if you wanted.

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Replace smoked salmon with avocado? Or brie and cranberry sauce?

Kedgeree could be nice too

Jewelledslice · 08/10/2025 19:59

My Mum and I always have smoked salmon; scrambled eggs and avocado

My first husband and I always had bacon sandwiches

My forever husband and I have a fry up 😂

Do duck eggs taste different @LarryIsMyRomanEmpire ? I’ve always been curious. This could be our Boxing Day breakfast.

They're richer, but I don't think there's a noticeable taste difference @LadyRoughDiamond

Bacon and eggs. Plus nice bread toast.

Sunshineandblueskysalltheway · 08/10/2025 20:01

Scrambled eggs on toast with plenty of salted butter and grated black truffle.

Incredible and quite easy to do for a group.

momtoboys · 08/10/2025 20:03

This sounds grand!

NotQuiteUsual · 08/10/2025 20:04

Chocolate is the breakfast of choice here. Usually Lindors. We buy a massive pick and mix of them for Christmas.

Blarn · 08/10/2025 20:06

Could you just do a couple of big salads?

If someone invited me round for a Christmas brunch and then served a couple of big salads I'd turn around and leave. And eat my buttered croissants at home.

Peridoteage · 08/10/2025 20:07

Smoked salmon or proscuitto, scrambled eggs, bagels, washed down with champagne.

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 20:10

@Blarn it wouldn’t be mumsnet without a suggestion of a massive salad! 😆 You can make them really indulgent with avocado AND feta or adding a dressing. Brussels sprouts make fantastic salads. 😆😆😆

Toadetta · 08/10/2025 20:11

Crossaints and orange juice. Maybe some chocolate coins.

Haha my thoughts exactly when I read it . Who the hell wants Brussel sprout and root vegetable salad for breakfast .

A bagel board?

Love this idea! You’ve inspired me and I found this list of ideas: pick a couple and you’ve got a lovely breakfast!

  • Peanut butter + apple slices + chopped chocolate
  • Chocolate-hazelnut spread + raspberries + crumbled goat cheese + glazed pecans
  • Plain cream cheese + smoked salmon/lox + red onion slices + capers
  • Hummus + sliced turkey + avocado slices + tomato slices
  • Walnut & honey cream cheese + sliced prosciutto + chopped walnuts
  • Grainy mustard + hard-boiled eggs + chicken salad
  • Strawberry cream cheese + sliced strawberries + chopped chocolate
  • Scallion cream cheese + sliced prosciutto + chopped arugula
  • Scallion cream cheese + bacon + tomato slices + chopped arugula

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Would veggies be ok with a pile of steamed spinach with poached eggs

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:50

Could you just do a couple of big salads? One fruit and one a winter salad with Brussels sprouts, pomegranate and roasted root veg and some really good leaves? Eat it mid morning as a brunch. You could do some poached eggs or crispy bacon on the top and some roasted sour dough.

No, no, no, no, no.

NO!

Eggs avoca, basically poached eggs, sliced avocado instead of salmon and your sauce

JaceLancs · 08/10/2025 20:19

Nothing here - we are all usually too stuffed from Xmas Eve family meal - so coffee only and then the odd chocolate whilst opening presents
Xmas lunch is 2pm and we don’t really have a drink till 1ish when I’m doing the final bits of food
We only have a starter and the main course and then have a pudding around 7.30 before piling into the alcohol

Smoked salmon with poached eggs. Washed down with Bucks Fizz. The ‘Bucks’ element optional!

Same but scrambled not poached.

JaceLancs · 08/10/2025 20:21

It might all sound very restrained but we are not a meat n 2/3 veg family - more like 3 meat options, 3-4 side dishes and 6-7 veg dishes

Thissickbeat · 08/10/2025 20:22

Same thing we have every day. Oats for me and cereal for the DC's. Then I have a run.
I've never hosted and have enough to do making roast so don't want a fiddly breakfast.

66babe · 08/10/2025 20:22

I do salmon and scrambled egg with some nice toast for about 9-10 ?
Dinner won’t be till about 4- 5 ?

RunningNananananananananana · 08/10/2025 20:23

Selection box and Quality Street. Glass of Bucks Fizz. ooh and a Baileys.

reelcat · 08/10/2025 20:23

Chocolate! Christmas and Easter are the only days we do it but I love it as much as the kids!

Iwantanapnow · 08/10/2025 20:23

Melon and parma ham
