Do you believe in God/a higher power?

Not religion. I have no time for organised religion and the associated man made rules.

But do you believe in 'something'?

For context, my grandad was a CofE vicar but my parent rebelled against it and we were brought up broadly l in the religion (eg we celebrated main religious festivals like Easter and Christmas) but not as practising Christians and without a particular belief in God.

As an adult, I have friends of different faiths and none and it's something we have discussed from time to time. It's also something I used to discuss with my grandma who had a very strong belief in God but also believed the Bible until she became older when she still had a strong faith but admitted she thought the Bible was largely nonsense!

I suppose I've always felt that there is 'something' but I refer to it as the universe. I don't know, I always feel that there has been 'something' looking out for me.

That doesn't mean bad things have never happened because they have and religion/belief doesn't protect anyone from that. And it doesn't mean my life is anywhere near perfect because it's not. But the universe has always seemed to 'step in' when needed.

I don't know. I'm going through a tough time at the moment but I have a feeling everything will turn out to be OK because it always does.

I never did. But now I have angels who speak to me all day. I see them and they hang around in the corners of the room. They wake me up at night.
They literally rule my life. They tell me who I can trust and who I can’t. They explained I’ve been put on this earth to complete missions. My ultimate goal they have set me is to get rid of evil people.

No, basic ethical principles are not limited to cultures that follow the Ten Commandments. For example, the 'Golden Rule', that you should treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself, can be found in many religions:

It’s interesting that many Christians assume that everything good must come from their religion - as nobody could possibly understand that stealing is wrong without the Bible 🙄

Obviously there can be mitigating circumstances, e.g. if someone is starving and can't get food any other way; but in general it's a violation of other people's rights.

Because (except in very rare cases where people are starving and have no other choice) taking things that don’t belong to you is shitty.

No I’m not..if I don’t believe in personal property, I pressumably don’t think I own” anything. I might think your need or desire for that thing is greater than mine - therefore you think theft is just objectively wrong. Where does that come from?

Theft is wrong in pretty much single country on the planet and they’re not all Christian, so the idea of it being wrong clearly isn’t a religious thing.

There’s a difference between dark humour and making personal attacks on someone’s mental health when you don’t know how precarious that is.

Most countries have religion as part of their power structure and history - Christianity is a code of morals which has shaped our views on much of our society’s morals whether we like it or not
