To be utterly disgusted by the woman cutting down yellow ribbons commemorating the October 7th victims in Muswell Hill yesterday morning

When Jewish people are being attacked and murdered on their way to synagogue on Yom Kippur

When you literally can’t move or look in any direction without Palestine Palestine Palestine in our faces

On the eve of the anniversary of the worst atrocity committed against Jewish people since the Holocaust, a small, unobtrusive memorial for the victims of that unthinkable, barbaric attack was destroyed yesterday by a despicable woman who turned up with scissors and cut the ribbons down, one by one.

Ribbons for women and girls who were raped and murdered.
Ribbons for babies ripped from their parents’ arms and slaughtered.
Ribbons for men beaten to death.
Ribbons for the hostages still suffering every moment.

And this disgusting individual took it upon herself to come along with a pair of scissors and cut each one away. Her excuse? They “condone genocide”.

Let’s not pretend for a moment that that was her true motivation. It was a revolting demonstration of the antisemitism that has become so shamefully rife in this country that it sickens me.

This woman needs to be named and shamed for the loathsome person she is.

The OP doesn’t condemn the Israeli government anywhere in any of her posts, so it’s fair to assume she feels the murder of tens of thousands of children is justified. I don’t know how anyone can see the news from Gaza without crying unless they’ve completely dehumanized the victims.

No, it’s not fair to assume that at all. It is a huge, unjustifiable stretch - and it's not the topic of this thread anyway, so it is ridiculous to condemn someone for not saying it.

This thread was supposed to be about the disgusting action of the woman who removed ribbons commemorating the raped, abducted and murdered victims of the atrocity three years ago. Whatever has happened since then does not make their rape, torture, murder or abduction any less appalling or worthy of commemoration.

Nestingbirds · 07/10/2025 12:27

I am anti war. I can’t bear to see the death and destruction which is why I am supporting the peace plan. To save lives on both sides.

I wonder why the protesters aren’t calling for this plan to be supported? Because they don’t want peace that’s why. They want Israel to be eradicated, they won’t settle for anything less, it’s a death cult.

I live in an area with a huge number of yellow ribbons and posters commemorating the victims and to be honest, it's uncomfortable. It's become more than a memorial, it's now a pro-Israel political statement. As demonstrated by the fact the ribbons are often accompanied by "Fuck Hamas" stickers and the like.

I do have some sympathy for Israel's position - more than the general public, probably - but I certainly don't support the current decimation of Palestine and I don't like the way the whole locality now seems to have been branded pro-Israeli, it doesn't represent me for sure.

Hamas is a terrorist organisation.

So you also feel the same about all the Palestine flags and marcues? Why is marching for Palestine acceptable but Jewish people are not allowed to mourn the innocents killed by Hamas?

Honeybunny75 · 07/10/2025 12:01

But I thought the music festival killings were in retaliation to the IDF attacking Palestine and murdering people, and trying to force them out of Palestine

They just attacked easy targets. The dead and kidnapped were nothing to do with the government or the military; they were festival goers and kibbutz members, most of whom would be likely to be relative 'peaceniks'. So this 'retaliation' is just indiscriminate mass murder and brutality. (Yes, so is what the Israeli government is doing to Gaza. Neither justifies the other.)

One can only pray the peace plan works. For the sake of everyone.

What excuse then will have the ‘protesters’ have to be anti semitic?

You know once being called anti-semitic would hurt. Now you using that card just makes me think you are genocide supporter.

I'm in a club with the likes of the United Nations save the children and Amnesty international. When I'm saying things that go against Human rights organisations, then I'll worry.

I am sorry but it does mean exactly those things! If you are out supporting Hamas at a protest and you stand with those calling for the death to all Jews you are COMPLICIT whether you like it or not.

This is what is frustrating. You can’t seem to separate the Palestinian people from Hamas because you, deep down, think the genocide is justified and want to group them all together.

They aren’t separate that’s why. You are supporting a known terrorist organisation.

If you genuinely care about the people of Palestine as I do, give to charity. Sponsor the rebuilding. Get behind the peace plan so more lives will be saved. Don’t stand and scream racist slogans. Simple really.

Icreatedausernameyippee · 07/10/2025 12:34

Well the door swings both ways, I guess.
People displayed their upset with ongoing protests in light of the Manchester attacks.
This woman was displaying her upset with solidarity with Israel in light of the ongoing genocide.

That's the thing with politics, every side will have support and objections.

Nestingbirds · 07/10/2025 12:36

You care about the people of Palestine? Stop hurling racist abuse and support the peace plan. It really is that easy.

The innocent civilians of Palestine are different to Hamas. Everyone wants to see Hamas gone. They also want to see an end to the genocide and the current support of that by our government. It’s that simple.

Maybe OP could clarify for us if she supports the Israeli government actions in Gaza and the West Bank since she’s been asked by many posters.

Let’s also not pretend that Israel wouldn’t have killed every living person in Gaza long ago if they thought they could get away with it. The only reason that there are still Palestinians, and they didn’t suffer the same near extinction as the Native Americans and the Aboriginal Australians is that exterminationist settler colonialism was no longer considered acceptable by the mid twentieth century…

They have always played the long game. Palestinians living under Israeli apartheid know that it doesn't matter what is deemed 'acceptable' by the rest of the world, Israel settler colonisation will continue. The 'settlers' are very open in their desire to clear Gaza of Palestinians and don't care how that happens. There are no shortage of willing colonisers to move to Israel to become complicit in the systematic human rights violations against Palestinians.
Of course, the automatic default when Israeli atrocities are raised is 'anti-semetism', designed to give the moral high ground to those who condone, encourage or participate in the illegal occupation and resulting displacement, segregation and discrimination of Palestinians. A response aimed at shutting down any criticism of Israel or critical analysis of their actions over the last 50-60+ years.
No one here is 'Pro Hamas' but that is another purposeful response to demonise anyone who criticises the illegal, immoral and inhumane actions of the Israeli government.
There is a common sentiment that the Gaza genocide is somehow the fault of the Palestinians because of the actions of Hamas. Imagine that sentiment going the other way? It would rightly be condemned as the atrocious statement is would be .
The hypocrisy, however, means there will never be any real discussion

coxesorangepippin · 07/10/2025 12:39

I couldn't agree more

But people don't give a shit anymore, they really don't

Hoppinggreen · 07/10/2025 12:40

It is unacceptable
Whatever your thoughts on events in Gaza now its unacceptable to destroy a memorial like that

So you don’t want peace? Have no intention of supporting a two state solution I assume?

Israel don’t intend to allow a two state solution.

wrongthinker · 07/10/2025 12:42

Her actions were antisemitic, despicable, and soulless.

I hope that she faces justice and that others who support her see that this kind of thing is not going to be tolerated here.

I'm reassured by the voting on this thread, despite some of the horrible comments.

Like Netanyahu?

SalonDesRefuses · 07/10/2025 12:43

It's awful what that women did and it must have been so upsetting.

However...I wish people would stop calling anyone who is against genocide, antisemitic. I find it bizarre there is hatred towards people just for being Jewish, it has never entered my head - ever.

I am, however, against the tactics used by the Israeli government.

Stop trying to misquote and twist what people are saying.

I have not read one single person who has said that they don't support the peace plan or what a two state solution.

You're quoting people who have said that that both hamas and the Israeli govenment are wrong, surely they are the people who do want peace?

Im not sure I understand your point. The Palestinan Authority and Hamas both support a two state solution. Israel doesn't.
