I had put off visiting Venice for years as I was afraid it wouldn't live up to my expectations. Went last October - it was mind-blowing!!!

I want to go to places with big mountainous backdrops - the Rockies, Canada, Alps, New Zealand. Not to hike or ski, just to look at!

I agree that Venice far exceeded expectations. I almost skipped it but an Italian told me I had to visit.

However, that was years ago and DD has since been and the prices to entry are outrageous. Very different when I backpacked in and spent less than 15 on a room.

Bhutan looks so pretty 😍

I would love to take dd to guatemala! Iw it as beautiful as it sounds?

Guatemala is incredibly beautiful and has the tallest pyramid in the world. In your face Egypt!

But be careful, it’s a bit dodgy and you need to travel with safety in mind.

OK, I lied about Norway. Best place I ever visited was Venice. Seriously.

I agree

Abracadabra12345 · 06/10/2025 19:32

We went to Venice in April this year and loved it

Alaska is on my bucket list

Ohh! Yes! Moscow was my favourite city. St Basil’s cathedral was on my bucket list to see and it was beautiful.

Im so envious!! It’s something I’d so love to see and experience! I’d be willing to go now (if I could get a visa) but nobody will go with me as they think it’s too dangerous.

I’ve been to the Rockies. We arrived in Calgary then travelled for three weeks before returning to Calgary and flying home. The lakes are breathtakingly beautiful. You tend to assume that the photos have been doctored to make the water that blue, but it genuinely is, even when you’re close up. The Icefields Parkway, Jasper, Banff, Athabasca falls, all stunning. It all feels very safe. Loads of wildlife (black bears, deer etc, that you did have to be very cautious around; lots of people getting out of their cars and trying to get close for photos 🤦‍♀️) If you have the chance to go, it’s definitely worth the trip.

My favourite places I’ve ever been are a beach I don’t even know the name of in Wales, not far from St Davids, Brixham in Devon and London (I know it’s dirty and smelly and crowded and noisy and expensive, but I think it’s the best city in the world. Far better than Paris or Rome, which are both lovely, but not London). My least favourite places were Montana and Turin.

I’d very much like to go to Cornwall, more of Italy, Greece, anywhere I could see the Northern Lights and whale watching, I’d also like to explore a bit of America, but that would be a lottery win.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 06/10/2025 20:49

I’ve always wanted to travel around South America, Brazil, Argentine, Peru and Bolivia mainly. One day I’ll do it!

Best place I’ve been to was the Grand Canyon, it was breathtaking. Second best is Portugal, such a beautiful country, I love the language and the people.

Edited

European beach holidays are great for kids, they will play in the sand all day long!
You might be best starting closer to home than a far off destination, depends what your comfort level is!
For me I get them planned in and then hussle to get them paid, I'll happily eat super noodles for a month in exchange for a holiday!
Hope you have a fabulous time and im sure you'll catch the bug! Xx

Favourite place I've been... Nova Scotia, Canada ❤️

I'm off to Canada later this week 🇨🇦 It'll be my third time (I have family there) and I love it. Doing a bit travelling around this time.

I've been lucky to have travelled a lot over the years (the silver lining to infertility 🙂) and I don't have a "list" any more. So I let DH choose and if he's stuck we'll do a Greek island

My best holiday is usually the last one but I have to say last year's safari trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar was pretty special.

My favourite places though are Slovenia and Greece. I'd love to live in Ljubljana or Athens.

Sorry to hear of your fertility issues 💐💐 - but it sounds like youre making sure to enjoy life right! x

Tanzania and zanzibar sound amazing - safari is definitely on my list, especially for dd

Please share non outing photos, we'd love to see 👀👀

Yes hard agree, I was thinking that for new york, its just better to book it, then pay it off rather than saving and then spending the savings 🙈🙈

Thank you 💕🥰 me too, i'm hoping it rubs off on dd as well xx

'Moon
Mars'

😄😄😄

That's a cool list of places youve been though!

I want to take Dd to bali, but also to Edinburgh now! Might see if I can do Edinburgh in December on the cheap 👀

Edinburgh was doable cheap a few years ago, I took my kids to the Premier inn in the centre, I think it was Prince’s Street. Was about £45 a night just before Christmas and it was so so festive (the town not the hotel tbh!). We drove up there and stopped at Premier inn York on the way and that was beautiful, too.

Places that are among the best I have visited:

Balkan countries, particularly Slovenia and Croatia.
Venice (in 1999 it may be more crowded now)
Istanbul - the Bosphorus and historic peninsula, there are plenty of ugly suburbs where tourists need not stray.
Japan

Places on my wish list:

Oman
Philippines
Uzbekistan
Safari maybe in Botswana or Tanzania

narkyspirit · 06/10/2025 21:55
