Ihatetomatoes · 06/10/2025 10:42

I dont blame them. I would if I were Jewish.

They have been failed by their country, which is the UK. I wish them well and hope the UK can sort its anti semitism problems so it becomes safe for Jewish people again.

Could you please point to where I have called out Jewish people of anything?
I have also not said anything about people becoming ''jew-haters''. I

I do not condone the actions of the Israeli government - I am abhorred by the starving of innocent children. Thats not being anti-semetic.

I think you have me confused with someone else.....

No, I haven't. This is your statement: 'I don't think everyone has suddenly become jew-haters, its more the genocide and purposeful starvation of children that gets on peoples tits.'

You have literally attached the idea of Jew-hating to the genocide. If you can't see that with the sentence above, then I repeat: I cannot help you.

cathyj77 · 06/10/2025 15:17

@PevenseygirlQQ the people marching in support of Ukraine are not usually (ever?) calling for the all-out destruction of Russia 'from the river to the sea'. And the war in Ukraine wasn't started by Ukraine murdering thousands of Russian civilians and taking more hostage.

So that's just one of many differences...

Stop using anti-semitic tropes

What antisemitic trope have I used?

I understand that… BUT were they classed as anti-Christian/catholic/Russian for doing so? I wasn’t talking about the specifics of the war, I was trying to point out not all pro-pal protestors are anti-semitic

October 7th still happened.
Their children will face mandatory conscription into the military
Those who are refusing are facing prison.
Why would you want to be a part of that? I genuinely don't understand

I don’t know, maybe it’s a general sense of belonging? Undercurrent fear of whatever country outside Israel they call home suddenly turning on them, because it happened on numerous occasions in the past?
I’m just guessing, but I’ve heard similar statements from several Jewish people.

cathyj77 · 06/10/2025 15:21

@PevenseygirlQQ I agree with you that not all Pro-Palestine supporters are anti-semitic. But enough are that any decent person should question the vibe of those marches.

As far as I'm aware I've never seen any anti-Christian/Catholic imagery on Ukraine marches. But the pro-Pal marches are full of stars of David turned into swastikas, which I assume you'd agree is offensive and anti-semitic?

bumbaloo · 06/10/2025 15:23

mugglewump · 06/10/2025 10:54

There are over 1/4 million Jews in Britain. This is a story about 2 families moving/going back to Israel. Is this really a trend?

IMO anti-semetism and anti-Israeli government are not the same thing. I am proud of my Jewish heritage, I find Netanyahu dispicable.

Thank you

I absolutely agree they are anti-semitic and they should be arrested, but should we tar everyone with the same brush? Just like we shouldn’t tar Israeli’s or Jews with the same brush as we would the Israeli Government.

Would you also say that if the protests/marches were all in favour of Israel that those in attendance would all be islamaphobic or would that be wrong to say?

freakyfriday23 · 06/10/2025 15:24

I haven't read the threads but I'd bet a large sum of cash that if I read the jew hating posts that would come I'd make fat stacks. Jews were always told that one can't criticise israel without being called anti semitic but you can guarantee that if English jew hatred is discussed someone will ALWAYS bring israel into it, probably the same people who said the first part. You can be pro palestine without being a jew hater however jew hatred has exploded by people who hate Jews and use the israel platform. Plenty don't even bother to hide it behind israel. I see/hear so much of it now, textbook stuff straight from the etchings of Goebals note pads. It's the ones who play it down/deny it/justify it who are the problem.

That doesn't make any sense. How would you argue that a march in support of Israel was Islamaphobic. What would be your logic?

You said that you have no idea how it is possible to protest against Israel without being accused of antisemitism and I provided you the requested advice. Hope it helps as next time I'll charge

That if the roles were reversed and most of the marches were pro-israeli rather than palestine would all of those people be labelled as Islamaphobic (as believe most Palestinians are muslim) just as the person I originally replied to implied that people at the pro-pal marches are all anti-semitic

People on a pro-Israel march would be accused of being Islamaphobic if they held up placards or joined in chants that were Islamaphobic. That hasn't happened to my knowledge. The one march I walked past in London that had a strong pro-Israel contingent was full of people talking to each other or chanting anti-racist slogans. The police were basically standing watching with nothing to do.

birling16 · 06/10/2025 15:35

How on earth have we ended up with this binary thinking, well it isn't thinking is it?

The individuals who do that would/should be called Islamaphobics NOT all of the protestors, and thats my point.

Abhannmor · 06/10/2025 15:36

I read an article about young Israelis moving to other countries a while back. Berlin is a popular destination , which I found quite emotional - in a good way. But I suppose all these stories are anecdotal.

cathyj77 · 06/10/2025 15:38

@PevenseygirlQQ I've already said that I don't believe all the marchers are anti-semitic, but I don't understand why anyone with good motives would march alongside rabid anti-semites. There are a lot of other things you can do to protest the Israeli government's stance: donate money to a Palestinian charity, lobby your MP, post online about your own views, plus more. No-one is forced to march alongside anti-semites calling for the destruction of Israel and carrying swastikas. So why are all the so-called 'decent' people on these marches still going, despite hearing how scared it is making Britain's Jews?

It sounds like you're 'both sides'ing to me. I don't think there's an equivalence in the nature of pro- and anti-Israel marches.

Because maybe the anti-semites are much smaller in number than the genuine marchers? And maybe the anti-semites should not attend and if they do hopefully be arrested.
People have a right to protest and if they are not being racist or violent than they can.
I believe I’ve probably gone off on a tangent, but my whole original point was not all the protestors were anti-semitic just because they protest Israel which you have agreed with.

I don't need your help.
I'm pointing out... people have NOT become haters of Jewish people.
They are protesting the Israeli governments genocidal actions. The rest of the world isn't happy about it either... given Netanyahu's charges of war crimes.

If you can't see that- I cant help you either...

cathyj77 · 06/10/2025 15:46

@PevenseygirlQQ Yes, I think what we might disagree about is what proportion of the marchers have good vs bad motives. I agree that they should have the legal right to protest by the way, so I'm not questioning the legality, just the morals.

I believe comfortably over 50% of the people on those marches believe Israel should be wiped off the map. Which is anti-semitic enough for me.

No-one holding any signs or chanting any slogans calling for a two-state solution is another giveaway.

I don't know if you read Matthew Syed's piece in the Times this weekend where he asked some of the protestors what there reasons for protesting were? It didn't make comfortable reading...

Onmytod24 · 06/10/2025 15:46

Ihatetomatoes · 06/10/2025 13:46

All of this.

People need education. Jewish people have always lived in the middle east (and elsewhere). Judaism is older them Islam. The Ottoman empire was in the middle east with their colonisation... Palestinian people do not have the right to the entire area, all of it wasn't stolen as people pretend! So much misinformation.

Antisemitism is wrong and growing.

I’m just looking at the blank page and shaking my head. Why are you so interested in Stirring up hatred? Just why? the fact that you reached back into centuries ago to claim something or other is ridiculous.

Your belief that 50% of matter is want Israel to be wiped off the map that is a ridiculous percentage the number of people in the world who want another country to be wiped off the map it’s just paranoia you’re being fed by other people or you just like it for some weird reason, I don’t get it how you can describe a ridiculous opinion to 60% of people on a March.
