Neighbour has put up huge Unite the Kingdom flag

I am gutted. I haven't seen a single flag in my town, and suddenly this union jack goes up two doors over with the words 'Unite the Kingdom' printed on it in capital letters. The flag is huge and flying from a pole on top of their shed, but it's in their own garden so nothing can be done.

I am the daughter of an immigrant mother and therefore mixed race. Now I have to see this fucking flag waving at me every time I look out of my kitchen or living room windows.

No not really. People change TR is mainstream now I agree 20 plus years ago he could be considered racist.

He's still racist.

It's Tommy Robinson and his lot who don't respect our flag. Using it to incite racism and disunity.

The other man holding up the flag with TR is Asian…..

Ant Middleton?

ToWhitToWhoo · 05/10/2025 19:01

It's not impossible to be both Asian and hard-right. Ben Habib, for example.

These guys always have their token non white person who is supposed to prove they are not racists. I don’t know where they get them from. He has got Katie cannot remember her last name too on his team hasn’t he?

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 05/10/2025 19:07

Simplestars · 05/10/2025 18:00

The flag is not racist. The person flying it usually is.

In the past perhaps the person flying it usually was. And only because we've laboured under a couple of generations of being told that our flag is an embarrassment and to celebrate it is to celebrate slavery and oppression under the empire, etc, etc. And most Brits just like to lie low and not make a loud fuss about anything much, so they kept their patriotism largely un-performative.

Now it's not 'usual' for a flag flyer to be far right at all. Just because people who are far right and racist might align with a particular cause of point of view should not detract from the simple fact that others who share that view are not far right or racist.

After all, Hitler was a vegetarian....

This is something that should be obvious and common sense and yet, it seems to go entirely over the heads of so many people who like to see themselves as more intelligent than the average 'gammon' on the street.

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than listen to him speak.

If you haven't listened to what he has to say, any negative comments you make about him are totally meaningless.

This is the current problem with the Left. Rather than engaging with people, listening to their concerns, and making a counter argument if you disagree, you prefer to just insult people.

Calling the majority of people in this country racists and transphobes is not a strategy that has worked out well for the left in the past (Brexit and President Trump) and is exactly the attitude that will end up with Prime Minister Farage.

BluntPlumHam · 05/10/2025 18:50

Wishful thinking. If there’s flags hanging in your area drop the price significantly or be prepared to wait a long time before you sell. No one decent wants to be living around that.

I keep seeing this 'flags reduce purchase prices' argument but there is absolutely no statistical evidence to support this. Many towns have flags all over the place.

Chenecinquantecinq · 05/10/2025 19:09

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/10/2025 19:03

He's still racist.

It doesn’t matter. The point you’re all missing is he’s filled a void for people who have legitimate concerns over mass immigration to follow and represent them. Listen instead of labelling everyone racist. If you don’t start listening you will get a very big shock as to where things are headed. People have had enough. The white working class has had enough in particular. Most don’t stick their necks out when everything is going well. Unfortunately over the next few years the economy is going to nose dive. This will only add to the growing unrest.

I’d say for now the flags are flying in areas where the house prices are not high anyway.

Fleetheart · 05/10/2025 18:50

well it is well known as the slogan of the march organised by TR

Yeah I didn’t read any of that beyond ‘march organised in London’ - something similar every other week, never very interesting as a news story.

lljkk · 05/10/2025 19:10

I never heard the slogan before this thread so I would be tempted to "play dumb" and directly ask them "what does that slogan mean"?

And sort of invite them to end up saying to my face "I don't want you" or "I mean everyone else that looks like you but not YOU" or maybe they would say something vague not what this thread means at all.

@UrticaDioca if you are that offended by the flag of the country you live in, perhaps its time to move somewhere where you do respect the country's flag.

So if you dont agree with racists flying racist flags you should Get Out!🤯

Thanks for saying the quiet part out loud @ItWasnaMeGuv.

It's true the majority of these are working class areas which comes as no surprise as the working classes are those most affected by illegal immigration. Flying flags is not reducing house prices though.

There are plenty of affluent areas who have taken part in 'raise the colours' too.

And possibly wrong. You'll remember judge not that you be not judged? It means do not jump to conclusions without evidence.

I know what it means. I also take very little notice of the bible. Everyone judges. Especially people who put flags up. The judgiest of the lot.

But you don't know the people flying flags are racist. Stop twisting people's words.

Wishing14 · 05/10/2025 19:17

Maybe talk to them, get to know them. Take people as you find them… you might have another neighbour with the same political views as you who beats his wife or downloads illegal content of children…

BitOutOfPractice · 05/10/2025 19:17

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 05/10/2025 16:10

Would you? How disgraceful to make automatically pejorative assumptions about anybody based on such a thing as displaying the national flag of one's country.

So many of the people currently banging on scathingly about 'flag shaggers' thought nothing of plasting their facebook profiles with the EU flag post Brexit, did they? With its missing star and all the 'look after our star for us' bollocks. And smugly getting the obligatory UK bumper stickers with the EU stars and around them for driving into France. Funny how they don't see themselves as flag shaggers. Hmm

Everyone makes assumptions. None more than the flag wavers.

Lol at Tommy Robinson being anti-immigration.😆😆😆

He's an actual immigrant. After the UK voted for Brexit, Tommy rushed out, got himself an Irish passport and moved to Spain. He has a lovely villa, expensive holidays and a drug problem all paid for by the racist and the gullible people he grifts off.

If that racist, violent, drug taking skank is filling your void, you need to take a long hard look at yourself.🙈

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/10/2025 19:22

Grammarnut · 05/10/2025 17:11

No, they don't. Many immigrants went on the Unite the Kingdom march (and my own step-grandson who is no racist). Many want to stop illegal immigration and to have rules enforced about legal immigration. It's not racist to think that immigration should be controlled and to the use of the host country.

It is not racist to think that immigration should be controlled, but it would be extremely strange for someone who doesn't have racist sympathies to go on a march organised by a well known racist.

I'm in my fifties.

Things were getting progressively better for many years, but they have been gradually getting worse again imo in the last ten years. People feel emboldened to say stuff now that they wouldn't have dreamt of saying 10 years ago.
