Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

220 a night isn't high end though is it? In London this would be a cheap hotel room

Lots of beautiful hotels outside of London where this is a normal price mark. Once again a Londoner not believing a world exists outside of this country’s god awful capital. Eye roll.

I stayed at Premier Inn recently, I was disappointed it was a shower cubicle and not a bath/ overhead shower. We have an accessible bathroom at home, I was looking forward to wallowing! 😂 No complaint though. If I was paying loads, and hadn't requested accessible then I would expect bathroom or both.

Completely off topic but my exhusband committed suicide in a bath at a premier Inn. I'm very happy to walk into a hotel room without a bath in it these days. Irrelevant to this obviously

Booking was done over the telephone by my husband.
When I asked to change rooms they advised we should have been told at the time of booking it was an accessible bathroom, my husband doesn't recall being told this when he booked.

He might not recall but I'm betting he was told about the bathroom on the phone.

It's a very Londoncentric board at times.

Letmeooooout · 05/10/2025 09:41

I think some people are being disingenuous here with "what's the problem". OP expected bath, advertised style of bathroom. I was once also fuming in a hotel because somehow I ended up with shower not bath as it was supposed to be. I have lower back issue and was looking forward to a soak after long travel and meetings in uncomfortable seats!

I also agree with point that accessible bathrooms could still be made considerably nicer!

coravantexel · 05/10/2025 09:41

Having a long, hot bath is something I really look forward to when I’m going away, especially if it’s a fun trip and not for work, so I would be pretty naffed off with this and would want to change room. It does depend what you have in writing from them at the time of booking.

MaplePumpkin · 05/10/2025 09:41

Can you show us a picture from the website of what you were expecting?

Sassylovesbooks · 05/10/2025 09:43

Essentially it's an accessible room with a wet room, rather than a bathroom. Yes, the hotel should have advised your husband of this at the time of booking. The hotel have told you, your husband should have been advised of this. However, it appears the hotel don't know if your husband actually was advised and your husband doesn't 'recall' being told. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing if your husband was told or not, not being able to 'recall' it, doesn't mean he wasn't told!! No, I wouldn't be particularly impressed with a wet room, as I dislike them but given the circumstances, it's a case of sucking it up, and accepting it's better than having to share a bathroom situated down the corridor!!! Don't let it spoil your weekend away.

KarensCalling · 05/10/2025 09:43

I think you’re getting a hard time on this thread OP if you describe as where you’re staying as an nice spa hotel (the premier inn comments seem to have been by another user people are grabbing on to it!). Maybe post some pictures of the bathroom you were expecting to help give context to your disappointment? I would be disappointed too if you were expecting a luxury free standing bath. Bathrooms I find actually do make a massive difference to how you feel about the hotel. YANBU.

What a very narrow and mean spirited view of the world, a view not held by the 20 million tourists who choose to visit the 'god awful' city every year

To me its horrible. Id be furious. It looks like a cheap accessible bathroom. Not luxury in the least.

Wow! Consider yourself lucky to have option of a luxury bathroom. Anyone who needs an accessible bathroom has no choice yet they pay the same.

£220 per night is not cheap?

It is if it includes dinner both nights.

Why would it include dinner?

Why would it include dinner?

Because it usually does if you are booking a weekend package?

AngelinaFibres · 05/10/2025 09:48

He phone and booked.
I haven't booked a hotel over the phone for years. Presumably there would still be a confirmation email in which it would say that the room was accessible. He must have that somewhere....or has he conveniently deleted it

Applepe · 05/10/2025 09:48

I would be disappointed too, if I’d seen pictures of a fancy bathroom and thought I was getting a luxurious weekend away. I have to ask if DH understood what was meant by accessible bathroom, or am I being a bit mean?

RedSkyatNight25 · 05/10/2025 05:37

I have just spent last night in a premier inn £215. It was nice but certainly not luxury.

VanillaBerthaCake · 05/10/2025 09:50

I used to work at a hotel with one of these bathrooms and it caused no end of issues. Advertised on the website were beautiful bathrooms - no free-standing bath but a gorgeous shower, contemporary style, moody lighting etc. Parisian style with colour. We then had an accessible wet room with blue linoleum flooring and white walls, and when the shower was used the water would cover the whole floor and even reach the toilet and sink. It was absolutely vile. It stank of damp too.

We had no end of guests get a full-refund because they had been expecting a lovely bathroom. We had one guest be particularly emotional because she was at the hotel for a treat from her DP a few months after a traumatic birth (she was physically healed, did not need the accessible bathroom), and she actually had a panic attack because it reminded her of the post-natal ward! After that they invested in having it re-done. If still had accessible features but was much more discreet. The complaints stopped after that.

Ellmau · 05/10/2025 09:51

I prefer a bath too.

Thanks, I didn't think it was cheap at all, the hotel is certainly not Premier Inn, it is a premium spa hotel for which I think the price is high end, whilst our bathroom is low end!

I don't suppose you'd be willing to ID the actual hotel?

I often phone to book as a lot of hotels don't have power outlets by the bed (amazingly) and DH uses a CPAP machine, so I like to establish that we can actually stay there and I'm not afraid to pick up the phone

Catsknowbest · 05/10/2025 09:51

Isitmybathtimeyet · 05/10/2025 09:30

I suspect the issue was with the floor and drainage. Our wet room has a sloping floor so drains as the shower runs and a quick swipe with a squeegee scraper removes the last bits of water in a couple of seconds. But a flat floor with bad drainage as described means sorting out standing water every time you shower which is a pain.

Yes when the drain isn't done right it is a pain.

shhblackbag · 05/10/2025 09:53

Linenpickle · 05/10/2025 08:16

They need to offer a partial refund.

Not if they told the husband and he 'can't remember' because he now realises he fucked up.

Why?

The bathroom is horrible. It’s horrible whether you’re able bodied or disabled.

Why should anyone be grateful in these circumstances?

You've been staying in some peculiar Travelodges and Premier Inns if you've been paying £220 a night for a double room, even at the weekend.

Just paid £215 in one. It’s actually not much cheaper than the nearby Hilton 🙄 Not much available as it’s uni drop off weekend.
