Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

That is a functional bathroom - like a Travelodge or Ferry cabin showerroom. It isn't a pampering experience, unlike the bathrooms you shared. Did you hear back from the hotel?

I know it’s not what the OP expected, but this bathroom is not grim. It’s a daily part of life for many of us with mobility impairments. And which we’re often forced to pay more for in hotels, if there is even one available.

It’s functional. It’s not grim.

I think it’s grim too. I’m a bit sad that people who have no choice but to use adapted spaces are fobbed off like this. It should be possible for an adapted bathroom to feel luxurious.

You haven't been in a Travelodge or on a ferry if you think that is what they look like.

MindfulSis · 06/10/2025 21:20

I can't believe majority think you're unreasonable. I would feel the exact same as you, when you spend your money on a weekend away at a spa hotel, you want a deluxe bathroom to match the deluxe room you have booked. Sounds like the hotel have overbooked and allocated you this room in the hope you won't complain.
There is nothing wrong with accessible bathrooms of course, but why should you miss out on a luxury bathroom rather then have a wet room for the weekend.
I hope you get some compensation!

Ocelotfeet27 · 06/10/2025 21:21

This has happened to me before a few times, not always an accessible bathroom but a hotel where they've decided to scrimp and save and only have baths in some rooms. Despite booking a room with a bath I haven't got one. I hope you get some money back bit I am assuming you've now left, which I always think makes it harder. Either way I'd leave some reviews about it, that bathroom is not luxurious at all and I'd be very annoyed if I booked an accessible room at a premium price and received that. Hope the room itself was nice though.

Thank you, very much appreciated 👍.

There is actually a full moon tomorrow but it already looks full tonight. Love you’ve spotted that. It sure does send all the crazies, crazy ❤️

T1Dmama · 06/10/2025 21:33

I’d complain in writing. Send a picture of what you were sold (website images) and then send pics of what ou got… I would describe this as a public disabled bathroom!.. no very nice.
can you shower without sitting down? I’d be cross if I had to sit on a chair to shower

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 06/10/2025 21:35

So sorry you missed out on a lovely break. I’m not sure why some people are being so unkind. I’d be devastated if I’d booked a luxurious room (like your pics) and ended up with the one you got. Regardless of it being accessible (and yes this should be much nicer) - it’s not what was advertised.

good luck getting some money back. I hope you can book somewhere nicer again soon.

ChaliceinWonderland · 06/10/2025 22:06

If its weekend break in a hospital ok, otherwise this is grim. Is thd bedroom fabulous? That's 500 quid to spend jn a substandard accommodation. You could do flight to Europe for that or eutostar to bruges for a night.
Leave a shit review!

limescale · 06/10/2025 22:08

don’t know what the hell is wrong with people on here at the moment …Is there a full moon due or something?

It's tomorrow night [misses point of thread]

Londonrach1 · 06/10/2025 22:22

Complain...looks nothing like what you booked

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/10/2025 22:31

The fault here lies with the fact hotels treat their accessible rooms (and charge for them!) as 'deluxe' rooms, because they are by necessity, larger than standard rooms.

So anyone unfortunate enough to book a deluxe room, not wanting an accessible room, pays through the nose for no bath.

Anyone wanting an accessible room because they've no bloody choice, gets an overpriced room, with a bathroom that probably doesn't meet their needs and looks awful.

nevernotmaybe · 06/10/2025 22:34

BennyBee · 05/10/2025 08:53

It depends where you are. In London or holiday hotspots, £220 a night is about as cheap as it gets. Most other places, £220 is mid-range for a nice hotel.

It really isn't. You might want to improve you hotel search game! I could book one right now for a few weeks time, in the heart of Covent Garden, not even trying to be cheap just an above travelodge type hotel for £160 a night.

And a quick look finds many rooms available for around the £150 mark for two nights, in decent hotels all around tourist areas or close by in London.

having a bath is part of a luxury weekend away for us

I love baths at home, but the thought of lying in a bath were numerous strangers have been standing before (doing goodness knows what) makes me feel yuck yes I know they're cleaned but still...

How’d you feel about sleeping in the same bed after countless people have had sex in it?

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 06/10/2025 22:38

That is not what I'd expect from a luxury hotel. Disabled or not. It actually reminds me of a hospital bathroom.
I'd absolutely complain OP. I hope you get somewhere with it.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 06/10/2025 22:39

Honestly some of the comments here have made me tearful. I have a disabled husband and that is what we expect and often they fall short. That us a very nice accessible wet room. I can still have a romantic weekend even if it does look 'grim' or 'like a hospital bathroom' . I hope you lot never have to experience not having access to a nice hotel or any sort of holiday because there are no accessible rooms or there are steps or no parking on site (the list goes on)

Terracottafarmers · 06/10/2025 22:41

I too wouldn't be happy with this OP. If it isn't what you have booked then I immediately would complain. That's a lot of money for two nights

The same actually but at least I have the CHOICE of taking a shower

why is this your reading when literlaly everyone is saying accessible bathrooms should be aesthetically closer to standard bathrooms? Why are you determined to read ablism when this thread is not about disability?!

Wellshellsbells · 06/10/2025 22:44

I think you’re in the right to complain.

Jerkchinken · 06/10/2025 22:46

That is not what I'd expect for a luxury experience, if your expectation is of an adaptable bathroom, then maybe that would be YOUR luxury experience.
Sorry it may be harsh to those having to use these facilities, but no thanks, they remind me of when my dad was in a nursing home, not memories I want to personally replicate on holiday

iontheprize · 06/10/2025 22:50

you can do a room tour on the website which shows a much more basic bathroom then what you've shared. it does have a bath, but its a very functional space. They very clearly state "All Deluxe rooms have large queen-size beds, and en-suite bathrooms, most of which have showers over the bath"

Deluxe Double or Twin Room

For those in need of more space, we offer the Deluxe rooms. Like the Executive rooms, these rooms are decorated and furnished to fit your every need in a warm and welcoming surrounding. All Deluxe rooms have large queen-size beds, and en-suite bathroom...

NowABikeRide · 06/10/2025 23:01

As someone who is disabled and needs to use accessible bathrooms, I’m with the OP, it’s a shjt bathroom. There is no reason to not have the same tiles and luxury fittings as the rest of the hotel. It looks shit and beyond basic and no thought into it

Endorewitch · 06/10/2025 23:03

But is this supposed to be a luxary hotel? The price she paid for 2 people for a weekend in a UK hotel is very good value indeed. For that price the bathroom is absolutely fine. Maybe the more luxurious photos on website were for more expensive rooms. Anyhow you dont live in a bathroom. You are there for a mere weekend.
Presumably the beds are comfirtable. Just enjoy your trip!

swingingbytheseat · 06/10/2025 23:10

I don’t like shower curtains, so I don’t think you’re being unreasonable
