Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Having seen the photograph of the bathroom you were expecting, I think that you are right to be annoyed and to make a complaint. It's very annoying when hotels put photographs on of lovely looking rooms, then in reality you get something entirely different. Your husband is right - Premier Inn bathrooms are better than the one that you were given!

Let us know how you get on 😊

Booking was done over the telephone by my husband.
When I asked to change rooms they advised we should have been told at the time of booking it was an accessible bathroom, my husband doesn't recall being told this when he booked.

Of course he doesn’t 😂 😂

Fairy25 · 06/10/2025 18:19

I agree that is not what I would expect for that money. Maybe you can get a refund or a fee stay another time. It depends on whether they actually told your husband the room type or not.

Familylimbo · 06/10/2025 18:19

£440 I’d be expecting a bit more luxurious than this, could’ve got a premier for £80-90 a night and be nicer!

DBD1975 · 06/10/2025 12:55

Just checked our booking confirmation which shows my husband booked a deluxe room, no mention of it being an accessible room or having an accessible bathroom.

You realise that accessible room can be ‘deluxe’ too?

And that it was very likeky one of the last rooms available. Those rooms are not usually released for abled people unless theres no choice.

So basically it was the accessible room or none I suspect.

As an aside, as someone who needs an accessible room, all the talk about the bathroom looking awful etc etc… is pretty shit tbh. But I’m sure I’m going to be told to rein my neck in.

Longleggedgiraffe · 06/10/2025 18:20

If it's not what you booked, I'd be annoyed too and would definitely be trying to get a refund of some sort.. However, that's where my sympathy stops. For all those who described it horrible, cheap and plastic, gross etc, etc, well, I hope you never need one when you get older, because this is what accessible bathrooms look like. For some people there is literally no other choice.

skippy67 · 06/10/2025 18:20

The bathroom itself is completely fine. The comments about accessible bathrooms being unhygienic, unattractive and cheap are in very poor taste and are showing the ableism that pervades our society.

Nope. The bathroom IS unattractive. Fact.

MaurineWayBack · 06/10/2025 18:22

DBD1975 · 06/10/2025 17:46

That is exactly what happened, the whole blooming wet room got soaked, the toilet, the floor, it was just horrible.

😂😂😂

Ive just discovered a new horror about being disabled - when you have a shower, the whole room gets wet!
Justvas well you didn’t need to have a wheelchair in the way too 😜😜

Animatic · 06/10/2025 18:24

Depends what you expected and if you were misled (which you were by the sound of it). I wouldn't have booked a room with this bathroom if I saw it on photos.

independentfriend · 06/10/2025 18:30

The thing that's missing from that bathroom is a bath - that's where I'd base the complaint. Baths are good for eg. relaxing sore muscles in a way that showers can't match.

Everything else is much more subjective.

(I really like the look of that bathroom - no steps to trip over getting into and out of the shower, enough space to not have a shower curtain sticking to me and a seat. What I can't see is how slippery the floor is.)

AnnieMay55 · 06/10/2025 18:32

You were lucky. We were once offered an accessible room, they said it was a bit larger than others they had left. I was thinking it would just be accessible by being on the ground floor. It was ok until we got in bed and the mattress stunk of urine, I could hardly breathe! Obviously it could happen in any room I suppose but maybe with people with other needs it could be more common.
Luckily they had another room to move us to.

SisterMidnight77 · 06/10/2025 18:38

Your husband messed up.

Toofficeornot · 06/10/2025 18:39

It would be fine if for me unkess I had specifically wanted a luxury room and bathroom. So I can see why you are annoyed if the pictures are not what you expected.
A couples weekend away in the uk then yea I can see bathroom would be important.

sittingonabeach · 06/10/2025 18:42

Your DH said they mentioned accessible room to him when he booked. I assume it is on the ground floor (which would also suit being pet friendly and I assume suited for guide dogs). What was the bedroom like @DBD1975

ScutchS · 06/10/2025 18:43

I don't think you're being unreasonable to want a bath. If I paid the best part of £500 for 2 nights away, I'd want a bath too. In fact I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel (even a crappy one) that didn't have a bath. Also to all the people saying you should have requested one or blaming the husband for not picking up on the accessible bathroom thing. Personally if I were told the bathroom was accessible I wouldn't automatically assume it didn't have a bath. Just that there was something in place to make the bath or shower easier for anyone that needed it to be...but maybe that's just me. Also, I think if they're going to show you pictures of a room when you book, that's pretty much what you should get.

Bunnycat101 · 06/10/2025 18:46

I think it depends on whether your husband was told and also whether the room is cheaper than the ones you’ve seen online. I’d be a bit disappointed if I was expecting something more luxury looking.

I also think hotel prices have gone up massively for what you get. I’ve been travelling a lot for work recently and even city centre premier inns on a weekday are often £120-£150 a night for single occupancy. Proper luxury hotels are now such an outrageous cost per night I’m not sure I could justify them now.

I don’t know what the hell is wrong with people on here at the moment …

Is there a full moon due or something . Where’s everyone’s compassion gone . I would feel exactly the same if I paid £440 for a room and this turned out to be the bathroom as I could’ve stayed at home and had a shower at my parents house and got the exact same “luxury” and trust me it’s definitely NOT nice showering in one of these , hardly relaxing when everywhere gets drenched.

I used to book hotels a lot and no way have I paid anywhere near £440 for a Premier Inn ! My sister recently paid a little more for 2 nights in the city of London in a very luxury hotel I’m sure that had a beautiful bathroom not a wet room .

It’s not the OPs fault the hotel was fully booked . They should’ve warned her so she could’ve booked elsewhere .

You are totally not being unreasonable in the slightest OP. . I hope you get some money returned to you and you had a nice stay otherwise,

NebulousDeadline · 06/10/2025 19:02

Thanks for posting the other bathroom photos. Easy to find the hotel and confirm it is not a TL/P Inn. In fact no photos of the accessible bathrooms on hotel's website. Could find one on Durham one.

No he didn't, the hotel messed up.

It’s not awful but it is very practical and clinical it sort of looks like shower rooms in hospital. If you are expecting an accessible bathroom then I’m sure it’s great but if you are expecting a freestanding bath to lounge in then you’ll be disappointed.

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 06/10/2025 19:21

It looks like the shower rooms you get at a (NHS) hospital! Very similar to the ones I showered in after giving birth. I'd be livid if that was an en suite in a hotel!

Wildefish · 06/10/2025 19:22

DBD1975 · 05/10/2025 02:55

We didn't book an accessible bathroom/shower room and the photos of the hotel rooms on the website show luxurious bathrooms with free standing baths and separate showers.

In which case go down to reception and say you would like a batthroom like the ones in the pictures. These may be from higher priced rooms but at least you’ll know.
