11 million immigrants since 2000. When I

Sorry, it’s another immigration one.

I always see immigration discussed in terms of race, religion, who may or may not be a good fit for the UK, whether it’s by small boats - to be honest, this is not the biggest worry for me.

The biggest worry is the sheer increase in our population and how many people this country can reasonably accommodate. We are now 8th in Europe for population density - only behind Belgium and the Netherlands, and a handful of places like Vatican City and the Channel Islands. At present we have net migration of around 500,000 a year.

I’m worried that the key issues of overpopulation are being overlooked to make this conversation all about race. What about our pollution levels, wildlife habitats, flood risk, food security, infrastructure? Will this eventually be a polluted city state country? It seems to be heading that way.

Posters always say we need immigration, but we have already welcome 11 million since 2000. If that still isn’t enough; what is? Or do we just keep going?

I’ve already explained that the figure of 2.5m was taken from a different thread and I posted the google data from that thread.

At least I’m willing to re-look at data. You seem fixated on defending the 11m lie.

‘You seem..’ line is wrong too, I’ve posted three times @Bumblebee72figures are closer.

Not RTFT, @Uggbootsforever as I get annoyed with everyone saying 'source'? I don't care about the source, we haven't got the space, housing, money, NHS treatment etc to keep letting people in.
I'm fine with sending food wherever, if that's what people need, but am totally pissed off with more & more people crowding in, it's taking the piss. I don't expect people to agree, & frankly couldn't care less whether they do or not, this is MY opinion.

I agree

its quite depressing to see where you live locally totally change for the worse and it’s so unnecessary

Look at the chain, she only backed down to 7-8m AFTER i said it was 6.6m.

Wrong again. I'm not sure what you are trying achieve on this thread other than tying poster in knots with nonsense. You seem intent on calling people liars which posting misinformation yourself. You don't seem to understand that 11m is the increase in population that is not the same thing as the net migration. A bit like the number for 2012-2023 is not the same the number for 2000-2025 but at least we seem to have persuaded you of that. There are ranges of estimates. The ONS says 7m net but doesn't include 2025 so an estimate needs to be added.

According the ONS
10.3m increase in population from 2000-2025
16m people moved to the uk in that period.
8m left the uk in that period.
This leave 2.3m to a result of increased life expectancy offsetting birth rates .

I posted that bridge hours ago.

But is this because of immigrants directly? From my perspective it's down to government mismanagement that's been going on for decades. Under investment, poor decision making. I feel like immigrants are being scapegoated after successive governments have let British people down

Yes I understand what you are saying.

however there is definitely white flight in the area which is a shame

Closer to what the number is.

Which was posted by me, therefore my number.

Here is what Bumblebee was posting before I corrected him/her:

ONS says population of the UK ins 2000 was 58,886,100 and in 2024 it was 69,281,437. The official number to mid 2024 was 10.4m, plus the increase in the last year suggest 11m is about right.

Er no. I questioned you on the 2.5m.

Interesting that you use the term white flight as this is quite a loaded term that implies racism, at least that's my knowledge of the word as I thought it was originally used to describe white people in the US in the 40s-50s leaving areas after black people moved there.

I think the same still applies though- areas go downhill because of government failings. White people more likely to have the money to leave so they do, immigrants don't. I don't think it's the fault of the immigrants but the government.

Reducing immigration may be necessary but only as a temporary measure, a sticking plaster while we fix the actual root issues. But the government wouldn't do that as someone said upthread, they're just interested in short term (4 year) measures to get reelected, no one is thinking long term

EasternStandard · 04/10/2025 15:30

CatchingtheCat · 04/10/2025 14:19

So everyone saying it is definitely not 11 million, do you think 11 million would be too many?

Good question

You’re not though.

11m was a lie.

8m was a lie.

You just pick out numbers from the air.

And so was the figure of 2.5m, which you provided earlier in the thread.

I have been clear that 11m is the increase in population. 8m is the net migration. You are the one who seems confused.

I don't really understand what type conspiracy theorist isn't happy to use the ONS data.

how else should I describe the situation?

Again, I have acknowledge that is wrong, the like for like number of immigrants that have to the UK is 16m - gross migration. Refer to my post of 10.26. Alternatively go the ONS website and check the numbers yourself.

The estimates range between 6m and even higher than my calculation; and none of that takes into account people here ‘off the record’ or overstaying visas.

Yes I know. Have I disputed that? Im responding to you asking me to provide you with one singular correct number. My post already says there isn’t one. Then you asked me again. I’m not going to make one up like you did, sorry!

I mean, I don’t really care what the number is tbh. I just take issue with misinformation and random estimates presented as fact. It’s a dangerous place to play
