Am I the only one who does this?! Feel massively judged by my friends

Girly dinner this week - not the classiest of conversations but it was somehow brought up that I use the loo at work for all ‘eventualities’.

They were horrified and said it’s strictly wee only for them.

Am I really that unusual?!

I do all my poos at work. I save them up for the extra satisfaction of getting paid to curl one out.

My DM, on the other hand, can defer her bowel movements for 3 to 5 business days at a time if she considers the location inconvenient.

While I will use any toilet whenever I need to, I take measures to make sure it's not audible and I don't stink the place out. It's just being considerate. But this got me to thinking... why are so many women embarrassed by a natural bodily function that most men would never think to get hung up on? A lot if it boils down to societal expectations and sexism. We need to fight for equal poo rights, and fewer rude/ stupid remarks about our toilet habits at work. Who wants to join me in my campaign? #FreeThePoo

#freethepoo! 💪🏻

I never 'go' at work. To save embarrassment I go either in the local MacDonalds or if they are busy then in the small wooded area near my office. Just can't bring myself to do it near colleagues.

🤣🤣🤣

clipboardz · 03/10/2025 19:53

I appreciate you’re not enjoying my humour so apologies.

Where was the humour? 😆

Arrrrrrragghhh · 03/10/2025 19:55

Yuk. Hate a warm seat.
Also who can enjoy a poo at work?

Myblueclematis · 03/10/2025 20:02

I used to work in a very male dominated industry on night shifts, I always knew when one of them was "off for a sit down", it was sometimes announced when leaving the office and a newspaper often accompanied them.

They certainly never suffered from embarrassment at having a poo at work.

Best dumps I have are at work. How can you work well while pushing cloth?

Bonus points if you don't log off (pardon the pun). Paid to poop is the dream.

DH said his Dad always said this too. Do your poo 💩 in work hours, not in your own time. Make sure you're getting paid to do a 💩 🤣

SquirrelMadness · 03/10/2025 20:13

captainoctopus · 03/10/2025 18:59

I read on the loo too, or sometimes do a crossword.
And why hold it in and deprive yourself of the fun? https://www.verywellhealth.com/why-does-pooping-feel-good-8647425
Nb. Has anyone else noticed the overwhelming niff of vegan's poo?

Pretty sure meaty poo is going to smell worse than non meaty poo. Think about it, which smells worse - dog poo or hamster poo? I can't think of any herbivorous species with worse smelling poos than dogs and cats.

Also do you really notice whose poo has what smell and what their dietary habits are? Or do you live with a vegan? Generally I have no idea what the poos of my friends, colleagues and family smell like unless I live with them.

Hence my campaign, #FreeThePoo. I bet your colleagues (or somebody else's, in male-dominated industries up and down the country) also clapped each other on the back after a particularly impressive effort, and/ or kept a 'log' book (pardon the pun) of the longest, heaviest and/ or smelliest shits accomplished on company time.

I jest. But, this kind of thing is fine for men, while they (and many other women) tease and shame females who dare to take a dump at work. Everybody poos. Everybody smells sometimes. Why should we feel uncomfortable or unable to use a communal/ work toilet for its intended use, whenever the need arises?

Newsenmum · 03/10/2025 20:18

I don’t understand. If
I need to go I cant hold it in! People can?

Hohumdedum · 03/10/2025 20:18

I don't understand how these women can hold it. Even if I COULD hold it, I wouldn't want to. It's a toilet. It's literally there for poo, which everyone does. I've never given it a second thought. See also using a toilet brush for its intended purpose.

I think your friends are ridiculous.

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 03/10/2025 20:20

I think talking about it over a girly dinner is worse than doing it.

I need a poo after my second coffee, whether I'm at home or at work. Also, holding it is very very uncomfortable.

ContraversialDo · 03/10/2025 20:20

I never used to poo at work when I was younger but I grew up at some point in my thirties

Adelle79360 · 03/10/2025 20:20

CopperWhite · 03/10/2025 17:46

Most people can hold it for a few hours without a problem, but it really depends on individual workplaces as to whether people should be expected too or not IMO. Big airy spaces where everyone else has a choice of cubicles, fine, go if you need to. Small workplaces with only one or two toilets and no windows to cater for a lot of people, then if you can, hold it. It’s selfish to stink out spaces that other people are forced to use when you could just wait a while.

This!

We have a single toilet at work - when I go in and somebody has stunk it out it’s pretty vile. It’s sometimes been so bad I’ve had to walk straight back out, make sure I’ve left the door wide open so the smell gets out, and then I have to go back 15 mins or so later to actually do my wee. It’s really disruptive.

I do understand if you’ve got to go you’ve got to go, but in the entirety of my working life I’ve only ever pooed at work about twice, and once I can recall in a McDonald’s when I was out for the day. I can’t fathom how so many people would need so many poos at work.

nomas · 03/10/2025 20:21

I know a few people who refuse to poo at work or in (clean) public toilets. I don’t get it. Being able to poo is a sign of a healthy body, stopping it is unnatural.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 03/10/2025 20:21

I was on a night out with friends years ago and for some reason we spoke about pooing. I commented that I'd had a poo in toilets of the bar we were in and everyone else was horrified. Until then it hadn't crossed my mind to not poo in certain toilets. I will continue to poo when needed, no matter the location. My DC also are happy to poo wherever they happen to be.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 03/10/2025 20:21

I find it truly weird when people need a poo at work (or anywhere) and won’t go until they are at home. Saving poo for home is beyond odd.

Ginagogo · 03/10/2025 20:22

I find this sooo strange because I can’t hold a poo in all day! 🤣how do people wait till they get home

More like you're being selfish by expecting people to hold it in just so you don't have to deal with a smell.

There's actually things that can be sprayed in the toilet before you go anyway that will stop the smell, but if people don't have or know about them and they need to go they need to go.

If you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go…..

I agree

LBFseBrom · 03/10/2025 20:26

When you said "...all eventualities", I thought you meant something else entirely.

Of course you can have a poo at work, that's what the lavatory is for, for goodness sakes. Your friends are being ridiculous.

Most of us prefer doing it at home but if you need to go, you have to. That poo pouri spray is supposed to be good.

Hankunamatata · 03/10/2025 20:26

It's not really something you have control of.
I drink a lot of coffee
