Why is everyone such a wet lettuce?

Hand-wringing over badges. Upset over name origins. The list goes on and on.

Are people just bored and want some attention online or something?

It's my own fault for reading threads on here, and having other social media I guess!

OP posts:
Shellyash · 01/10/2025 18:09

Agreed. Although a bit back when someone was whining because she wanted a baked potato and her friend picked it first so she had to get something else, I commented on the ops "real life issues" and was crucified on here

menopausalfart · 01/10/2025 18:13

I get hugely depressed at the start of Winter. Maybe I need to just pull my socks up and get on with it like I've done for the last 40-odd years.

menopausalfart · 01/10/2025 18:14

I've come close to ending it all on several occasions. This wet lettuce is still hanging in there though.

User37482 · 01/10/2025 18:17

My favourites are the xmas fridge threads which degenerate into accusations of insensitivity and thoughtlessness.

VimtoIcePop · 01/10/2025 18:20

Preparing for winter? 😂 Try working outside for hours a day.

LizTruss · 01/10/2025 15:42

I AM NOT A LETTUCE - wet or dry! 😡

Indeed you’re not- you don’t last as long as a lettuce.

Oh, this. How to take a benign thread about people playing fridge Tetris and elevate it to puppy kicking outrage.

MrsPinkSky · 01/10/2025 18:32

YANBU OP, it's embarrassing.

And really not something you see much of on predominantly male websites.

@User37482, I love the Christmas fridge threads purely for the outrage and fun sponging! 🤣🤣

JHound · 01/10/2025 18:37

Who is upset over badges and name origins?!

Oh, you want to have a look at singletrackworld, it's where all wet lettuce menfolk go to dissolve in a puddle of their own self-pity.

Upstartled · 01/10/2025 15:34

You can't even wish for snow on here without someone carrying on like you are personally manifesting a conga line of broken hips and wrists at A&E.

I broke my wrist and hip falling over in my fucking kitchen, so that's put paid to that one! But yeah, all the whinge bags can mope off into the gloom together to wallow in mutual misery.

Yes but are they all shaking, crying and being too stunned and gobsmacked to simply communicate with people? 😳🤣

Uggbootsforever · 01/10/2025 18:42

And my personal ick, when somebody posts about something that clearly isn’t ok and ends with ‘…and that’s okay’

It clearly fucking isn’t if you’ve done a social media post about it complete with a sad selfie and foreboding orchestra music

Upstartled · 01/10/2025 18:43

😂 You have a point.

Notdanishsusan · 01/10/2025 15:24

I saw a video yesterday about how to get mentally prepared for winter. Splitting out the weeks into zones and what needs to be done in those to get through mentally.

Or you could….go about your life as usual with a coat and hat and turn the lights on earlier.

😂😂

Cabinqueen · 01/10/2025 18:46

Donostiera · 01/10/2025 15:31

Haha I've just read the bin thread...😆

Me too....😂🤣

But only because you mentioned it and I wanted to see how high the level of pettiness is.... She wins!!

MrsPinkSky · 01/10/2025 18:49

When I first joined MN about 14 years ago, one of the first threads I read was from a woman whose neighbour had been (probably mistakenly) using her bin for 4 months.

She wanted to know if she would be unreasonable to point out it was hers 🙄🤷‍♂️

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 01/10/2025 18:51

I see your Christmas fridge outrage and raise you designer handbag threads. “I want a good work bag, must fit a laptop, no more than £2k” If you see that, get a brew and some biscuits, set your bets if you will see “get a bag for life and a mini break” or “cotton tote and donate the rest to a foodbank” first.

Bonus points if the wet lettuces turn up to say they’d be too scared to use any bag that cost that much.

ShiftingSand · 01/10/2025 18:53

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/10/2025 17:53

I did have this thought when I read today about someone "panicking" about Christmas dinner.

😂😂 what would they have done during WW2 and rationing? These snowflakes wouldn’t have survived a day back then😂

StewkeyBlue · 01/10/2025 18:56

LaurelBush · 01/10/2025 16:00

And yet here you are.

Absolutely!

I do take breaks to answer the door though

ainsleysanob · 01/10/2025 18:59

Didimum · 01/10/2025 18:00

A friend of mine at work has this!

I stop functioning properly from about May to the middle of October. Barely anything but the basics gets done in my house during spring and summer because I simply can’t be arsed. I could cry with happiness that first day of the clocks changing in October when I drive home in the dark. However, mumsnet seem to think that it’s because I want to ‘put a lamp on’ or ‘get snuggled’.

The last refuge of a moaner is to moan about all the moaners.

😂😂

SpencerGarciaGideon · 01/10/2025 19:12

People I know don't want to talk to me IRL. Political, religious, parenting views differ ...whatever. Online I just see a post and thing " wtf!" Or " ooh someone new to tell about my shitty life" and comment. I largely get ignored on here too though 😂 it's all good. Some I do get bored with an just move on. Don't feel the need to be a CUNext Tuesday to people just because I don't agree with them.

BlueDressontheLine · 01/10/2025 19:25

Because they think they're special. I work in the NHS and we literally cannot employ anyone else with adjustments. We can barely keep the team going.

TheHateIsNotGood · 01/10/2025 19:27

Yep, too much angst over things ideological rather than face that everyday things are basically shit overall for many right now. Yet most still can find their little rainbows of pleasure, their reasons to live and the possibilities of a positive future amongst all the durst and strang they hear from the 'voices collectiv'.

Just like the green shoots that beckon spring and the birds that sing - better days are always ahead. The only function of wet lettuce is to chuck it in a stir fry for a bit of green.
