Botox & frozen faces

If you have Botox to the parts of your face that mean you’ve rendered yourself unable to move large part of your face or have very little movement in your eyebrows / around your eyes, does it not bother you that you essentially look frozen and expressionless?

At the end of the day, most of us, would like to reduce fine lines and wrinkles - we live in a world that holds women to ridiculous youth standards - basically we all feel we shouldn’t age and that an ageing face is the worst possible outcome. But at what cost does this come?

Watching almost all TV / films now means any woman over about 25, maybe 30 at a push essentially has a frozen face and quite literally can’t show emotions properly. Most men don’t do it, so it’s definitely a sexist standard.

Women saying they ‘do it for themselves’ - well okay, but only because you’ve been conditioned to find ageing abhorrent.

Why can’t we just be left the fuck alone, to age and have faces that move and show our expressions and feelings. Like we have for 1,000’s of years.

I'm heartily fed up of this trend of so many women looking like clones of each other.
Please bring back individuality and character.

cinnamonbunlover · 27/09/2025 20:02

I’m 45 and considering some treatments because I genuinely look rough as fuck and dour snd sour faced. I look back and cannot see the person I was 2 years ago. Aging happens so quickly!

I find the trend on 20 somethings a bit weird.

Agree, I’ve never had it but wouldn’t rule it out. It’s mad on young-young people but I’m 40 and consider it every now and then, purely because of a wrinkle by my eyebrow which makes me look as though I’m scowling/grumpy when I’m not!

“Your wrinkly ass”? How nice you are.

OP YANBU.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 27/09/2025 20:11

What women (and men) do to their faces is of no concern to you. Mind your own business.

Mycatissohandsome · 27/09/2025 20:14

I love having botox, at 48 it makes me look fresher. I don't go for the total frozen look though. To be fair though I couldn't give a rats ass what you thought of me. My body, my choice.

Mycatissohandsome · 27/09/2025 20:16

Errr I think the OP is the not nice one to be fair. What others do to their faces / body is not your concern - why feel the need to comment?

Lasm · 27/09/2025 20:16

48 and have been having twice yearly Botox for three years…trust me I look 48 but my face is fresher looking and no lines around my forehead or eyes! I’m not trying to not age, like I said trust me I look 48, but it certainly freshens up a tired visage ( speaking for myself)

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 27/09/2025 20:20

I get Botox and my face isn't 'frozen.' I can still move my eyebrows and make expressions, the forehead lines/elevens/crow's feet are just smoothed out. I love it, it makes such a huge difference to how fresh and rested I look.

Btw, most of these celebrity men also get Botox. And hair implants, and teeth whitening, and lots of other cosmetic procedures.

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/09/2025 20:25

The only person I know who has admitted to me they have Botox is a man and you can’t tell. Now lip filler…..well that’s something else.

StrawberryJangle · 27/09/2025 20:26

It's something I've never considered because any type of cosmetic procedure was always something reserved for 'rich' people.

I'm 50, and I don't have the 11 between my eyebrows that people talk of. I have straight wrinkles across my forehead, as if I've spent my life slightly bemused!

If I had the money, I'd have my Ian McShane (pre surgery) eyes done. I've suffered for years with blepharitis, both eyes, tops and bottom swelling, eye bags like a hound dog. Swollen shut. Awful.
Of course they'd get better and deflate... Baggy sagging since my early 30s. With treatments becoming more accessible, this is the one thing I'd treat myself too.

My granddaughter's Mum has had her lips done, eyebrows and gets botox. She's not even 25, she's beautiful any way. She breaks my heart. Her choice though.

Mydahliasareshit · 27/09/2025 20:38

There are degrees of botox you can have.
There are many places you can have it.
There is a vast difference between paying the money for a skilled medical professional using first class product, and a girl at the gym who qualified a month ago.
I'm in my 13th year of having it, twice a year, by the same person. I have never looked frozen.
At 55 my face and eyelids are still intact, for which I'm supremely grateful.

3pears · 27/09/2025 20:45

I have Botox. My practitioner is very skilled and is able to create a natural look with reduced wrinkles and still some movement. Some people prefer the frozen faced look. I don’t

Throwawayagain1234 · 27/09/2025 20:48

I can still raise a single sardonic eyebrow and have an expressive face. The people you notice having had 'work done' have had bad work done. The good stuff should never show.

Imbrocator · 27/09/2025 21:07

There is good evidence to show that Botox, by impairing your ability to mimic other people’s facial expressions and to produce your own, also has an impact on your ability to empathise with others and interpret other people’s facial expressions correctly.

Call me old fashioned, but the human face is most beautiful in motion and expression. Chasing youth is an inherently unattractive quality. If you’re happy, genuine and kind, people will find you more beautiful than someone who has perfect features but a face like a waxwork.

Girl, it sounds like you are talking out of your own “wrinkly ass”!

montston · 27/09/2025 21:09

I don't really get it. But whatever. Each to their own and all that. I’m unbothered by ageing, it’s normal.

Hilarious 😆

Glistening · 27/09/2025 21:14

I honestly don’t notice the frozen face thing! Even someone like nicole kidman who i know has had loads of work done - to me it still looks like she’s clearly making expressions? Anyone else feel like this?

Agree the normalization of cosmetic procedures isn’t great for women though.

Poonu · 27/09/2025 21:14

I find it hilarious that people think people can't tell they've had Botox -+ nothing fresh about it lol however it's 100% their right and.business..

EvieWonderSpaghettiHoops · 27/09/2025 21:16

YANBU OP

I find it odd when I’ve had a glass of wine or two and watch TV / Films with frozen face Botox actors. It’s like watching aliens 👽

Tbf the wrinkly ass is not on display (I hope!) whereas we all look at people's faces. The OP just said that she thought it sad to not discern expressions on botoxed faces and I agree; it's like a part of our humanity that goes missing.

This - exactly.

i look at photos and content from the 80-00’s and ther was a huge array of styles and looks, lots of different hair and make-up. People felt like individuals. Now it’s like all women aspire to have the same hair, same skin, same make-up. Like some sort of ‘identikit female’.

Must Have flawless skin, glossy long hair, large lips, small nose, huge eyes and eyelashes and defined eyebrows (either chunky or slimmer), and absolutely NO wrinkles or lines, no ‘imperfections’ which make you actually look interesting..

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 27/09/2025 21:20

I have nothing against people who want to do this to their face
What I am more worried about it that is being seen as normal and expected. Like shaving your armpit hair. Is optional but you are looked down on if you don't do it.
