Botox & frozen faces

If you have Botox to the parts of your face that mean you’ve rendered yourself unable to move large part of your face or have very little movement in your eyebrows / around your eyes, does it not bother you that you essentially look frozen and expressionless?

At the end of the day, most of us, would like to reduce fine lines and wrinkles - we live in a world that holds women to ridiculous youth standards - basically we all feel we shouldn’t age and that an ageing face is the worst possible outcome. But at what cost does this come?

Watching almost all TV / films now means any woman over about 25, maybe 30 at a push essentially has a frozen face and quite literally can’t show emotions properly. Most men don’t do it, so it’s definitely a sexist standard.

Women saying they ‘do it for themselves’ - well okay, but only because you’ve been conditioned to find ageing abhorrent.

Why can’t we just be left the fuck alone, to age and have faces that move and show our expressions and feelings. Like we have for 1,000’s of years.

Grown ass..

Wrinkly ass..

I beg to differ as the one parroting some half thought silly nonsense here with comments like that.

Plus I’m sure most people using Botox and tweakmente are all telling themselves a version of this🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh look it’s a Botox-bashing thread how novel.

By the same token OP, why can’t I be left the fuck alone, and not have these high horse threads every single week?

I love having botox, at 48 it makes me look fresher. I don't go for the total frozen look though. To be fair though I couldn't give a rats ass what you thought of me. My body, my choice.

Why do you need to look ‘fresher?’ - Or is that just a new word for younger? How do you look un-fresh?

No one is saying it’s not your face / your choice.. That’s obviously the case.

It’s about being conditioned to think that you look ‘un-fresh’ and therefore bad and need fixing.

48 and have been having twice yearly Botox for three years…trust me I look 48 but my face is fresher looking and no lines around my forehead or eyes! I’m not trying to not age, like I said trust me I look 48, but it certainly freshens up a tired visage ( speaking for myself)

Edited

But why can’t we have lines at 48 and that be okay? Why do we need to be freshened?

I think it would just be best to leave people to it.

These threads feel like they are made to belittle ladies that choose to Botox. The comments are so derogatory and belittling towards them.

What difference does it make to anybody else how they choose to present themselves?

MessyNDepressy · 27/09/2025 21:33

The frozen look is a choice. I got Botox for the first time a few months ago and the practitioner discussed if I wanted a frozen or more natural look first. I went for a more natural look which won’t last as long and hasn’t eliminated every tiny line, just a few deeper ones. I don’t think it’s noticeable as my mum would’ve loved to call me out if it was but it doesn’t bother me if it is. I wish I could’ve just accepted my forehead lines but I couldn’t!

Gatekeeper · 27/09/2025 21:36

I never know what women mean when they say botox makes them look "fresher"...to me fresher means looking all glowy after a brisk walk...esp if its a bit nippy.

arcticpandas · 27/09/2025 21:18

Tbf the wrinkly ass is not on display (I hope!) whereas we all look at people's faces. The OP just said that she thought it sad to not discern expressions on botoxed faces and I agree; it's like a part of our humanity that goes missing.

You’ve articulated my point much better than I did, thank you.

People do leave you alone. You’re literally the one writing a post on here about other people’s faces!? Nobody is forcing you to have anything done, same you shouldn’t judge anyone who has.

Peachandpassionfruit · 27/09/2025 21:41

I think it’s sad that so many women are so terrified of ageing. That they truly believe the marketing that the worst thing that can happen to a woman is to look their age.

Ooooh look, another women bashing thread started and continued by women. How refreshing.
I hate all the “o look at me, being all superior with my botox free/ make up free/ anything else free face”. So fucking what? Have botox, don’t have botox, have fillers, don’t have fillers, wear make up, don’t wear make up. It doesn’t matter and no explanation is needed for any of those
choices. If women used the energy they use to belittle each other to support each other instead, the world would be a whole different place.

As a side note, I do botox, fillers, make up, acrylic nails and any other treatment I fancy as and when I want and see fit. It doesn’t make me a Barbie-like puppet thoughtlessly fulfilling misogynistic fantasies and nobody needs to feel sorry for me.

Inserting yourself into the comments when you want to be left alone is a little odd.

I’m not ‘bashing anything beyond the youth standards and conditioning women are held to. If you don’t think that’s a thing…

‘basically we all feel we shouldn’t age and that an ageing face is the worst possible outcome.’

Nope, I don’t feel that way and would far rather have wrinkles than Botox. I don’t actually know anyone who does feel that way. Most friends are more interested in good skincare products and makeup. I’m 55.

An ageing face can be very beautiful. I don’t want to look 30, I have been 30. I am very happy to look 55, wrinkles and all.

Quite. It’s insidious.

At what age are we allowed to actually look old and it’s okay?

Everyone who chooses Botox has made this choice for themselves..their reasons are nobody’s business but their own. A general sweeping statement of all of these women have been conditioned to get Botox is demeaning..no, these women have made this decision to do this. You might not understand it and that’s ok because it’s none of your concern.

ParisFrance · 27/09/2025 21:51

Each to their own OP. You’ve made it clear that you’re not interested in Botox but so what if others are?

Reachedtheend · 27/09/2025 21:55

Jackiepumpkinhead · 27/09/2025 20:11

What women (and men) do to their faces is of no concern to you. Mind your own business.

OP is entitled to her opinion.

It's funny that as soon as anyone expresses concern about the trend for women to have botox those that use it get really unpleasant and actually down right nasty.

The pressure placed on women by society to look young and not commit the sin of aging is of concern to all women.
And those of us that want to preserve our individuality and not cave into societal pressure have a right to express our views.

Right, okay, so you want to paint anyone with a differing opinion on youth standards as a woman basher? How ridiculous.

OP posts:
Expressionless · 27/09/2025 22:06

The strangely aggressive defensiveness from those who’ve had Botox is quite depressing really. Especially those posters trying to insinuate this is bashing women!

This is about women not accepting the youth and beauty standards being marketed to them. Or feeling under pressure to inject their faces with a poison to look fresher or (insert youthful sounding word).

Do we get better treatment from others or have a better life if we look fresher? Probably.

Normalising frozen or semi-frozen faces is such a weird thing for humanity.

I’m not terrified of it 🙄

I just kinda prefer not to, and it’s perfectly possible for me not to.

PsychoHotSauce · 27/09/2025 22:10

I saw a silly video on FB and the woman (mid 20s maybe) was laughing so hard she could barely breathe... But her face didn't move. I just thought it was such a shame and she was so young. Don't get me wrong, I've considered it and may still one day but people are starting younger and younger. It makes me feel like it's just expected now, which then makes me feel even worse about my wrinkles 😂

Because then nobody could stealth-brag about how ageing 'naturally' isn't a problem for them because they're so happy and confident in their own skin ☺️

Ever? Will you be pushing 80 with a frozen, puffed up face?
