To be explicitly clear, if immigration was not one of the most important issues in British politic right now I am not sure it'd be on my radar in any significant way.
The reason immigration is massively important to me is primarily because I do not want a racist and literal fascist government, nor do I want an NHS-ending, corrupt, grifting, semi-racist, semi-fascist Reform government. Given what people think as a whole, the only way of avoiding what I do not want is for Labour, starting today, to really get on top of the issue in a way that many of their members will not like.
A quick google and I found a recent yougov link that said "45% of Britons say they would support an immigration scenario whereby no more new migrants were admitted, and large numbers of recent migrants were required to leave"
This ties in with other things I have read that suggest 70% of the population think immigration is a big issue (ie at the very least they would like less immigration and much less "bad immigration" (jihadists, criminals etc).
The issue is not going away. It will be tackled, the questions are which party tackles it, how competently they tackle it, how much cruelty and racism is part of tackling it and whether the party tackling it is selling the NHS to the USA at the same time?
