Posting here for traffic
DD has dropped her iPad behind a radiator

If it’s truly stuck you need a plumber to take the radiator off and put it back again.

whatdoidonowffs · 26/09/2025 22:00

Can you gently lift the radiator off the bracket ?
make sure the pipes move first

Devilsmommy · 26/09/2025 22:01

Surely there's a way to unscrew it from the wall? It got put there so can be moved🤔 probably a complete ball ache but better than wasting the cost of an iPad🤷

Helena2000 · 26/09/2025 22:01

Oh no, this must be really annoying you.
It would me.
Ummm......get a long flat instrument such as a spatula and push it up underneath the iPad then get a small child's hand to reach down and pull it up?

Pyjamatimenow · 26/09/2025 22:01

Does it not slide off? Some of our radiators you can slide up. I actually hadn’t realised you could until we had something similar happen

TheGoodOnesAreAllGone · 26/09/2025 22:02

Our radiators can be lifted off the brackets. House is only 5 years old though so might be quite a modern thing

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 26/09/2025 22:02

Can you see / reach the bottom of the ipad?

If so, do you have a thin scarf you can fold in half, lower down the back of the rad, put the ipad in the fold, then pull the whole lot up again?

You might need to weight the scarf on the way down.

murasaki · 26/09/2025 22:02

Kitchen or barbecue tongs from above?

Evenstar · 26/09/2025 22:03

I managed to put a fish slice up from underneath when this happened to us and push the iPad up enough for someone else to pull it out at the top,

RockCrushesLizard · 26/09/2025 22:03

Bamboo canes, like you use in a garden, can be used to manoeuvre many things up from behind a radiator - I’ve done it for paperback books lots of times before I finally persuaded my eldest to stop balancing them on the radiator outside her room!

CharlieKirkRIP · 26/09/2025 22:03

Superglue on a felt pad attached to string and dangles down until it makes contact with the back of the iPad and then pull back up when the glue has dried?

GoodTimesNoodleSalad · 26/09/2025 22:03

Only way is up… a large book, a spatula, a flattened cardboard box, a piece of plywood?

TyneTeas · 26/09/2025 22:03

Can you push it up from underneath?

Kitchen or barbecue tongs from above?

This or two coat hangers either side, there has to be a simple solution.

murasaki · 26/09/2025 22:04

I've rescued socks before by straightening a metal coat hanger out and wiggling, that might work?

MauriceTheMussel · 26/09/2025 22:08

Fish slice and lube

everydaynoises · 26/09/2025 22:08

if you can’t fish it out and need to take the rad off, You can do this yourself - just watch a YouTube video about how to do it. Basically close both valves, loosen the connections between the rad and valve (one at a time) and drain the water into jugs / buckets using a bleed key. Lift the rad off the brackets, retrieve iPad, reverse what you did to take it off. You’ll need some adjustable spanner’s. Might need to repressurise your boiler afterwards. Rads can be heavy so you might need some help.

Floradon · 26/09/2025 22:10

Two coat hangers or a scarf or similar. Just try and get the bottom of the loop of the hanger or the scarf under the iPad and lift it up.

Tagyoureit · 26/09/2025 22:11

Do you have any wire hangers?

Untwist 2, create a hook with each and then hook both sides of the tablet and pull it up. One person on both hooks, one person to catch the tablet.

Or a long pokey stick to push it to the side of the radiator so it comes out the side.

Tagyoureit · 26/09/2025 22:13

Ooo the scarf is a good idea, drop one end down the back and shuffle the iPad along to the edge!

hidinginthebathroomagain · 26/09/2025 22:21

Lots of good suggestions here thank you.
cardboard/fish slice/scarf all going to be tried in the morning. It won’t go sideways as the bracket blocks it. The skirting is blocking it from coming down so it has to go back up.
I’d rather not remove the rad if possible so fingers crossed one of the suggestions would out.
thank you all

Switch off the radiator, so it doesn’t come
on and the heat damage the iPad.

Remove the radiator from the wall. Retrieve the iPad. Put it back on the wall.

If you can’t do that yourself, you’ll need a plumber.
